Fantastic saw them at the Hammersmith Odeon, as here always got the crowd jumping and cheering.Mr Anderson one of the Worlds great showmen. Brilliant.
his voice at this time sadly went downhill. chainsmoking cigarettes i hear. but he could still sing, you had to get used to the raspier sound...thats all.
Tull toured in '82 and it was my first monster concert. Probably not this show, but it looks close to what I recall, though I was 10 miles high, up in the far section.
I've been a "Tull Skull" since the first time I heard their music. Saw them at the Long Beach Auditorium in the early seventies and still remember it well.
Timeless... Tull is another reason that the Brits will always have the edge in rock. This is so difficult to reason.... it comes from way back then!!!!! We had it made.... didn't we.
I've listened to them since the early-mid 70s. Saw them live in the late 70s. Still love it!! And i love it that your parents taught you great music, like I have taught my sons!
Same here, my dad bought me my first Single when i was 2. I used to fall asleep to my dad's music. So since i could think i looked up to King Crimson and co.
I really like this song, but I wish it had a little more energy and drive. (I'm kidding.) If it had any more energy or drive, I'd run off the road, if I heard it on my car radio! I can't think of a more spring-loaded, ready to blast-off song, ever.
@GracieRicker yep ...he's better than Hans christian , Gillian , Mr anderson from matrix , Jon {well he's alright too } and Angry ...he's a better anderson than them all .
The R&R Hall of fame was a good idea but has become a laughing stock. When you look objectively at who is in and not, just a little ways beyond the Beatles, Stones, and other obvious, it makes no sense.. The list of inductees each year is someone's misguided social engineering project. Wouldn't it be nice if the Hall could shelve politics and live up to its purpose.
Too tough to replace the golden era of the 60's, 70's and somewhat the 80's of rock that existed then. I grew up during that era and I am now 54. I am having a blast rediscovering the classic rock and having a blast all over again.
I "discovered" Jethro Tull in 1968 and thought "Wow, this music really ROCKS! And who is this weird guy with the flute? He even plays, standing on one leg! I mean, really, the guy plays the flute, not an electric guitar! No way! What's next, a tuba?" For rock music that can and will jack you up, even almost 45 years later, Jethro Tull is one of the all-time BEST. And, from reading posts here, I'd have to agree: Why aren't they in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?!? They should be.
Lebewesen.
Detroit, with the greatest rock n roll audiences in the world.......I watched these guys pack Cobo 4 nights in a row. They'd always announce tickets for one show, then add 'em on like crazy. They would sell them all out in one day.
Anybody who can play a flute on 1 leg in a rock band must have something going for them. think genius is the word. as for the one albulm thing. that is total crap. Bungle wasn,t even on the first one. Anderson is a 1off. never to be copied. Anybody ever seen a tribute band? No I rest my case!!!
The times were good jethro tull's first alblum was great but it takes more than one for stayin power, bungle in the jungle and that was it didn't hear much from them after that
This song alone, WHY AREN'T THEY IN THE ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME!!! BLONDIE? IS IN THE HALL OF SHAME!!!! Not trying to take away from Blondie fans, I'm just saying! My husband and I met in college about 38 years ago, and his criteria for sticking with me and not the other girl was that I loved Jethro Tull music as much as him. We went to every concert venue from 19 years old on. Always a packed concert. Always the wow factor. It is a crime that they have been denied!!!!
@zzzzzzzz594 Yeah, but if you look at how many albums Tull produced and are still producing, then sales of those alone should be a qualifier. Their concerts packed all the biggest venues in California, and their shows themselves were mind blowing with scenery, costumes and effects. I just don't understand why America can't be the nominators and the voters for this, cause I think then, presented to the public, they would be in! I'm just saying!!! I mean, "Passion Play????"
@SPTunnelMotor I know, even the grammy is a joke. Remember when Tull won the grammy over Metallica for best Heavy Metal??? LOL, Kinda like when Norah Jones won the grammy for pop, and she said on her acceptance speech that she didn't know that jazz qualified as pop! She was insulted, as was Tull. Go figure!
@ModernMetal88 One thing you want to make sure of is that you listen to his later work as well as the early stuff. When I mention Tull to most people, young or older, they always say things like, "oh yeah dude, like, Aqualung!" Try North Seal Oil, and Whistler, and Farm On The Freeway, Passion Play, Cheerio, Songs From The Wood, one of my all time faves was My God. Trust me, it was an acquired taste, from Thick As A Brick on, but soon I loved it. She's out there, you'll find her!
@MungoReenee Actually, my favorite Tull's song is Thick as a brick. I was shock the first time I hear it. As a musician, I cant imagine how those guys can come up with something so complex at that time. Well, it's kinda weird for any girl who love a 45 minute song, isn't it :D
Man, you really nailed it with this upload! Great video quality, excellent audio quality - and the balls to the wall energy of the Scottish madman! Well done!
FUCKING awesome! In July of '73 we waited at the doors of the concert for entry. I still have it framed to this day reminding me of my first concert and $10 lids. BTW, general admission was $6 in San Diego at the Sports Arena.
