  • That was fantastic.

  • I don't know why 20 people would have disliked it. He's Hungarian, I think he knows what he's doing.. XP

  • last girl he fingered,........DIED.

  • @ToxikDouche What a primitive stupid you are.

  • @annamarialondon I do appreciate the music. I in no way dont question his ability. i was just trying to inject a little humor.

  • i bet this guy can finger like a fucking machine!!!

  • just wow! is he playing it like Liszt intended it to be played?

  • This is my favorite speed i've heard and

    great playing

  • He's a real talent, and no, he's not Cziffra, he's Adam Gyorgy, and I think it's an immense honour to be asked to play at Carnegie Hall for the 200th anniversary of Liszt...I've met Adam when he played in our city, and he was warm, kind, and totally floored me with the intensity and emotion depth, as he lives this material.

Anyone who thinks otherwise should post their videos!...Cheers to AG!

  • @stellartunes He is definitely one of the most exciting young Liszt pianists. He has spectacular technique but also plays with an impeccable musical sense. An amazing talent!

  • Damn, the most handsome pianist alive in the world!!!

  • Me transporta a un mundo de fantasias germanicas, de hadas y duendes en aquellos bosques de hojas anchas.

  • He's hot.

  • @lukeanson @boxers7x5 can't we all just get along! :-)

  • No imagination in his playing whatsoever.

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzz.

  • @boxers7x5 No imagination in your comment whatsoever. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzz.

  • @lukeanson

LOL, you imitate what I wrote and tell ME I have no imagination.

What an ass you are, ha ha.

Also, you obviously know NOTHING about great piano performances.

  • @boxers7x5 I quite like donkeys actually, they're alot more use than an arrogant fake authority on music. Also, there seems to be something wrong with your insults because they're not working. I think they might be broken. Here's one of mine you can have: you droning rump-fed ill-breed pignut puttock.

  • @lukeanson Hmmmm, guess my insult worked because you bothered to reply

    Ha ha, LOSER.

  • If I was this pianist, having studied years and years... and then watched Cziffra play it.... I would go to the next gun shop and end it all...

  • @silverbud that's dumb as fuck. Why? Cziffra plays this amazing don't get me wrong, but so does Gyorgy, he plays slower and with different emphasis but that's the beauty of different pianists displaying their own unique interpretation. Gyorgy plays with great emotion and the fact that Cziffra's is more popular doesn't make Gyorgy any less talented. If you or I could play as well as this pianist I guarantee we would both be overjoyed.

  • wonderful Adam

  • A thrilling ride. Super-fantastic!!!!! Yay!

  • so good!!!!!!

  • love his interpretation more than cziffra's.. good job adam, you rock ;))

  • 17 people are Gnome haters.

  • SUPERB...bravo!!!

    Regards Adriana

  • SUperb..bravo!!!

    Regards Adriana

  • amazing

  • I like his interpretation. Very enjoyable.

  • DAMN....

    JUST WOW.

  • As a robot, I thought it was very well done.

  • @snoopyflick Wasn't this the music they played at the factory while they built you?

  • What the fuck is going on with him :S?

  • Far better than cziffra and richter. They only want to show how fast they can play the piano, but that is not what music is about. Bravo, Adam!

  • @Nuramon345 worst comment i have ever seen! so gyorgy has bad skills and he can play to his ability, and you still say this is great, LOL

Only someone totally ignorant can say this is better than richter and cziffra

  • @reddawnsky dude, it's his opinion, only an idiot comment on someone else's opinion, who cares about what you think bout richter and cziffra? Don't go chasing after someone else's words

  • @adamgyorgyfranzliszt You got it! On second listen, I don't dislike Adam's playing.

  • @Nuramon345 Thats funny cuz Adams video has over 79,000 views and when you look at Cziffra's he has over 86,000. And since your probably gonna view it now, you just contirbuted to the views as well.

  • @DmasterQuIFF57 Hey man, skill has nothing to do with view count. Liberace was pretty damn popular but did that make him a better pianist? I for one think comparing world-class professional pianists is like comparing supercars, sure it's kind of fun but it doesn't matter, they're on a whole other level. Though I have to say, this performance is clean as hell.

  • Gratulálok! Fantasztikus a technikád! Kinél tanultál?

  • look at your playing, now look to mine, look back to yours, now back to mine,

sadly, yours isn't mine, but if you start practice you could play like its me,

    I'm on a piano

  • All y'all talk like you know so much about piano, but none of you know nothing at all. This guy learnt how to think of the way to play it, he care on his touch and the sound that comes out, it's not about how fast you play, it's keeping the tempo and the beat together, but most of all is still knowing about yourself on the piano, then you can control yourself to do whatever you want on it. Control the sound and the touch so it is good. Get it homie? It's about you playing , not the piece itself.

  • @adamgyorgyfranzliszt its either you all or all of you. all ya'll is not necessary. none of you know nothing is a double negative none of you know anything is the right way to go.he can't learnt to play a piano. he Learned. other than that i agree with you 100 % there has to be a connection between the piece and the pianist playing it, otherwise it would never sound right.

  • @Californiaguy03 "learnt" is used in the UK, and probably all over europe. take it easy with the English lessons.

  • @Californiaguy03 well, as long as you get the message, thanks for the grammar check

  • I HEAR THE GNOMES

  • I love this video of Adam Gyorgy because he plays the best on the piano.

  • i played this piece yesterday in a concert... i wish it would have sounds like this and it would have been this fast... he plays it amazing ! and you understand it even more if you know the piece ... it is first of all really hard technic and it is mentally hard because of it think 4 or 5 time key changes!

  • he just plays this amazing.

i have to pratcie more :P

  • @VBTrailer Im going to play the piano to

  • @hannamontanna1000 Im pretty sure you are never going to play like this in your entire life. Advised.

  • molto pulito ,forse manca un pò di interpretazione come dire narrativa

  • everytime. i run out of energy at the end .

  • at 1:04 and on I swear there's an orange glow to his fingers...they are really on fire! lol

  • lol, i see it! on his finger tips!

  • Wonderful playing!

  • bravo

  • they always sound so perfect and easy at performance speed until you try them yourself...*sigh*

  • i kno, it sux, i kno how u feel :\

diligent practice and u can be there too!

  • I would have smiled too after playing an awesome song that perfectly :)

  • love his way of playing..i looks that easy! but i think everyone who has tried this peace knows it is NOT!!

  • THis is soo cool! I can see the Gnomes frolicking around haha

  • @chutdigadut OMG I agree! The reason the name is so fitting for the piece, so quick, so naughty, so cute, all symbolic of Dancing Gnomes.... Liszt was truly a prodigy!

And this video was WIN by the way, I really appreciate videos that pay attention to a pianists hands/fingers instead of their face or background.

  • freaking glorious. He captures perfectly the subtly mechanical nature that I believe this song was meant to display, and every single solitary note is enunciated beautifully. Bravo bravo bravo, genius.

  • bello e bravo

  • Songs in F-sharp minor rock! (Like this one...)

  • Nagyszerű volt.

További sikereket Ádám! Halgatni foglak :-)

  • If only there was a pianist who lived in my town who could play like that and was equally as attractive... *sigh*

    xD

  • i love the harmonies between 2:23 and 2:30

  • I agree that he could interpret it a little more freely, but still a great performance. I'm playing this piece right now and it's pretty difficult at some parts.

  • Absolutely beautiful, and the pianist is quite attractive too.

  • Can someone tell me how do I achieve the technical delicacy of Liszt's Etude?

Do I have to be SUPER anally accurate in the beginning? I mean come on...

  • I don't think you should be a child prodigy to play this..

  • So I DON"T have to be anally accurate? It sounds like broken chords for the most part...

  • I really don't know,but how hard can it get ?

You know what i mean ?

  • it gets to the point of wanting do rip your hair out. its definitely doable but its frustrating up the butt!

  • he plays just amazing! and he's cute!

  • @flashback0245 I agree with you he is the cutest guy

  • It's a good, performance, almost forgettable but for the bombast in the second half.

  • He certainly is a great virtuoso --- no doubt about that. It's wonderful to behold.

But check out Guiomar Novaes' 1923 recording posted here on YouTube. The sound is a little scratchy, but the ARTISTRY is incomparable. Novaes gives off an aura of sheer MAGIC that transcends mere brilliance.

  • technically brilliant. but agree, that there's no interpretation in that. I tried to learn to play this piece, it's hard (I'm not profesional) but it gives a lot fun.

  • Awesome!!!

  • Dude's Amazing!

  • Outstanding! This interpretation approaches the level of the great masters of the piano.

  • I had read that he was made a Steinway Fellow several years ago. I believe he is one of 54 who have that signal honor. He almost always seems to be having a truly great time when performing.

His recording of 'la campanella' in 2003 was the best I've yet heard.

  • do these steinway fellows get free pianos? lol

  • Good question. I'm not sure about about "free pianos", but Steinway makes sure that he has either a model "D" or "C" available for concert appearences. A model "D", in standard ebony, runs close to $200,000, and those with custom finishes can run easily twice as much.

  • i hear a fazioli can go for $300,000. Say whats the big difference between all these highend pianos? Bosendorfer, Schimmel, Grotrian, Fazioli, Steinway blah blah blah

  • There are some technical differences, but mostly it's a personal preference. My mother used to have a Schimmel, but she always wanted a Steinway. She never got it. Instead, my Father bought her a large model Baldwin organ. He LOVED to listen to ANYTHING on the organ....even if it were only 'chopsticks'.

  • NO WAY! I could put a metronome to this bullshit interpretation. There is zero artistry and personality, only well rehearsed technique. Yawn.

  • or maybe he just has good timing. lol jk

  • He is (in my estimation) simply the best of all the current crop of young pianists at anything by LIszt. I've never heard anyone play 'La campenella' any better...not even Cziffra.

  • I think it's worth some applause. No need to be extremely negative!

  • @kylelandry I agree with you

  • @kylelandry Holy Sh*t WHAT A COINCIDENCE. My friend posted this to see what piece he was playing. and I see Kyle Landry's comment here O.o My favorite Pianist on youtube :D

  • @Ckorn123

    Exactly.

  • Wow.

The stocatto, the HUGE crystal clear sound.. wow.

  • I didn't like his opening as much... still good.

  • better than cziffra????? come on^^

he's good, but not even close to cziffra

  • u can't say this is better than cziffra simply because it is clearer, cziffras version is no much older, and cziffra was so practiced at playing liszt, his interpretation matches the lisztonian mood so much more, thats not to say, gyorgy presents here a truly fantastic technical performance, bravo

  • the best Ive heard,, cant get any better

  • better than cziffra:p

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Franz Liszt himself would have been very very proud of Gyorgy for this piece interpretation.

What Liszt described as an impossible piece, this cool guy played it effortlessly . . . . . . .

  • This is FANTASTIC!!!

  • inCREDIBLE!!!!

  • i like this guys over cziffras. i think its like the whole just cause its cziffra thing that people prefer his. well i guess thats an overstatement.

  • Cziffra

  • i agree it is quite flat it need to be light and playful

  • he should probably be very good by no, six years later, so i hoped he can this better next time, even though i must say it is a good performance, he still managed to make some mistakes in one of his other performances, otherwise, congrats

  • Adam Gyorgy is probably now one of my favourite concert pianists

  • he's hot.

  • i have to agree pabeet, technically, his performance is great, but musically, it somehow falls flat. a quite dull performance. i feel like he was just playing the notes.

  • it's difficult to put personality into a piece at this speed.

  • The fact that this is a difficult work and the guy plays the notes accurately is not enough for so many bravos! Look at the music and find out by yourself all the pianos and pianissimos he ignores. There's no doubt this guy has a very good technique and plays piano very well but he needs to follow what Liszt wrote in order to recreate the master piece that this work is.

These gnomes are meant to be light and gracious, not sluggish.

We need to take our sense of judgement to a higher level.

  • pabeet seems to be a superior critic, but Gyrogy is a superior musician. He's also one of only 54 Steinway Fellows...which places him in rarified company, such as; Rubenstein, Horowitz, and only a handful of other superior talent.

I think he plays Liszt just as Liszt intended.

  • He's playing it as he wants to play it, I don't think he cares what you think.

    QQ about pianos/pianissimos etc.

  • its all about style, everyone has different styles when they play. If you do everything the note says then the world of piano would be a really boring place...

  • Oh, mercy. I do believe that pabeet must be expecting to see the Travelocity Gnome doing a quick two-step.

Adam Gyorgy is a master of Liszt's music.

  • watch cziffra

  • I have watched Cziffra in concert. I dislike actually watching him play. I dislike watching any musician who has to display "theatrical" facial expressions and flamboyant arm gestures. The fewer the gestures, the better. I realize that if I close my eyes, their gestures don't affect what I hear--but, I don't enjoy a concert "blindfolded".

  • Wow, he's good

  • I wish "higher critics" would post a link to their own recordings. Adam is one of 54 Steinway Fellows, along with the likes of Rubenstein, Horowitz, and others. Prettry rarefied company.

  • Fabulous! Bravo~!

  • Perfect!!!

  • Bravo.

  • Learning this now, its difficult to actually know what notes you are playing at times, because of the extremely rapid pace of some of the sections. I had to stop learing it a while ago as I could not manage the part towards the end with the hands together runs. Think 2:34-2:37 I could not get the notes to match up exactly, very annoying, dont know if I can now to be honest.

  • Dude, it took me like five months to nail down that part... but I managed in the end, so I'm sure you can do it, as my talent is only average at best.

  • I've been studying this score because my teacher has assigned it to me and I'm very worried for this part... what would you say helped facilitate you the most on this part?

  • I dont' remember, i haven't touched this piece in a year.

  • im sure if you practice with enough rachmaninoff, you'll get down chord stuff. lol

  • god just imagine the stress that dude is going through. He probably just got finished with probably an entire like level 10 piano concerto and then the audience is like WE WANT MORE. so he has to dish them out another grade ten piece ALL BY HIMSELF. that SUCKS. You know. no orchestra to drown out your mistake. god that sucks.

  • level 10 piano concerto lol?

    what does that even mean.?

  • its a figure of speech meaning like super hard to do. INCredibly difficult idk. you know how lots of stuff like the max is level 10 kind of stuff? well yeah thats what i mean here

  • I like to play this on the organ with a slight bossa nova tempo behind it - gives it a real lift -

  • a love this interpretation!!! very good :)

  • i'm playing this now...

    it's really hard.

  • Damn right. Although I prefer the version with pedal, it sounds cooler.

  • omg...I'm playing this now too, and it's so hard and FAST!! :S

  • me too... First I was liek: What an easy piece but now im like wtf :(

I like this without the pedal :) sounds very gnomeish :D

  • He is using the pedal just very carefully:)

  • Cet homme la joue merveilleusement bien.

Partager des moments entre mélomanes et musiciens sur le forum de la musique classique :

    leforumdelamusique. xooit. fr

  • exellent!

  • he is pretty amazing. His subito piano at 2:38is impressive.

  • A fine performance!!

  • best interpretation off all in youtube!

  • my favourite part of that was his sheer pride beeming at the very end, and then he hid it.

  • S P E C T A C U L A R

  • Brilliant!!!

    I love his smile...

  • I agree with some of you. Arrau in this tempo is unsurpassed, but particularly in this piece Cziffra achieves something more, perhaps Arrau's performance is the classic one and Cziffra's is the modern one.

In any case this guy is closer to that great masters, maybe with time he would gain a more deep understanding of what he is playing, Arrau himself began playing too fast and too bright.

  • 2:05->2:36 is fantastic!

  • i like his tempo choices :D

  • Tempo wise about the same of Arrau but lacks Arrau's tone and colour. Cziffra's still unbeaten in my opinion. I think Gyorgy lacks the excitment that you get from Cziffra's interpretation.

  • totally agree with you

    bye

  • feels like he's studying. Actually the tempo isn't rushed and that's a good point- but I still prefer Cziffra's record (Caused NOT on the speed)

  • u could tell hes very very nercous cause his face smiles and desnt smile and yeah. but on 50 he doesnt get nervous after that

  • not my favourite interpretation of Gnomenreigen.

But then again, who can beat Cziffra's anyway!

  • in my opinion the piece and the performance are very great

  • His looks remind me a bit of Glenn Gould.

  • I agree with some things in his perfomance but I Don't agree in some... some pieces are god but some not... for me ...

  • i am with you there in agreeing with some bits and not others... like i felt the opening was a bit dry but i liked his tempo

  • the tempo is perfect

  • too slow!

  • I think slow our grandmather - this interpretation is very good. Its not horse competition - only dance

  • i think it's steinway and sons

  • It's funny that many comments praise Gyorgy, even though this pianist ignores many of Liszt's own pedal markings, especially in the first motif. Gyorgy also fails to convey any excitement or tasteful Romantic rubato; Cziffra's YouTube recording of this piece, on the other hand, is incredibly exciting, beautiful, and much more masterfully Romantic and elegant than this recording here.

  • Cziffra plays too fast for me.

I personally like this recording more.

Why can't people have their own opinions regardless how well a song is played?

  • ...? These ARE our opinions!

  • I know, streek is saying everyones opinions are stupid.

  • Completely agree - Cziffra played this piece beautifully and effortlessly.

  • I'm sceard, cause my tacher gave me this peace! It Is GREAT! I LOVE THAT BOY!!! :))

  • I am not near up to that level yet, but I love this song to death.

    Good luck.

PS: my teacher just gave me Grand Sonata Pathetique.

  • pathetique should be fun... i'm learning the gnomenreigen myself, those damn scales right before the coda are freakin hard to get in sync.

  • Yeah, but I had only played piano for about 3 years, and then quit for 1 1/2 years.

  • do you know where I could grab a score of gnomenreigen? or would it possible for you to send me a copy :)

  • Great performance ! I saw a glimmer of a ST ,so I imagine it's a Steinway.
