  • I think color in movies was first in 1939 with the Wizard of Oz. but it didn't catch on for a while because it was so expensive.

  • i like being able to watch these wiseguys in color, but nothing beats watching the three stooges in black and white.

  • We Like Curley...

  • So now, seeing this in color, I finally understood the joke when Curly covered the decoration on the car! It was a little harder to see it in black and white, lol. Love The Stooges, RIP you guys.

  • I love how Curley swims when he's in shallow water.

  • At 0:55 color makes her nipples visible! Nyuk nyuk! Woo-woo

  • 7:25 Curly's the OG of planking.

  • The people who dislike this video are pessimists.

  • my coutry still put three stooges episod in the late night i like to watch them

  • @cgp12878 Ah, so THAT'S why Mrs. Cattsby said "Dressed like... fan dancers."

  • 0.53 check out the nipple action! I bet it would have made a few mens dreams cum true in 1938

  • one of the best comedy teams of all time. I also find that shemp, curly, curly joe besser and curly joe DeRita all brought their own flavor with them. Helping to carry the stooges through these many years of genius. Rest in peace stooges, i hope your slappin people and pokin eyes in heaven.

  • I know there was war back then and in those times they had there own problems but still, I feel I missed out big time. This is true comedy at its best, its no wonder theres so much depression in the world today, the only things we air on tv now and in the movie theatres involve Blood, Gore, Death, Sex and even more Death. I feel depressed just thinking about it...... Oh, Three Stooges how you are missed!!!

  • 8:40 "Now look at the mess you got us into!" You sure did Curley.

  • "take a seat field marshall" OMG i died laughing at that!!!

  • LOL its always the 3 stooges VS high society...super soyvice!

  • Girls were very sexy in these years, say no to exagerated slim

  • @alucinantewon I know what you mean. I always wanted to model myself after the pretty girls in those times, they were so elegant and so beautiful; There was no pressure to be extra skinny and they didn't feel the need to act masculen. They usually got by on there femminine charm. Lol!!! Chivallry was still alive and kicking back then too.

  • HAHA 8:23 is hilarious!

  • @asianmami49 moe's their leader.

  • @cruciphile I know that.

  • @cruciphile Thanks, Homer. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I love the Stooges.... But that was very distracting, in a good way!

Aaaand.... I'm sure Curly would agree!!!!

  • @american2015 Color Paragraphs Was Invented In 1907 & Color Films Was Invented In 1926

  • You rock for posting these gems of film history!!

  • Moe-"20 minutes to a pound. Heh-heh! We'll be here a month."

  • Hard nipples at :54 yep....

  • I never really understood why it was called this title. I would expect this episode title to be in a boxing episode but not this one... someone please explain

  • how do they do it in color?

  • That is so funny!

  • Yes!

  • Super service!!!

  • Color photographs were invented in 1907. Color film was invented in 1935. It seems to me that once something is invented like that, that should be the way to go from then on, in which case, this 1938 film should've been fimed in color. I guess people of that time weren't as progressive as we are now. I wasn't around then, but I was around in the 60's, and even then, people were more afraid of new things than we are now. I heard my great great grandfather shot at the first car he ever saw, lol.

  • At the time, color film was very expensive to use. Not gonna lie, I like the Stooges, in black and white, and in color. It's just a rarity to see 1930's classic in color.

  • The color is not that bad! Fairly realistic.

  • These and all stooge shorts where filmed in black and white. They look so good because they have used computers and gone frame by frame and colorized these shorts. They even had a team of people investigating labels, clothes etc to try and get the color just right! They did a fantastic job!

  • I like 'em!

  • @american2015

    i tottaly agree

  • @american2015 The colorization looks so good because of the quality of the black and white original photography and it's resolution. Some earlier color movies were a bit soft and fuzzy.

  • Well colorizing, and filming shows in color was really expensive to do at the time so only people with a large budget would be able to do it. lol, even Groucho spoke in the fourth wall and said "This is actually a bright red dress but Technicolor is sooo expensive"

  • @WanagiAkicita

Color films became the norm in the 60's. Sound was way more popular than color. Since people were used to BW and the impact of color wasn't that dramatic and because such productions weren't cost effective, it took more time for color to become popular. With time, better tech were developed... Therefore convenience... Therefore norm...

  • @WanagiAkicita it wasn't worth the investment for these little shorts. You have to remember these were sandwiched in between news clips and feature films etc Color cameras were big and expensive.

  • @WanagiAkicita

They were shot in black-andwhite because colour film was too expensive in the 1940s. If you watch movies from that time period, you'll notice most of them are in black-and-white for the same reason.

  • @WanagiAkicita - True but it was expensive to have it filmed in color

  • @dhanson33 The three Howards and Larry got rich off this. The two Joe's were the broke ones who only got an actor's salary for it.

  • It was really expensive to have color back in the 30's till probably the 60's.

  • @WanagiAkicita

The reason why they didnt use color back then is because:

    1. Color was waaaayy more expensive than B&W.

    2. The cameras were more bulky to use outside where alot of the shorts were shot

they werent afraid of color, just wasnt economical.

  • @WanagiAkicita Yes color film was available, but as being something new, it was very expensive compared to b&w filming, plus the investments for color folm equiptment.

  • @TheHylander1314 The only full color motion picture film process then was Technicolor, which was expensive because it required the exposure of three black and white negatives simultaneously. A prism was used to filter off each of the primary colors, red, green, and blue. There was no color negative film until 1947. So the color was obtain by dying from the impressions made on the separate negatives. This was called "Color by Addition."

  • @TheHylander1314 The Technicolor cameras and their crews had to be leased from Technicolor Corporation. Studio personnel were not allowed to load or handle the Technicolor cameras. So there was not "investment" in the equipment, but a lease.

  • Its murder! its arson! lets get outta here

  • I wonder how many tort lawsuits they could come up with for THAT kind of treatment! :p

  • 6:30 LOL and Curley didnt move,,,lol

  • I like the colors ,they did a good job , must be difficult to work each frame, as hard as restoring the 16th chapel i think ; In the future they will try it again ,and make it better because much like michaelangelo's work the three stooges deserve to be viewed in the future and in the far far future as well .

  • It was filmed in black and white.

  • Anyone know if this was actually filmed in color or was it colorized?

  • It was filmed in black and white but Columbia tried to make a colorized version of this short.

  • Actually, this and all of the stooge shorts were filmed in Black and White but this colorized short was done by "ChromaChoice". Chromachoice colorized each frame with assistance of computers. Other attempts to colorize the stooge shorts have been less than satisfactory.

  • Hi, can you tell me how the Producers came up with the name of this episode? tia

  • how do you know all of this?( i know its a stupid question)
