That was a veyr good Scotland team. Looking over that line-up, every one of those players was a good footballer, with good technical ability and skill. The old problem with Scotland - they don't score enough goals.

Willie Ormond was a great Scotland manager and legendary player. He should have taken Scotland to Argentina 78 but got shamefully screwed over the SFA in 77.

@dcanmore We can get a better team back.If we ever become Independent.We could spend more on the game at grass roots level.We could build the in door centres we need in the winter,that we have cried out for years for.Nations such as Lithuania have better facilities than us.And football is not even there national sport there.At lest the SFA has got round the table,at re vamped the institution.And with any luck it will bear fruit.Given a few years with the new implements in place.Its not all bad.

@dcanmore I'm brazilian and honestly its impressing to see that scottish team. Its totally diferent from the squad that we faced recently in London. Your football was very good. What happened? This player Billy Bremmer is outstanding. He became quite famous here in Brazil by his great display in that match and by almost fighting Rivelino :-)

@invino334 billy bremner died of heart attack in1997 aged 54. scottish football allowed too many foreign players into their league thus limiting the chances of their own players. other interests mean hardly any players come out of scotland anymore celtic/rangers dominate a weak league.same thing is happening in england now.sorry to say that even brazilian football does not impress me the way it used too

@chrissy17169 Just gave you a list of players,all set to make moves to the EPL.And have all come out Scottish systems,apart from wee Rhodes.You should look them up.And maybe next time,you will not make such negative comments.Our under 21 team got 3 points in Holland to recently,playing posistive attacking football with wingers in a 4 3 3.The Dutch have won 3 out the last 4 Euro finals at that level.So the future is looking good for us right now.Any team in the world,would have been proud of that

This Scotland team has 3 players from the Man Utd side that had just been relegated including both centre halves. But as Scotland kept 3 clean sheets you have to think what a great coach Ormond must have been.

I remeber that match so well - I was 10 yrs old! David Coleman was such a good commentator and you always got the impression he really wanted Scotland to win. I read John Motson today in the telegraph saying that he (DC) really helped him a lot when he started his career as a BBC commentator. Scotland so nearly won that game! Revelino was pretty candid about Bremner in a doc about Brazilian football I watched a while ago. They tussled quite a bit in this match, but Revelino said that he received a complementary letter from Bremner sometime after this game was played. Revelino then expressed sadness at BB's early passing which was respectful.

Honestly, It's David Coleman. If you check out some of the Italy vs West Germany action from 1970 on YouTube, you will be able to tell the difference. Coleman is more staccato and sharp, Johns is more chatty and descriptive. Their tones of voice are quite distinctive. (Besides, I remember watching Bremner miss that chance at the time and Coleman's shriek of " and ... WIDE by Billy Bremner " is indeliby etched on my memory).

Well, we can go on like this until the next world cup starts. But that's David Coleman commentating for the reasons I gave in my previous post. I say again, check out out Hugh Johns on all the old ITV Midland matches on YouTube, but especially the W Germany v Italy game from 1970. Coleman's vocal ticks are just so different from Hugh Johns' style. I won't post about this again, because I'm sure no-one's interested, but it's just Coleman on this one. Maybe the poster could settle it?

Love this! We were so unlucky not to win that match. If we had, we would've gone through. It could easily have been Scotland v W Germany in the final. We could have won WM74.
