hey havent you got anything better else to 7notemode, i just come to check a couple of things out and find you again here . Dam you , you make me late for work just cant stop listening, , lol :)
@fabiosena72 Thanks, There is a little of how to improvise in my How to Swing videos.. Learn to vocalize improvisations from recordings by the Greats of Jazz.
I think that you have looked the DVD Concert live in Lugano with Hancock, Carter and Cobham. Ther he plays Dolphin Dance solo and I hear some of those influences in your play. Is that true?
Thanks, cardangel16. You made my day! There could be no better teacher than LT. The depth and emotional resonance of his vocal delivery is in a league of it's own. Please say thanks and hello for me from his hometown of Chapel Hill, well close anyway)
I really enjoyed this. It was interesting what you said in the more info section. I would love to discuss music with you. I play guitar, but this type of harmony is very interesting to me. As a guitarist, dense and extended chords are nearly impossible. I can see how using parts of an extended chord open up more areas for those two or three notes to go.
is all necessary to memorize all these chordds and scales?
soprry for the awakward quesiton but im thinking of going into jazz and my music teacher told me to memorize and practise all that , is there anyother way?
xNoirex, Chord progressions and scales should be understood rather than just committed to memory. If you familiarize yourself with the relationships of the the chords to each other in a tune, it allows you to play the tune in different keys without as much difficulty.
Completely and utterly OUTSTANDING! " "Scuse me boys, you'll have to run along now, we gots us a Genius At Work!" Expertly done, I am so impressed. Stuff like this makes a normal joe realize the potential of musicianship that can come out of a human being. Nothing short of inspiring. Thank you 7notemode for playing the piano keys like they were 'Dreamcicles!' Unearthly, Mister!
Great version of this tune. I really like your inclusion of higher extensions than what is explicitly called for in the tune (or at least in the fakebook verison) mixed with more conventional lower chord tones in the voicings. I especially like your right hand voicings around the 4:00 mark, with most of the notes ocurring in a 2 octave span or less. I will be watching this video more as I work on this tune myself. Bravo!
When I used to attend the, almost now totally extinct, piano bars here in Toronto there was one special tune that I would always request. It was happily accepted by the soloist. A kind of an insider's tune. "When Sunny Gets Blue" I would love to hear your rendition of the old but rare classic jazz piece.
interesting how one person says it's like Bill Evans, another says they hear George Shearing, another says Art Tatum...to me it sounds influenced by Oscar Peterson, at least in the intro.
Extremely Good! I'm a professional piano player myself and have toured for years on cruise ships...and you get to thinking you're pretty good then you see something truly a step above where you're at.
I've been listening to your music for the past..I'd say..hour and a half. I love it, the technique and cleanliness is amazing. All the chords and everything fit so well together. Jazz theory is an amazing thing to know (it's one thing I wish I had time to learn right now).
Wonderful playing. I come from a classic background. I was wondering if you could give me some tips for starting to play this variety of music. I have picked out a book from Mark Levine.
Do you have any transcriptions of your performances?
You said your teacher just told you that you should listen to other jazz pianists and learn to improvise using some of their techniques, and then create your own style from what you've learnt; would you recommend that? I've played classical for 8 years, and I've got an accurate and sound technique, so would you recommend simply listening to some jazz first and THEN going back to my teacher to start getting help on refining my style?
your too cool for school my man! I hope to one day play Jazz as well as you if I could this is pretty tough stuff! props to you and am now sucribing! 5+
Nice job on a great tune by one of my all-time favorites (Herbie). Great touch, light and easy but forceful when you want to. Those dissonant chords are great. I agree with volvoxburger on your left hand.
nice...get some bass and drums and you'd be a great trio. i think your comping really lends itself to working with a bass player. look forward to more stuff from you!
