The most breathtaking song I have ever heard by the most breathtaking woman on the face of earth ! Miss America is great but this is even greater ! Thank you Mary Margaret where ever you are... the muse of the angels. That´s what you are !
Wow Mary-Margaret-O'Hara, you and your violinist are ripping my heart out :o) - I love it - your voice reminded me of Joan Baez, but I think you are even more talented than even she. Bravo. It looks to me like Hugh M. is enjoying accompanying youas well n so he should, you and he are awesome!!!! :o)
Another Canadian vocalist, Holly Cole, made this song well-known, but Mary Margaret O'Hara composed it and, especially if you listen to her performance of it backed up by The Henrys, you'll notice that O'Hara brings so much more passion and artistry to it.
In fact, the best place to listen to O'Hara's splendour as a vocalist are the various Henrys CDs, where she always sings on one or more tracks.
Holly's recording of this is actually the name of one of her best albums: DARK DEAR HEART (1997 Alert) and it's easily in the top three on it. Don't know who's version I like better, they're completely different, but equally moving.
O'Hara also wrote BRIGHTER LONELY DAY from the same album. Fantastic stuff!
@dubkarma I love both Holly Cole and MMO, and consider "Miss America" one of the great albums ever, but I'm not sure I agree with you about the "passion & artistry". I think Cole just has a different passion w/ the song.
I listened to Cole's reinterpretations of Tom Waits this past week, and she just has a way of making everything so seductive!
Absolutely spellbinding!! Thanks for posting this. There's been so little footage of her over the years. Saw her twice in London. England in '89 and '91-ish. You just can't take your eyes off her. A unique performer!
And she's singing with Blue Rodeo? Wow.

I can't tell you how much I'd wish she would tour....even in Canada.
Anywhere....they must have planes that would fly there.....
What a National Treasure.....that must be shared.......
This is the most pleasureable pain I've ever heard......
Please play live for one year so people can know your power.....
