No one is mentioning the elephant in the room which is NAFTA. In the 30 yrs prior to NAFTA, the poverty rate in Mexico hovered around 30%. That's not good but, it was steady. In the 10 yrs following NAFTA, the poverty rate doubled to almost 70%!!! NAFTA almost destroyed agriculture in Mexico and the factories that were supposed to move there ended up moving right on thru to China. So, loss of agriculture added with a nonrealization of industrial jobs led to the wave of immigrants we have today.
