I think it's not the military leaders or commanders, it's the political leaders who send young man directly into war for the most silly things like a bit of ground, gold or oil. Or just a centuries old misunderstanding between two nations. Nevertheless, the far most wars are not politically but religious of nature. Mankind seems keen to kill someone who belive in something else. Humans are not intelligent, there are intelligent humans, but that something different.
