I just happened upon this old clip today and am surprised how my emotions have been jolted back to the 1970's. Things seem so simple then - the world needed Henry Gibson then and by gosh we need him now.
Henry was so talented and funny. I miss him already ! Does anybody know why the hand that he used to hold the flower was always trembling ? Was it part of his "act", or was Henry a little nervous during the "poetry reciting" sketches ?
An excellent tribute. I grew up with Laugh-In; I was too young to properly appreciate the poems, but they weren't anything like what I was being taught at school. Automatically that made them good... and they're still good today.
Nostalgia is just as foolish as our current problems. In fact, it's part of them.

Wow! Is this Henry Gibson related to Rand Paul? It's freaky how much they look and act alike! HAHAHA Kentucky is such a weird state! HAHAHAHA

The Bunny Rabbit by Shawn P.
The bunny rabbit I don't hold in disdain
Just because it runs to hide when it starts to rain.
I hope one day to see a real one in Maine,
Instead of seeing just his foot upon a chain. ;)

I also remember Henry Gibson's one-liners as a parson:
"I'm all for modernizing marriage ceremonies,but I still think,'I do,'sounds better than,'Right on,Daddio!'"
"My church welcomes all denominations, but my favorite is the $5.00 bill."
"I wish teenagers wouldn't refer to Matthew,Mark,Luke and John as the Fab Four."
"When the Lord comes on Judgement Day,let us not say Here comes da Judge."

I like that Sammy Davis Jr called him Jim, which is his real name. I met him once. He was a lovely man.

His stage name "Henry Gibson" was a pun on the name of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen

Yeah I noticed that...was wondering if HG went by Jim or James to his close friends...
