  • The greatest rock band that ever lived, bar none. Until The Who, everything was leaden blues work-outs. Pete Townshend got Charlie Parker, Mose Allison and everything else thereafter. Forget Zep, the Beatles, the Stones.....this band invented rock. And in Keith Moon, the ultimate rock drummer....he improvises like a jazz musician and plays like a Man United fan on the rampage in another town. This is how rock SHOULD like. An air-raid on the senses,

  • pretty loose playing. John is the only one who's not having any of it, the ox is holding the playing together.. Keith might be having a bad case of sobriety, but he still gets some incomparable whacks in. had to be nearly an athlete to play in this band. nice to see more of the show.

  • This is the 74' Charlton gig, one of two at the same venue that year, (the other show it rained solidly throughout), where they were recorded as the loudest rock n roll band in the world....... just for the record Pete later remarked in an interview that he 'couldn't remember either show as unfortunately I was very pissed!'

  • 0:34:09

  • Nice drums 14:33 to 14:40.

  • Don't know if it's the sound or what, but this isn't one of their better shows. Keith is all over the place and Roger surprisingly isn't in great form. the only who is is John. That's probably why it was never released as a full show - let alone blue-ray.

  • @stevedrums If this is one of their bad shows I would have still given my front teeth to be there.

  • @surfjabroni Oh I don't disagree with that at all!:)

  • How'd you ever get up a 62 minute video in 2008? lol.

  • I feel as though rogers not on top performance in this concert with his timing :/

  • Comment removed

  • This is crappy quality. Can't you upload one in higher res?

  • was this the Charlton show ?

  • @stewgotz1, yes it is. The year is 1974.

  • @stewgotz1

    I think so.

  • they are all great but i love how entwhistle just stands there like a brick wall while he rips on the bass.

  • Why isn't this on Blue Ray? WHY?

  • I mean NO disrespect to Kenny Jones because he was a great drummer in his own right, but The Who should have NEVER went on without Keith Moon!!! These four were without a doubt the greatest combination ever in rock history and after Moonies' death it was never the same. He died way too young! I watch these old classic concerts for hours on youtube. The were THE GREATEST!!!

  • @don62snodgrass Oh, for Christ's sake! Did it ever dawn on you that they might have continued as a band because they had to make a fucking living? It's called earning money so you can raise and give your kids the best life possible. If a member of a band you were in died, would you have quit and threw millions of dollars of future earnings down the drain? They were in their mid-thirties when he died. They couldn't afford to break-up, you ninny. Zeppelin could afford to break up, The Who couldn't

  • @tomthefunky Not with all those John`s debts! :-)

  • As a bass player, let me say that John rerwrote the instrument...and in the best wy possible. John and Keith made the bass and drums lead lines in rock and roll singlehandedly...

  • Somebody should really tell roger he's ripped his shirt :/

  • I don't think so. I have a vhs boot of this show. slightly worse quality that what you see here. a shame since this was a damn good set.

  • Does anybody know if this 1974 Who concert is available on DVD in North America?

  • Miss the Ox.

  • This version of magic bus is even better than Live at Leeds ! Just beautiful...

  • "Whether or not you are or not as immense." Lmao Pete is so fucked up. 20:50

  • Wasn't this show the biggest London concert ever attendance wise?

  • so did Pete end up selling the magic bus? that was quite a nasty argument he had with Roger over the price

  • CHARLETON FOOTBALL STADIUM

    The Who in fabulous form.

    I heard a rumor about a digital-video-disc release.

  • @BandOnTheRun1000 waddya' mean "PROBABLY". chuckle chuckle

  • Nice jacket John.

  • Awesome! This is magic and you are magic too.

I haven't even seen past substitute, but I already know it is going to be a great show. Substitute is a great song.

You rock, the Who rock, life rocks.

  • I would like to suck Pete Townshend off. :)

  • Bonham and Moon the best great drummers forever

  • @theredhulke

Yes but Moons` name comes first!

  • @oberfour1 no......alphabetically, Bonham's name comes before Moon. @theredhulke wins. muahahaha

  • @3billion8 Go Fuck yourself !your mother masturbates herself with child porn

  • @sonnno go die you scum

  • this is a great classic who performance.

  • 0:10:40 = keith losing his stick, YEAH! :D

  • whit the fuck is that gay cameraman doing dickhead

  • Dieu!!! (keith pour les intimes)

  • also, am i the only one who wishes the studio Baba O'Riley was recorded with Roger's harmonica?

  • @mothernaturecockbloc hmm. I`m not. I love the violin solo. And the extra reason the violin was Keith's idea, what is meaninful for me. Besides, the harmonica live versions are enough, at least for me.

  • @fontanalu Oh don't get me wrong, I love the violin solo as well. But it's like every time Roger picks up a harmonica a tune gets 5x more rockin'. Haha.

  • thanks for giving john his solo in substitute pete. /sarcasm.

also, thank you so much for this upload.

  • The full set list for the night (5/8/74) for those who are curious: 1)ICE 2)Summertime Blues 3)Young Man Blues 4)BOR 5)BBE 6)Substitute 8)I'm A Boy 9)Tattoo 10)Boris 11)Drowned 12)Bell Boy 13)Dr. Jimmy 14)WGFA 15)PW 16)See Me Feel Me 17)5.15 18)Magic Bus 19)MG 20)Naked Eye 21)Let's See Action 22)MG Blues

  • Thank you so much for posting, mstrsail. What a wonderful show!

  • The best performing Naked Eye of the all history The Who ( sorry for my English ), I'm from Poland ! Poland Love The Who :) but I love voice Pete :) He is the best guitarist in the world :)

    Peace from Poland :)

  • lol seems like Pete and Moon were messing with Roger for most of "Young Man Blues", (duringthe parts where Roger sings)

  • Oooh, Roger is pissed at 27:20 - During the song, his mic has some kind of malfunction and Pete goes over and tells him to use his (Pete's) mic, so he grabs Pete's mic on the stand and then SLAMS his lead mic to the floor - TASTY!!!!

  • sometimes i think pete plays better when drunk, i especially like his solo in young man blues

  • Wow. You can cut the tension with a knife between Roger and Pete during See me feel me and Magic Bus....but it appears they made up during My Generation.

  • @CanaKahuna --In See Me, don't think it was tension so much as Roger's mic malfunction. He was pissed as any good rock star should be with malfunctioning equipment on this stratospheric level. The crew shoulda gotten him that replacement as soon as he signaled. (He kept looking back, asking for aid, and it came in the form of Pete telling him to use his mic instead.)

  • There seems to be a big power struggle being played out between Pete and Roger during Magic Bus! At 32:00, Roger appears to step on Pete's lick a bit as he starts verse 2. At 32:11, Pete gives Roger a look as if to say, "Don't do that again, you wanker!". At 32:34, Roger does it again, and Pete is obviously frustrated, as he momentarily drops his hand from the fretboard. There is some real anger in Pete's voice, as he shouts "You can't have it!!" a little later.

  • @smautomat I disagree with you. For me it looks (clearly) that at 32:00 and at 32:11 Roger is having some sound problems and at 32:34, Pete tried to do a guitar line but Roger began the verse before he continued (By the way, Pete failed to complete on the right musical time and "wanted another chance" and Roger decided to continue playing on the right way).

  • Damn YouTube for fucking up the quality...

  • luv the fucking whoooo!!!!

  • This version of My Generation is just EPIC!!

  • where did u get this footage?

  • Thanks - I got to see a live version of "Tattoo!"

  • Love Roger's nosy emotion in:

    BELL BOY

    SEE ME FEEL ME

    NAKED EYE

  • 59:25

  • Can't believe it now but I was there. One of the first of many gigs I went to during my youth and feels like yesterday. Were they the best rock band of all time?

  • There is none higher ....

  • boobies

  • greatest live band ever

  • lol 'you do mine and I'll do yours'

  • he said that cause roger daltrey sung the part that Pete's suppose to sing

  • This is from the famous Charlton concert. Great footage of this on the Box Set from 1995.

  • on my computer its bad quality

  • ssimply CLASS A+

    thanks

    *****

  • This is awesome! :)

  • Awesome! Where did you get all this footage of Charlton?

    Andy

  • YES

  • The Who Is RocKKKKKKKKK!!!

  • so well put

  • do you think you could put up the kids are alright(the movie from 1979) its nowhere on youtube

  • fuckin pete ahahha

  • lol My generation meets the vamp from Sesame Street

  • Roger laughed when Pete said "You did mine, I'll do yours!" lol

  • Charlton!

  • I am totally rocking this morning...thanks for posting dude!! I dig Roger in his tight pants...LOL

  • John and Keith are the best combo in all of rock .

  • @BB714NYC word up!

  • keith moon = drum god

  • @dbratboy92 You could quite easily leave the word 'drum' off and just use the word 'God'.

  • LOL, Roger "stole" Pete's part on "I'm A Boy", so Pete stole his part. xD

  • Am I seeing things ?

    An hour long video ?

How did you do that ?

I thought 10 minutes was the max.

  • I believe it's because mstrsail is a Director (see the channel). I've noticed Directors are the only ones with vids longer than 10 mins. Either way, thanks for the great concert vid, mstrsail!

  • Naked Eye at 49:00 or so!

  • that is that song

  • LOOK AT THOES DRUMS lol!

  • omg an 1 hour video on youtube o.O

surely took long to upload it

    well some good memories ^^

  • That has got to be the best jacket John Entwistle ever wore on stage, better even than the skeleton suit from the Isle of Wight.

  • Any band can be happy with a bass player like John E. He simply nails all the songs and keeps everything under control while the others all have their little mess ups, well Roger actually delivers his parts pretty clean

  • Pete's guitar sound is IMO the typical 70's sound.

Only mids and highs, no bass (what for if ya have the Ox)

  • 5:30, Keith starting to destruct his drums already

  • ha, 6:00

    "i'll show ya"

  • From 46:20 to 50:00 you can tell pete is coked up or drunk or ???. And he is still kick ass!!!!

  • Pete's playin' his arse off on young man blues

  • Los màs grandes del rock, sin duda...

  • Seemss the Who are culling their live archives for possible release. I just bought Live at Kilburn in 1977 with the bonus show of the Who performing Tommy in complete form for the second time. This 1974 show seems to be crying out for this treatment. The sound is good, multiple camara angles etc. Hopefully sometime in the future we will be able to get this show in HD and 5.1 sound. It seems a logical choice for such a release.

  • how'd u get this video to be so long? i have a 10 min limit

  • some people have been lucky and have some sort of a elite registration, were they can upload stuff with over an hour. correct?

  • personally don't care how they got here--- I cn't get them ay other way where I am--- and I like the live concert atmosphere

  • Pete does look a little wasted. I'd have a few shots if I knew I had to perform in front of 60,000 people too probably!!

  • witty....lol

  • wow. i'm not even gonna respond to that.

  • haha u just did i rony

  • what i meant was not rip his head off.

  • @willwoodward99 non sai neanche di chi parli. Sei un poraccio.

  • Respect!

  • Great! Whole concert! Thanks for posting! This is a awsome verson of drowned! I agree with foreverWhofan totally!

  • is this really all of the concert or is it edited

  • edited. a couple songs there is only audio available (dr. jimmy, wont get fooled again.) and then there is 5:15 and Can't explain which recorded really crappilly so they didn't let them surface. 5:15 has anyway, but can't explain is only available through audience bootleg. theres a couple others missing too. i think boris the spider and pinball wizard. as far as i know, thats all
