  • Compared to the other video, the band seems to have enjoyed doing this - whereas in the other, they look bored to tears and full of angst.

  • Don't stand so close to Me...

(People confuse the two separate entities that way)...

  • one of the math teachers in my school is really hot. She shouldnt b allowed to b a teacher lol. Jk. but she is hot. I dont have her and i heard she sucks at teaching. But the looks make up for it xD

  • me and my friend use to be so inlove with one of the math teachers in the 7th grade we didnt have him but we always went to his class and played with him

  • Yes, I was in love with my Maths teacher in 7th grade, too! x) He was a substitute teacher, though, so he wasn't in my school for long... But he was so hot, I remember he had a leather jacket and that was such a turn on!

  • Just makes me think of Friends =D

  • my favorite part of this video?

when sting takes his shirt off and smiles.

  • ahhh! Zenyatta Mondata album..De doo doo de da da da (check spelling)..great music

  • Holy crap coco sumner looks just like her dad

  • The Police were not Punk right? What kind of genre of rock were they?

  • sorta various. pop rock, straightforward rock, reggae rock (their most revolutionary) and new wave.

  • I love how he is smoking in the school.

  • People, i can't belive you are talking about crap while listening to this. HAVE YOU EVEN LISTENED TO THE LYRICS?!

They are amazing. Bloody amazing. They are talking about two people who love eachother irrevocably and they can't have eachother without difficultys. All they wan't is to be with eachother but the law says no. If i were in there position and i loved him i would probably run away or tell people were to stick it..

Deffo my faveroute dome from them x

  • Your wrong. This song is about Sting being hit on while he was an English teacher. He was an English teacher at St. Paul's Middle School in Cramlington for two years before The Police.

  • Well, Sting denies that this song has anything to do with his stint as an English teacher, but it's still possible that it was the inspiration I guess.......

  • I agree. Maybe it's right and maybe it's wrong but i am not talking about sting. The song is still about what i said.

  • :) I think I was replying to ejamieson765 before. Sorry for the confusion.

  • whoa kinda like Romeo and Juliet! :P

  • i like this one LOL!

i have a secret crush on my Physics professor

    I like older guys LOL!

  • Sting is super hot in this!

  • People! Those of you hating on the Glee version and the people that like Glee are just ridiculous. It's doesn't make you cool to be a "non-conformist" and just because something is somewhat old it doesn't make that thing a classic. People like what they like and as long as what they like doesn't absolutely suck we should let them without critique. Be happy that young people are hearing about the older songs because of something new like Glee.

  • I agree with ya kkdkoolkat2. I, personally, am happy that new people are hearing about this song through Glee. I've never watched the program myself, but it's great that people were so interested in the song that they searched it up. :)

  • Why is Sting (I think) holding a carpet beater...? O__O

  • So that's what it is! I was wondering. Yeah, good question.

  • Haha, yeah, I've got one exactly like it at home, oddly.

  • That's a really good question, now I'm curious too, does anyone know why he's holding a carpet beater???

  • Thanks Universalmusic group for allowing me to view and enjoy this video free of charge !

  • I heard this song on GLEE !

  • These videos were meant to be fun and light hearted back in the days when people could still laugh at the little things.

I used to dig these videos when I was a kid. The police videos always made me smile.

  • this video would have been far better if it was just 4 minutes of static image, this song deserved better.

  • This video was done when music video was still being pioneered....back in the freaking dinosaur age of this genre. I can enjoy it now, I know I liked back in those days.

  • must have been a cheap video not at all like i thought it would be. like the song tho thanks to Glee

  • i dont like the video but i LOVE the song! :D

  • That teacher was fiiiiine looking...

  • i'm pretty sure that's sting

  • lawl?

  • this song is awesome it was also awesome on glee.

  • mmm since this look is in vogue mayb i culd get sum fashion tips from here:P

  • wtf why is sting wearing wings?

  • @dontstopbelievin99 it reminds me of Hansel in Zoolander.

  • xtc

  • Teachers rapeing underaged children. This is a modern day disaster that happens all the time.

  • @worseto

Terrible spelling and grammar. This is modern day disaster that is constantly happening.

  • this song is really good and i especially love the mash up of this song and the song, "young girl" that that tv show GLEE did. Yall should check it out its awesome.

  • What book is he talking about? Anyone know?

  • lolita

  • He's talking about Lolita by Vladmir Nabokov. It's about a middleaged man who falls in love with and has a sexual relationship with a 14 year old girl.

  • 12 year-old

  • This song could talk about me...

  • great song! sad artist! talkin 2 trees??? wtf!!!!!!

  • GAWD STING!

    such a hotttie <3

  • lolz

  • It's a shame they had to make a random dancing-around video for such a wonderfully narrative song.

  • @anonnye Its because this video was made in the begining stages of music videos in the 80's, when most people watched Rock videos while high on marijuana. Even the group Police know this;)

  • This song is my life. Well the teacher doesn't feel the same way, of course, but I can dream. Sting was fine as hell.

  • how hot... he was 29 at the time ;-]

  • one of the best songs of all time

  • Oooh, Sting was so hot!!!!

  • was? still is

  • Yeah, you are so right!!! :-)

  • si el fuera mi profe yo tb lo acosaria!!!

  • I heard about this song in the show glee which is a cool show btw

    i like this song =P

  • amazing show. i thought it would suck but then my friend made me watch it and now i'm addicted. i only looked for this song to see if it was as good as it was in the show

  • This has to be one of the greatest songs of the police

  • try one of the greatest songs of all time! :)

  • I think "I Can't Stand Losing You" is better, no?

  • Coming from a teacher towards a student that would be weird, but you're right..."Can't stand losing you" sounds better! lol :P

  • man sting is so hot,, look at those arms, those angel wings...

  • every police song is at the very least catchy, such a great band!

  • i love how no matter what the song is about its like this happy dance around song

  • One thing from this video I'll never understand is why Sting takes his shirt off. (I love his little smile afterwards.)

I'm not complaining or anything, I've just always wondered why.

  • cause he's Sting, dog.

  • Maybe... It was hot in the classroom???

  • me too!

  • Check out this great song I found by this guy Johnnie Panzani called "stay"...i really liked it :)

  • haha why does he have a caret beater?

  • If he didn't want her to stand so close he shouldn't take his shirt off so much...

  • Oh my gosh, they were just made of cool.

  • why did he take of his shirt???

  • cuz it's haawt. *drools*

  • Love the fact that Sting is wearing a t-shirt by The Beat

  • It's too bad because the 3 of them worked well together. Great band ... goofy video

  • soooo obvious that they hate each other

  • hahaha i remember this!

  • I used to think that this was, "loose dinosaur, close to me."

  • hahaha, Now that I see that I can totally hear it.

  • the funniest part was when stings started stripping lol

  • haha yeah... and i guess back in the day it was cool to jump around like that in music videos :D

  • it's just liek he's saying here look at me half naked then step the hell off lol!

  • este viedo es uno de los hit mas exitosos de sting....

  • this song would be PERFECT for my classmate but the lyric should go "young teacher, the subject, of school BOY fantasies"...

  • Comment removed

  • well if my teacher was Sting i think i would have an extremely hard time not standing close to him. i mean, lets be honest here. :)!

  • What's with the person smoking in the classroom and the teacher not giving a fuck? Lmao I always think its funny when I see this. Anyways good song 5 stars

  • bitches best not stand too close to me.

  • hahaha I found it from money for nothing by dire straits...

  • i totally found out this song from glee. both versions are great

  • me too x]

  • same "datduesux" me too

  • I think it's ironic that this song is most popular with older men (over 35-54) and younger girls (13-17). haha.

  • @MrInSpectre

That's because it's something they/we really identify with haha! Everyone tends to like that which they can relate to...

  • : )

  • o alright i dig. sweet tune tho huh

  • how can u be a huge police fan and not know this song?????

  • @psychicwhoosh

I'm completely amused by your comments and I feel there's something I need to add.

In twenty years, how many of the current music artists will still be popular? Think on that for a second. Think of how long musical artists last nowadays. Now think on how long artists from the 60s, 70s, and 80s have been popular. That tell you anything?

  • glee gets me interested to check on the original version~

i mean you cant deny that glee has some great voices, but knowing the original for gives you more appreciation~

  • and who else predicted that Will would end up singing this song in the episode? as soon as Rachel's crush started, i was like, well this is certainly a Don't Stand So Close To Me situation. and sure enough...

  • this song has been used a countless amount of times in television and movies, but i've never found it so hilarious as it was on Glee last week.

    such a classic.

  • Sting will always be a legend and a genius.

  • I know right poobaba2 because the chorus has more to it than the original song

  • i know poobaba2

  • So I was already a huge fan of Young Girl when it aired on Glee, but now I have to add this to my ipod too! I adore it. Glee is such a wonderful way to learn music hahah.

  • that is so true Glee introduced me to some great music...lol the show is actually pretty good

  • Lmao, this music video is so ghetto xD

    I love it ;D

  • UM.

    NO.

    NO.

    I DON'T THINK SO.

  • LOVE THESE GUYS.

  • the start is so ominous

  • this deserves lots of more views

  • 3 millions not enough for you

  • @bongstatus01 not really cause this song has been out for 3 years so i would at least expect like 7 million and i didnt know about this song till i heard it on glee

  • this song has actually been out for 29 years my friend

  • @bongstatus01 oh i kind of figured that it was a long time ago cause of the quality but it makes sense that its been out for so long people probably got over it and stopped listening to it and that why theres not much views

  • u probably heard many music and songs from this band that u dont even realize it and they still play it on the radio till today (last time i heard it was last night on Q1043)

  • @xcjaxx oh ok i think i have but all i got to say is that this band rocks

  • yup :)

  • it probably had a higher quality video with better audio that got more hits before google bought youtube and made made the poster of that video take it down. People didnt "get over" dont stand so close to me. For the people finding it because of Glee, congrats theres a lot of great music out there.. now go find it dont wait to be lead to it like sheep

  • yeah i know man, thats what drives me crazy its like everthing cool sadley became a fukin cartoon for mainstream kids!!

  • The glee version brought me to this! I LOVE IT!

  • Q1043 brought me to this!

  • this is much better than glee. tho glee is a good sho

  • sure.. its awesome! but these are the classics dude..

  • All the comments suggesting that the Glee version is better than the original gives me the sad realization of how American Idol-ized musical tastes are now becoming. Glee may be a great show, but come on...the rendition is meant to be a glee club take on the song and strips it entirely of its sense of tension and longing. I fear it won't be long until the entirety of popular music in the states will begin to resemble the soundtrack of High School Musical.

  • Welcome to Pop Culture circa 2007

  • It was actually a mash-up used in Glee. I can't remember the other song, but I thought they blended the two together quite well. There wasn't meant to be the building tension, it was message and confrontation... I wouldn't say the mash up is better than this song, but it wasn't crap, either.

  • the other song in the glee mash up was "young girl" by Gary Pucket and the Union gap

  • So it was...

  • I was never saying it was crap, especially since it is a version made for a show about a glee club. It is designed to have a bubble gum aesthetic , but for all those comments suggesting it was superior to the original gave me the sinking feeling that the tastes of popular American music have devolved to a standard not much higher than the musical arrangements found on your average karaoke machine.

  • WHOOOOOAAA

    i agree

  • agree 100% man. I Also love your youtube name!

  • The police, lo mejor de lo mejor!!!

  • stewart copeland looks sooo cute

  • Once a woman made a sniffing sound near me at the store, because I just came from working out at the gym. She asked what deodorant I used and I said "Right Guard regular sport stick, why?" She said "check out aisle 3 over there-they must have some brand stronger"

  • wat a bitch

  • ahahahaha that sucks!

Sorry, I'm laughing with you, not at you!

  • guitar solo fail lmao

  • This song on glee stay very good too...

  • lol i love these classic songs :D and @ladykitten88 , lol! samee :P but i'mma teenager right now, so i hope i don't get in an awkward stituation like that <_<

  • I'm pretty sure if Sting was my high school teacher...I'd attempt to be the teacher's pet as well. Though I'm also pretty sure I never went through the "omg my teacher's hot" stage of teenage years. -_-

  • I think I would sit in front of the classroom and stare all day O_O

  • uh...all the idiots who think the glee people aren't singing the songs.. they all sing them in a studio first obviously. its easier then doing it live and its supposed to be like dramatized obviously. (sighs)

  • my favorite song by the police :D haha it was good on glee too

  • Luv the old skool dancing lol.

  • wtf is Sting doing holding a rug beater?

  • This song is amazing.

I liked the Glee version, but I just like Sting's voice with this song a lot more.

  • Come on, who can top sting.

  • i looked this up right after i watched them sing it on glee xD

  • the recent episode when they use this song was the first episode of glee ive seen
