I Play this game on my commodore 64, and i can only get past first level, after i get past first level it goes to the blue screen part and stays there. Any Suggestions??
This game is why I got an Amiga. I wanted to play my friend's dragon's lair, but got this game instead. I knew the graphiics would be bad, but didn't realize the play would suck too!
The music was the best thing about this game, and the worst. It made me want to keep playing, even though I didn't have a fucking clue WHAT was going on.
I think my copy of this was glitched, I could never get past the last pit by the dragon even after having him torch it time after time. On the other side of my floppy disk was the Escape from Singe's Castle. At least I was able to beat that.
I remember spending many a summer day when I was a kid trying to beat this game. I don't think I was ever able to finally beat that knight at the end.
Thanks for posting. I had this game when I was about 13 for the C64. I never got past the part where you have to row a boat through the underground dungeon and I was always curious about how the rest of the game looked. Now I know.
I never made it past the second stage back in the days. Looking at the full thing in all its horrendous length, difficulty and patience-testing game-play makes me very proud of my decision to give up as soon as I did. I am SO glad I never paid for this piece of rubbish - piracy seemed to be the norm back than, at least for the C64...
I have tremendous respect for everyone who made it past stage 3 or 4 or so in ANY version of this game.
wow, thank you for posting this, still remember i was like 7 years old, i was never able to get passed that 1st level where the spider is, annoyingly hard game, this is the first time ever that I am able to see that there is something past that level!! 20+ years later!
This was one case where the graphics were so bad it was difficult to tell what you were doing and how you were supposed to get past the bad guys. I don't think I ever made it past the first hall level.
We had seriously high expectations for this game because of the arcade version, which had amazing cartoon graphics, if you remember. This didn't really fulfill that, but had amazing Rob Hubbard music, which more than made up for it :)
A walthrough from the c64 game of the Arcade conversation "Dragon's lair" I've cutted some scenes from the chessboard level to keep the 10 minutes limitation.
I hated this! I never actually got beyond the second screen (on ZX Spectrum). Tried to take it back to Menzies where I bought it but they wouldn't give me my money back.
I bought this game for about 99 cents at Sears on blowout. One thing I like about some of these 8-bit PC games is how each stage is it's own thing... lots of variety. This game actually wasn't very hard, just tedious memorization.
Yep memorization and a bitch and a half to figure out. But doable. I don't recall ever being able to save the game and I just got good at memorizing and finally completing this game at my friends house roughly about two decades ago :)
The graphics of Dragon's Lair and Space Ace were excellent. Too bad you don't see those around arcades anymore. Too much maintenance and such. Of course I don't know of many arcades that are left to be honest. By today's standards one game I actually enjoyed playing in an arcade years back was Fly High Japan. Pretty funny when you can't land the passenger jetliner :)
I think I actually (after a great many attempts) finished this game in my youth. Then again, the feeling of triumph I'm associating with it may be related to getting past that god accursedly annoying wind tunnel sequence.
One of the weirdest and surrealistic game ever made... It strange how far can imagination can brings you. The authors ot this games were under acid when they created it for sure.
Someone just watching this walkthrough without having played the game would have no idea how difficult this is. It has to be one of the most unforgiving games I've ever had.
Anyway, I'm glad I can finally dee all the levels now... thanks for posting it!
i remember it took ages to load the start screen where you see the castle through the woods, i loaded from tape and you could literally follow the screen being build pixel by pixel. It was also one of the most difficult c64 games so i never got to see the dragon, now more than 20 yrs later i finally did. Thanks for making up for my mistakes i owe you :-)
This game rocked so many socks. I didn't get to play the original arcade game until a while after owning the c64 version, but seriously.. this brings back so many great memories.
You know the original 64 joystick really was horrible, so we took our Odyssey 2 joysticks apart, and wired them into the 64, and this game rocked with them. (Every time the joystick broke, just bought another used Odyssey 2.)
man does this bring back memorys i used to play this game alot after i got home after school and i always played to i got to the dragon and then i would either die or win
I spent a lot time trying to clear that level with the "Giddy Goons," so I had to give up. It's nice to finally see the ending, even if it is twenty years later. Thanks for posting this.
cool! thanks man. I would to hear the running tunnel music if you ever get a chance to capture that scene. I still remember the song - i was mesmerized by it because it sounded like my c64 was singing "la la la" (voice reproduction).

This brought me back! I saw the dragon once, and got killed because of my crappy one button controller. And that was a feat to get that far with that thing. Ahh the good old days of gaming when pure memory and trial and error was the only way to beat a game.
Hey, wait a minute... this looks just like the version that came out for the Coleco ADAM Computer??!! So, I guess the question of the day is... who programmed this game??? this is too much!! I salute you my friend for bringing back my memories of C64...for mastering so many C64 games...but NOT for reminding me that I am getting MUCH older and LONG for the days of old ;) Great VIDS!!!
Holy shit I had this game as a kid and forgot all about it. I was obsessed with Dragon's Lair and this was like the only home version available at the time.
This was the first Dragon's Lair I played, and I could never get past the second screen, up, down, button, what? Could never figure it out, and haven't tried it again in years!
The next screen was just Dirk standing there and the music from the 3rd level was playing. And that was it...couldn't get out of the game or anything. Thanks for posting this.
This video brought back memories. I downloaded an illegal copy of this from a BBS and somewhere during the download, it crashed, so I only downloaded like a 1/4 of the game and talk about screwed up. The falling platform, the cloud would appear about 20 times before you could jump off. At times you could literally run on the air. When you jumped off the platform...you had to press up, right, up, right, up right, up, right to make it into the tunnel without falling off
I spent I countless hours trying to get past that garbled stuff (bushes?) on the Singe level. I could never get past it, thanks for showing it was possible.
:) Loved this game.... I dont think i ever passed the chessboard stage so i never saw got to see the ending.. Thanks for posting... after like, over 20 years i finally get to see it... Great work!
I Play this game on my commodore 64, and i can only get past first level, after i get past first level it goes to the blue screen part and stays there. Any Suggestions??
