Don't believe everything u see in Hollywood movies Woody was a commercial success and Memphis Sue was a fictional character just to name 2 points. Socialism helped bring us out of the Great Depression, then ww2.
Woody Guthrie was an avowed socialist and left his family to roam and play music. You can enjoy the folk songs and omit the politics and morality of the man. The problem is his songs were very political, so even there you may be selective. Appreciate musicians and music w/o politics. Less anger, more musical pleasure and enjoyment.
@mvies77 You can't be a working class hero without being a socialist,see John Lennon's Working Class Hero,the point in politics is too see the bases,quite frankly i am a socialist myself,but my party color is dead,because I dream in crimson red,of course I mean Marxism-Leninism,the one political system that really got me,it was so close to people,unfortunately it was too UTOPIC ,coudn't really work out,see Lenin's work,you can find on wikipedia,maybe you will understand more.
@munteanut I have studied the political, social, gvt systems and the free enterprise system is the only one that offers true freedom for the common man.Marxism/Leninism as you say is unattainable because mankind is made up of individuals.There will always be those who achieve and those who are takers and do nothing.Communism fails. Socialism gives too much control to gvt.Trusting gvt for equality is futile.It only devours.Giving free rein to the indvl is the way for them to attain.My view.
This movie has all the Leftist/Socialist talking points; big business=dead poor folks, stingy, un-Christ like preachers, free sex=good, abandoning wife and kids=good, immigrants=good, Police=evil, Communism=good, Unions=good. In contrast I've never met lazier people than fat Union slugs. Most of the young criminals in prison were abandoned by their dads. Free sex has led to disease, porn & abortion-scarred women. And poor, dead David Carradine killed himself jacking off in a Thai hotel.
I can't thank you enough for posting this! I've been trying to find this movie for years. It was definitely worth waiting for. David Carradine does a totally amazing job of playing Woody.
The funny thing is, he's on his way to California, but riding the train, he was already there! He was riding the historic Sierra Railroad at Railtown 1897 behind locomotives 28 and 34. This is a great movie, thanks for sharing!
