  • the violin is amazing

  • I don't usually like contraltos, but her timbre is great.Very tasteful

  • extraordinary masterpiece, Bach one of the 2 giant from the baroque , the other ,well of course Haendel

  • GREAT piece of musical no body is respecting clasic music today they must be ashamed of there selves beacause they dont know real talent is only Alyas Hanna he genge music by Renew clasic.

  • Conducting, playing piano, clavicembalo, organ, violin! What can't maestro Richter do?

  • @vanya2309

The violinist may look a lot like Richter in this grainy video (especially since they both have the same haircuts), but he's not Richter. You can see Richter conducting in the background while the violinist is playing at the 1:56 mark.

  • I love how people start arguments on youtube comments, especially on music. Sacred music nonetheless haha. But beautiful performance, I am trying to watch all of these movements, and so far have not been disappointed :)

  • Sorry, but it's not Gundula Janowitz who sings this aria. One can see her at the beginning and the end sitting down in a blue dress. The aria is sung by a mezzo or contralto with a voice quite unlike Janowitz' high and instrumental soprano.

  • It's Hertha Töpper (born April 19, 1924, in Graz, Austria) . "Her operatic repertoire included many roles by Wagner, Verdi, and Strauss. As a concert artist, she was particularly noted for her performances of music by Bach. Together with Marga Höffgen, Hertha Töpper was one of the leading contralto singers of Bachs vocal works during the 1950s and the 1960s, and she recorded many of them, mainly with Karl Richter and Fritz Werner." (Sic: the 'Bach Cantatas' website.)

  • Thank you very much! Of course I remember Hertha Töpper, a very fine singer, though perhaps she would sound even better in the true contralto arias than in this florid mezzo aria, for which she seems a shade too heavy.

  • The Blomstedt entire Mass is now on YouTube. Something for comparison.

  • Is she blind?

  • She helds the score in her hands .....

  • Do you have a substantive point, or are you a despicable moron as well? BTW, Moron -- it's "she holds the score in her hands."

  • It was an ironic com on "is she blind" - anyway. You proved to be well educated but for the next time you better watch your words, especially those with a m in the beginning. Youtube in general is primitive enough, the classical music part is one of the few sections where there´s at least a little bit of better standard - but you seem to be unsatisfied by that.

  • No. Are you a moron?

  • inselberg1 are you an uneducated americunt?

  • I realized that you`re an american before checking you`re profile

  • ``No. Are you a moron?`` What a comic insult

  • ke monito¡¡ muy bonito

  • This is Töeper, not Janowitz!!!

  • I'm not a fan of the old way of performing baroque music but the soloist is wonderful.

  • please enlighten me about the difference between baroque music and classical baroque music... I always thought classical musical was originally used for the music of haydn, mozart and beethoven and that music of the baroque was baroque music...

  • Then what !? Stravinsky`s music is modern music ?

I always thought that modern music is backstreet boys West life operaticxingenue sead that his not a fan of the old way of performing baroque music. Whel his prob. a fan of period instruments but I hate period instruments and classical baroque its not the only music that it`s playd with period instruments

Search: Beethoven Frans Bruggen.. it`s stupid

  • too much bloody vibrato

  • Natürlich ist das NICHT Gundula Janowitz...

  • it's sooo baroque! Her eye charmed me as well as her voice! Looking at the way she dressed, I wonder in what year this is recorded...

  • this is a very nice sound and i agree with you...i believe this is some time in the sixties judging by the hair styles...but she is very classy looking and i admire her beauty and talent.

  • Lol, stop posting nonsense responses, read the tag of the video. It says "Soprano: Janowitz". Do you think the solist (Hertha Toepper) sound like a soprano? Wash your ears.

Sorry, the soprano is actually Gundula Janowitz. She is the lady in blue, and she sits behind the violin as Gabriel13187 already told. She doesn't sing in this part, but if you try harder you can hear her in Agnus Dei by JS Bach for example.

  • Merci de nous donner cette genie de la chanson chorale classique. C'est de la genie. Merci, thanks a lot, dank, garcias, tsétsé

  • Janowitz sits behind the violin...

  • No, it is not Janowitz. It is Hertha Töpper!

  • Sorry, but this is not Janowitz
