@aselasanjeewab The biggest problem for the movie Hostel was that it WAS NOT filmed in Slovakia, but in the Czech Republic!!! Both countries are beautiful and very friendly. The movie did a disservice to Slovakia and the people there were upset when it was released.
@aselasanjeewab yes, it is sad. When they go into the village, the name on the sign is the name of the Czech village!!!! :o) But no one would know that. I don't know why they said it was Slovakia.
I am sorry that I never got your message until now. If you haven't gone yet, the NE part of Slovakia is very wonderful with the High Tatra Mountains, historical wooden churches, Poprad with its old section, ice caves, and kezmarok with its churches and castle. Many things to see. AND EAT AND DRINK. The people are so friendly!!!
Yes, people are very friendly and cheerful. I was especially lucky that I had found relatives that were missing from us for 100 years. Some were still in the village of my grandfather! Others were young women who spoke very good English and helped us every where. We were spoiled, I guess.
You can still communicate with some sign language, a few shots of vodka, some laughs, and patience. :o) I'm glad you enjoyed it. It sounds like you saw a lot.

I have been to Slovakia.
Been to the biggest Ice Cave - it's amazing.
Visited Poprad, which is an interesting city.
I took a cable ride to the peek of the Tatra mountains. the view was great.
Ive seen some churches, one of them was beautifully decorated with a big wooden structure.
I haven't been to kezmarok, but I hope to come back sometime and see it.
People were very friendly, although people don't know english. Only the workers who serve tourists talked to us, and other tourists.
