this song is actually about a man who gambles his life away, just as his father had xDDD I have NO idea what it has to do with children disappearing or a sinister anything.... haha.. punk music and their silly interpretations of classic songs xDDD
"This is about a brothel in New Orleans. "The House Of The Rising Sun" was named after Madame Marianne LeSoleil Levant (which means "Rising Sun" in French) and was open for business from 1862 (occupation by Union troops) until 1874, when it was closed due to complaints by neighbors. It was located at 826-830 St. Louis St." :x I would have agreed with you but gambling is rarely refered to as sinful... :x still a good song though~
well the lyric was "my father was a gambling man, down in new orleans" and "the only thing a gambler needs is a suitcase and a truck and the only time when he's satisfied is when he's on a drunk" so I sort of supposed. they don't make much of a direct reference to brothels so I took it as what I heard in the song xD and they said gambling so.. I figured that's what it was about xD since they mention it and all.
and gambling is a sin X_X if you ask religious people. I was taught that growing up
There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one My mother was a tailor She sewed my new bluejeans My father was a gamblin' man Down in New Orleans Now the only thing a gambler needs Is a suitcase and trunk And the only time he's satisfied Is when he's on a drunk
those are the official lyrics by The Animals. This version is a cover xDDD and they omitted lyrics. like... MOST of the lyrics. In the original versions (by the Animals), it has many more lyrics. Please understand, this is nowhere near the original. Please before you tell me it's not in the lyrics, find the REAL song and the REAL lyrics. ^^ this should clean up our misunderstanding.
I just know my music haha. I thought you knew this was a punk-cover, so I thought you knew the real lyrics too.
yeah. sort of goes full circle. his mother was a home maker and a tailor, his father gambled his life away in New Orleans and he lives in sin (brothels, gambling (which is a sin~), getting drunk) and he realizes he's turning into his father and is a wanderer. His father abandoned the family (as the song suggests with the -a suitcase and a truck- line) and he's now regretting it, but he's addicted, so there's no hope (-so mothers tell your children not to do what I have done-)
i love this movie it is a instant classic i love the ending you ppl should really check it out if you like this i would recommend spirited away by miazaki
Agreed. I watched Kakurenbo and Spirited Away recently, and they both have a similar sinister/creepy atmosphere. That might be why Spirited Away is the only Miyazaki I like.
The song also says "Well, I got one foot on the platform the other foot on the train; I'm goin' back to New Orleans to wear that ball and chain. I thought that this refers to a jail but I guess it links to girls forced to be in a brothels.
I actually found this one when I was looking at covers of it when I found this one. It's one of the most covered songs. I chose this version because it goes better with the video, especially the drums.
muse are my favourite band. (saw them at nec b'ham last wednesday =]) they have really made this song their own and you coult tell it was them even without knowing. i think its a brilliant version of the song but i guess everyone has their own opinions! MUSE RULE FOREVER! \m/
i love muses cover on this one. Its really good. I loved it when the animal did the song, but aaah. this is brilliant. i'm kind of bored of the normal one so i much prefer this one. And i love muse 2 so x)
I was thinking about the drums during the chase scenes. I also thought the demon on the back of the cannon thing chasing the red eyed children looked like he was playing the drums.
Like many classic folk ballads, the authorship of "The House of the Rising Sun", sometimes called "Rising Sun Blues", is dubious. The melody was taken from a traditional English ballad and the lyrics written by a pair of Kentuckians named Georgia Turner and Bert Martin. The phrase "House of the Rising Sun" is a euphemism for a brothel, but it is not known whether or not the house described in the lyrics is an actual or fictitious place.
actually no one knows what the house of the rising sun was. many belive it was a brothel others belive it was a WOMANS prison with rising suns painted. the original lyrics were from a girls point of view.
I looked it up and a lot of people do say it's about a brothel, so I guess I'm wrong. But the lyrics never say anything about marriage, unless you're looking up a cover or something. It says "it's been the ruin of many poor boys (or girls depending on the version) and god I know I'm one."
yes, i would love to see something to the animals version... an anime... hellsing maybe???i think thatd be so cool, but this definately gave it a new twist
Its all good being a fan of Muse, but The Animals created something so pointed, and this is just regurgitation, and well sounds like I would expect puke to sound like if it had a sound ouside of the look and smell. Sorry guys
I DIDNT KNOW MUSE REMADE THE HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN!!! THIS IS AWESOME. he sings it like the animals do. i love it because i love the animals' version. they made it the best. cause ive heard other versions: not good
Wow, muse can do anything, take something, and make it ALL thier own, its amazing, I love it. The way the guitar sounds, itd just to... Them. You could tell it was them even without knowing.
The only great on this video is to see how long this tradiotional song survived and in how many mucis genres it's played. But this is not my taste.

Actully I'm going to corrected you, I was right.

No, it's a brothel run by Japanese people (hence the Rising Sun). It ruined the marriages of the "poor boys" it didn't lock them up.
