This is probably the most genuine New Year's Concert of all time. A dynamic Herbert von Karajan at the dawn of his life, an entire concert exclusively dedicated to works of the Strauß family and no fooling around with Kathleen Battle's fantastic performance of Voices of Spring as the icing. Most unfortunately, neither the official CD nor VHS/LD/DVD contain Karajan's memorable speech before the Blue Danube Waltz, probably because the sound problems with the small portable microphone.
