  • The 24" looks better than the 21,5" , but i will buy a 21,5" tomorrow :D

  • i love this video i cant wait to get one next week

  • I think the older ones look better , I don't know why but the black back of the 08 really draws me in, and I actually like the aluminum bezel .

  • Do the keys on the 21.5 inch get dirty and wear down fast?

  • I prefer the 24in for some reason lol

  • im still up in the air on macs i want one but i dont know im pc all the way and actually find windows 7 to work realy well

  • @toyota420xp you can get a windows software on the mac if you know enyone that knows how to do it

  • well.... my laptop just scored a very.... effortless score of 1078 on geekbench :/

  • Next week i'm getting the base 21.5 inch imac as replacement for my 2006 core2duo 2 ghz, i am pretty confident it will blow it away completely. kind of like when i went from an iphone 3g to a galaxy s2 but tht aside nice vid man! awesome screen indeed i can't wait ;DDDD

  • Nice.

  • I own the I max g22rq 551 with a z22o _pcur

  • @MademoiselleAda the bit under the monitor is too big on the 24". On the 21" it looks slick and doesnt stand out as much.

  • the 24" imac looks ugly compared to the 21"

  • Just thought I'd let you know that the difference between the GPU's has nothing to do with your results. Geekbench only tests the RAM and the CPU, if you want to see the true difference between the two iMacs run something like 3DMark or PhotoShop rendereing tasks.

  • I have a 5770 result on my iMac 21.5" i3 and 3490 on my imac 24" core 2 duo

  • does the 21.5 have hyperthreading ??

  • @theotherbull says so on the website, can u explain what hyperthreading is? i'm not exactly clear on that

  • @SylabikHipHop it adds to threads so it multi tasks better so if you were to open the task manager it would show 4 cores on a duel core

  • @theotherbull ahhh alright, does anybody know how well the entry level imac games? i have the 2009 macbook pro actually, 2,26 c2d with a 9400m 256 mb card, i can play cod at around 3/4 graphics and dead space 1 and 2 at almost full so im assuming this machine is gonna run these games a lot better despite the resolution increase right? (1280 by 800) on the macbook pro (1920 by 1080) on the imac

  • @theotherbull the i7 version of the 21.5" does have HT.

  • Dude i BEG YOU REPLY TO THIS :/

The new baseline imac has a geekbench score of about 5700 , while this new baseline macbook pro has 6471 ?!

Does that mean the macbook pro is FASTER ?!

in terms of gaming , and video editing , will the macbook pro benefit me better?

Because i was all set to get the imac but then i saw its geekbench score and now im really confused :/

    Help ?

  • @AwesomeTeeVee depends on what you're doing. If you're editing video i suggest the macbook pro. If you're gaming i suggest iMac

  • @amdemand BOTH !

  • @AwesomeTeeVee than get the imac 27 with a quad-core i7processor for fast multi-tasking and video editing, better graphics (2560-by-1440 resolution), THE BIGGER SCREEN FOR BETTER QUALITY, 2X THE STORAGE SPACE FOR VIDEOS AND DOCUMENTS...THATS MY RECOMANDATION unless you're going to move around with THE COMPUTER ;)

  • @amdemand crap :/

dude i got awesome grades , so my parents agreed to get it for me , but i cant ask for the expensive one haha :/ they will say no and tell me im a spoiled kid .....

Oh god i hate this :(

  • @AwesomeTeeVee what's your price range?

  • @amdemand i can only get the baseline models

    :/

    so basically 1199 dollars

  • @AwesomeTeeVee if you have someone who goes to school or like uni, then get them to enter in their details in the online store and youll get LOTS of discounts even on the upgrades (like RAM n stuff) i got my 27 inch like that...

  • Why is the imac 32 bit?

It's amazing and Apple makes it 32 bit WHY?

  • @tino730 i don't know why they call it 32 bit

i was wondering the same you know

but if you look in preferences you'll see most of the programs

    run in 64 bit

  • @rubenandpimslapping Haha I think he meant why did Apple downgrade the computer lol

  • @mtmatrix3 then i think i misunderstood him xd

  • That's shit I wanted a real speed test

  • umm.. i got 649 :( its a ppc mac mini

  • The 24 inch looks chubby .

    :P

  • i like the 21.5 inch iMac is smexxi! ;))

  • My old laptop still runs on celeron m I think. (I threw the sticker away)

  • @venombladepictures then go to computer properties.

  • ya, geek bench isn't actually free

  • @tallblondekid yeah it is

  • do 1080p youtube videos play smooth on the core i3 iMac?

i only ask because it was stuttering when i tried this in the apple store on saturday :(

  • @thestevedotcom, i think the 3.06 does have a little trouble, i have the 3.2 i3 21.5 1080p videoz run brilliantly, (after they've buffered ofcourse)

  • @dabadboyuzi i just got the 3.06 21.5" iMac and YouTube 1080p runs amazingly smooth (once again when they have fully buffered) :)

  • @thestevedotcom thats cuz of flash 10.1... i have the same problem with my 27 inch core 2 duo... so adobe better fix that!

  • Dave wants one haha

  • 2010 27" iMac i7 got 6796

  • in fairness dave that 08 imac specs are crap even by 08 standards.

  • @TheZeenew are you kidding? -.- even for today that standards that's really good

  • my 2006 white imac got 2700

  • I have the 27 inch imac it is HUGEEEEEEEEE :| you know how you never know what size something will be until you have it in your hands well lets just say my mouth stayed wide open the enitre time i unboxed the 27incher :|

  • Dude get a better camera. The videos hazy

  • my laptop got a decent 1550 :) happy with that

  • My computer got a respectable 4800

  • isn't the 21.5 inch iMac 64 bit ?

  • @zaraka2 OSX is a weird hybrid of 32 and 64bit

  • Hi Dave. Just to let you know, the benchmark you're using does not measure GPU performance. It measures only CPU and memory performance. A much better overall benchmark is Xbench which takes every major component of the system into consideration. The machine you're measuring can then be compared to a database of similar and previous machines dating back years. And it's entirely free. Hope this helps.

  • My August '07 20" 2.4 GHz iMac only gets around a 2400. Plus it likes to get too hot. Makes me want that i3 T__T

  • 2612 MAcBook Pro 13 2009

  • @ACMiLan1113 really my macbook pro 13 has 2gb ram 2.26ghz core 2 duo mid 2009 and it gets 3238

  • @iTalkApple96

Same here, I guess I'm straining it more...

  • My score is pretty good, ITS OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!

  • My score : 4296

    iMac 24 inch early 2009 : Core 2 duo E8435 @ 3.06 Ghz, 4 GB 1067 Mhz DDR3 RAM, Mac Os 10.6.4, ATI radeon HD 4850 (512MB), 1 TB HD

  • I don't remember my score exactly, but it was around 12000

  • Dave, good review !! the clock speed at 3.06 ghz is pretty high on the 21 inch, considering it's only the basic entry level iMac.That makes it compete well against competitiors in the same price range.Sure, you can get a pc much cheaper with the i3, but I'm sure the clock speed would be alot lower. It also explains why the benchmark is alot higher than the 24 inch iMac with the core 2 duo. Also, I love the black borders pushed to the edge on the 21 inch.It gives it a much more polished look.

  • my late 2009 macbook get 2863

  • o.o If I wanted a Mac I would go for the new one but I would rather have the older keyboard... I hate keyboards without a numpad.

  • @gmanprime500 I'm glad they still have the "old" keyboard option if you're buying a computer online. I need that numberpad!

  • @chrisman324 The Apple keyboards have a horrible feel. The keys are flat.

  • @RSProjectX I love that the keys are flat.

  • @braddudeguy The best keyboards are the ones with slightly tapered keys. In addition, the keyboard should slightly curve inward around the middle horizontally.

  • @RSProjectX Everyone has their own preference.

  • @gmanprime500 when you're customizing your mac online you can chose the old keyboard with number pad at not difference in cost

  • My 15" i7 MacBook Pro got a Geekbench score of 6731.

  • My budget custom build PC got 6035. It was about $850 including the monitor.

  • @Fathead2098 Sorry I ment to say not including the monitor. It was about $1000 total.

  • the 21 inch display has the 16:9 aspect ratio where as the old one has the 16:10

  • My iMac i7 Geekbench Score 8604.

  • Does the iMac come with Leopard or Snow Leopard?

  • @mkextremerTV Assuming you're asking about the i3, SL.

  • @Westsound191 About the 2.93GHz i7

  • @mkextremerTV SL for sure - as with any new mac from August last year. You will always get the newest version at the time of purchase if it is a new machine.

    Hope this helps.

  • @Westsound191 Thanks man :)

  • @mkextremerTV :-)

  • 5684 on my MacBook Pro i7 2010. Hmm..

  • @McgregorKLB thats really good!

  • @scottyboyy99 it is ?? Sadly the i7 of the MacBook does not have hyperthreading. BTW i put a 7200rpm hdd in it.. if it makes any difference to the 5400rpm disk in this benchmark test. Thanks for your comment.

  • Core 2 Duo and Core i3 architecture is very different. Core 2 Duo is dual core and thats it. Core i3 is a dual core that also has two virtual cores so it shows up as 4 cores. My HP dv6 laptop has the Core i3 and it indeed shows up as 4 processors in the device manager. My best friend has the Core 2 Duo on his HP laptop and it only shows up as two processors. Also some of the newer Core "i' series processors also turbo boost whereas the Core Duo series doesn't.

  • I thought Mac OS X was 64 bit?

  • @TJC450 It is.

  • @Westsound191 but it said on the thing it was 32 bit so which is it?

  • @TJC450 I don't know that much about it as I just use it for music, but as I understand it boots into 32 bit by default, but you can boot into 64 bit by holding down 6 & 4 when you turn the machine on.

  • @TJC450 @TJC450 I'm also guessing it's that way because apps are still being written in 32 bit. Just as older ppc macs shipped with OS X and OS 9 classic to give developers time to migrate to the newer OS. But that's about all I know.

  • @Westsound191 ok because I was looking on my imac and some of the apps like finder are in 64 bit.

  • @TJC450 Yeah, most apps are, but a few still aren't. Someone like MrBit10 would know a lot more about this than me tho, so might be worth asking him (or someone at the store / apple tech support). I kinda understand 16, 24, 32 bit + sampling frequencies such as 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96Khz when it comes to audio files, but not computing language :-)XD

  • @Westsound191 well thanks for the help :)

  • @TJC450 No problem :-)

  • Excellent, Dave! I will run this later today and stop back.

    Have a good weekend!

    Tim

  • my quad core(Q8200) hackintosh scored a 5752 on geekbench (64 bit)

  • Wtf? almost same specs on my

macbook!? 2.4 and your is 2.8 and the same ram.

  • Macbook Pro (2010 i7) - 5800 in 32 bit.

  • Hey Dave & everyone. I'm running a Macbook White Unibody October 2009 (2.26 c2d, 2gb ddr3, 250 hdd) GeekBench score... 3238. Does this seem right, or a little slow? Anyone with the same model, let me know, cheers guys (&gals) Rodge.

  • @Queeg500RD Yep that's right. I have a similar machine with similar score.

  • have you run a benchmark on your Macbook Pro? and does/will the result change over time or should it stay the same. Great video's mate really enjoy watching.

  • ive found the new imac to be slower on startup and have had major issues with the firewire port. prefer my old imac but maybe i just got a dud.

  • 3330 on a early 2010 macbook pro 13 inch. Wow, the imac certainly has more power

  • @themaskedguitarman yeah I've got pretty much the same result with my macbook pro. I've got the same macbook as you

  • the new one makes the 24 inch look so dated

  • I bought a 24"imac the next refresh to yours in 2008 and now have a imac 27"quadcore i7 it was the right time for me to get a more powerful one im seriously impressed with the new one.led backlit faster ram next gen processor, unibody also a new architecture inside its a very decent upgrade this time round which tempted me.

  • Personaly i wouldn't treat geekbench as a fair Benchmark.

and whats up with the core i3 imac having 0Mhz ram, fail

  • @m4kk393 I'd guess it's because the memory controller is on the CPU so it didn't find it in the north-bridge where they usually are pre "i" series, so it didn't detect it. It runs at 1333MHz I believe.

  • These synthetic benchmarks i always feel don't show real results, can you do some cinebench or unzipping a file and compare it? I love real life results which you will notice everyday.
