I wonder why a lot of these ballets have the namesake "king and queen" seated on their thrones watching from a distance. Does it lend to the ambience; I wonder?
@sairamnagarajan because the scene is usually in a grand ballroom in the castle and the story is about a princess :) They have a grand entrance along with all of the other guests in the beginning of the act or scene, they're not just "there" they still have a purpose. Plus yes it does add to the ambiance because they (should) react to their daughter's glances and gestures along with the crowd because you must always bow to them when you walk around the stage.

What a treat to see Visheneva and Bolle dance together! They are wonderful! And I like the set and costumes in this production a lot.
