@frezdead1 Average price in my area is $1800 and up for new ones. Even the used ones are holding their prices pretty well. Prices vary so much depending on what region you live in I guess.
I love the quote '' everybody has an AR 15 rifle'' how about not! You Americans dont know how lucky you are. I would give my left nut to have one of these, but I live in Australia run by incompetent fags who hate guns. God Bless America!

Great video! I have the SOCOM-16 and competed with it in 3-Gun for a couple of years before deciding to try the DPMS LR-308. I'm sticking with the AR platform for competition, but I can't part with my SOCOM-16.
@cowboyblob I do agree that sticking with the DPMS for competition. The fire controls on the AR just seems better suited for competition. The Socom is such an awesome example of blending old and new technology. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
LOVE the m1a.but what i want to know is if the recoil is manegable? I never shot a gun and im 130 something pounds. Mighti get use to the recoil, does the recoil spring help, will i fly back from each shot, and most importanly is it a good first gun?
@dasdew2 The built in muzzle brake does an excellent job at controlling the muzzle flip. Recoil with this rifle is slightly more than an AR. I would compare it to an AK47. As far as being a first gun, I dont know about that. Its very simple and easy to break down and operate, but for a first gun there may be better options out there.
@KillerXify Yes the AK and the AR are excellent weapons platform. I'm lucky enough to have all three. The AR15 remains to be one of my favorites of all time.
i just ordered a 18in scout in od green stock i wanted to go with the socom but it was more a little more exspensive plus you will get a little more accuracy with 2 inches btw is the 20rd pro mags good?
@jtmoney606 From what I've heard, stay away from the pro mag magazines. Go with something like CMI (Check Mate Industries) or any other current contract making USGI spec magazines. I bought one from Springfield and two from CMI and the CMI mags work just as well as the Springfields.
No suggestions here. I totally agree with you about the top rail and was in the same dilemma. I went with the Troy MCS stock and it solved all my problems. Although it is a bit on the expensive side, to send the rifle into Springfield and have them install a full length rail was actually more expensive than the Troy stock
Good review. I have one myself, and am very pleased with overall performance and accuracy, and agree with all your points. My only complaint up until now is that the top rail does not extend all the way back which prevents one from being able to mount an optic with 3-5" eye relief. Initially I had an eotech 1x on there, which worked well, but now I want to use a magnified scope, which I cannot do. Any suggestions?
Just picked this up today actually. Shot it and love the heavy front. Keeps the rise a little lower. Kick isn't as bad as I thought it'd be either.... And I have to disagree, it's still front heavy.
Nice...I'm looking at one right now. Used. The price is a tad high for a used piece but the shop told me if I pay cash they would be willing to drop the price significantly. It does come with 2 20rd mags, 1 10rd mag and a Aimpoint Comp M3. The Aimpoint alone is pricey so... this would be a nice compliment to my 1911s, haha!
The Socom M1A is nice i almost picked one up myself. i was purchasing a full size Springfield M1A traditional (M14) wood stock which i did purchase but i almost changed my mind when i went to buy it and there was the Socom there and i tell you it was a close one. i figure i will pick one up one day it is a very nice rifle!
I haven't logged back in to youtube in a while, so I just saw your reply to my comment. Larue Tacical, ADM, or Bobro have a some cantilevered mounts that may work for you. With the VLTOR cluster rail already on the gun I don't think I'd be looking to scrap it and go to the Troy chassis. A forward mounted red dot or long eye relief "scout" style scope would be better options IMO.
I bought the S&W M&P 15 before they came out with the SO COM M-14 CA legal and now I want to sell my M&P 15 for the Springfield .Anyone interested in an Smith& Wesson15 shot 400 rnds thru.Ive put about 400$ into the tool plus the 1800 rnds of poppers i have.Note, it is CA.legal which is a joke but it is a cool weapon.paid 1400 USD for.
@TechGunsSportsLOVER I got a pretty good deal on it. I paid $1650 out the door. I think the other shops are asking nearly $1800 for them. Its heavy but still very manageable.
@Biggungobang Hi, from my experience with this rifle, I will have to say that this is one of the most accurate open sight rifles I've ever shot. This is perhaps why I haven't put any sort of optics on it yet. I really like to keep this one as simple and basic as possible. The compensator does a great job at keep muzzle flip down to a minimum. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
If you like the traditional look and feel of the M1A stock I highly recommend an original walnut stock. I recently saw a picture of one and it was drop dead sexy! I have one of these rifles with the extended top rail, I put mine in a Vltor modstock. What can I tell you that you don't already know, it's a shooter! :D
@raven865 I wish I would have bought the one with the extended top rail. It solves a lot of mounting issues I'm facing now. I am looking into the Troy stock right now.
@ThePathfinder71 I really like it so far. I've only had it for a few months, but every time I take it to the range it always puts a smile on my face. Good luck with yours
@Gunsfromholland Here in the US, they are relatively expensive, but not insanely priced as it would be in Europe. I feel fortunate to be able to own one of these and it is so much fun to shoot. Take care and thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Hope all is well with you in Holland!

ommfg!!!! ive wanted one for a time now and i just cant do it!! everytime i get close i buy an ar or 2 ak's!!!!! aaaagh!!!! same problem im having with the scar!!!! but onre day it will happen enjoy man you are a lucky boy cause i have alot of toys but not that one!!! oh man i really wish one would fall out of the sky and into my gun case!!! please dear lord turn one of my ar's into a m1a socom please!!!!!!
@satinwarship lol..wow you really want one dont you? Anyways, I realize that I am fortunate enough to have the ability to own this firearm. I've really enjoyed it and it's accuracy. It really is a hoot to shoot. Good luck and hope your one day comes soon.
That's one nice rifle. Is it shorter than the mil spec version used by the Army back in the day? it might be a tad heavy but in battle its a super quick rifle (so I've heard). .308 in semi auto=im sold.Tax season I'm definitely gettin one. Wise purchase.Cool vid!
@Rock3t138 Hi, thanks for watching. Yes it is shorter than the issued M14. This one has a 16" barrel. Everything else though is basically the same. I've taken it t othe range twice now and it shoots amazing! You will really be suprised at how effecient the muzzle brake is. It really keeps the front down for faster follow up shots. Good luck and keep me updated if you purchase one.
Im looking to buy a 308 combat rifle, but i cant decide wheather to buy the M1A, FAL, or the Kel Tec RFB. Tell me what u guys think and why. Thanks! :)
@xPOSSUM45x I picked up the M1a socom II about a year ago. I love it and it shoots great. The reason for this being my final choice was my good friend Army SF and his father retired Army SF both agree that design and history of the weapons reliability make it the best!
If I was you I would definitely chuck a Leopold VX-3 illuminated on that,I wish the action wasn't directly facing the user at a vertical level but those picatinny rails must help alot.
@fixdeluxe1 its difficult to find a lightweight mount to be able to fit a traditional scope on this. I would surely need some type of reverse cantilever so the scope sits back a bit for correct eye relief.
That's a great rifle you have there.I hear they're popular with SEALs and other US Special Forces because of it's stopping power and accuracy in the semi-automatic function.
I am in currently in the market for a rifle, I dunno if i want the scout squad or the socom II.. i figure if i do get the Scout i'll be looking to the sage stocks, if i go for the socom II i'm leaving it stock... wish i could shoot both
Nice shooting rifle. Excellent design. The only problem I've run into is finding a scope mount. Regular M14 M1A rails wont work because of the top rail. Sage make a picatinny for the stripper guide/ rear sight , haven't found one yet.
@blaquepatriot I'm in the process of finding a optic for it. Not really sure if I want to go with a traditional red dot or a 1x4.5 tactical scope as of yet. It just depends on the mounting options, but with the socom II there seems to be little to none as an option. My friend has the Troy MCS and its not a problem with mounting options since its a continuous top rail. Hopefully in the near future someone will come out with a rear sight mount adaptor for this. Thanks for watching and comment
very nice weapon chanderson. we have the same interest in guns, ive got my 1911, ar-15, and an m-14 is next. Thanks for the great information on all of them.
@KSpenceV I've heard that the best way to go is with the ones directly from Springfield or CMI (checkmate industries), who are the current contractors for the military.
@Mr45Bullitt Bill, I finally had some time on my hands, which is really rare. I thought you might like this rifle. It performed flawlessly at the range and seems like it will be a keeper. Hope you, the family and your cabin in the woods are doing well!
@Miscreant435 My friend has the mini-14 and loves his. Never an issue and pretty much the same type of action, so the reliability is high. Thank you and glad you liked it. Appreciate the time you took to watch and comment!
Nice video. I had a M1 Garand and a M14 (7.62) but I didn't like carrying the M14 all day because it isn't light and it's more of a match rifle. I thought about getting the SA SOCOM to see how a carbine version would feel but it's very expensive. thanks for sharing and congrats on the rifle!
Have one myself and meaning to get to a vid on it. I orginally ran it with the bottom rail section off and the top on. Now I have a JAE-100 stock on it. I love the flex to be able to run a LR optic and a 0x for close quarter work. GREAT rifle that shoots 2 minutes all day long from whereever.
@RobbieGTV Hey man! Haven't heard from you in awhile. Was hoping that everything was okay with you and that business was just booming. I really like the socom rifles. Even though it has the 16" barrel, I think with the right optics on it, you can have the best of both worlds. I'm in the process of looking into some different stocks for this rifle just so I can have different options. Thanks for the comment!
@chanderson1 Yeah man. Just busy but I wrappd some stuff up and I should be able to get back to making a few vids while waiting for trades to fire during the day. I'll get to mine and I'll post it as a vid response asd soon as I can brother. Agreed on the optics. Take care.
I like the scom rifles and would love to have one but I'm more into the look of the standard full lenght barel M1As with the wood stocks. Those are just timeless to me. Won't be getting one anytime soon though...I've spent enough on guns for at least a couple of months...lol
@Apache1974 LOL! I think I've spent my share for the month after buying this thing. I really do appreciate the look of the traditional M1As, but just wanted something a little different. Also we dont see to many of these in the area, so it was kind of cool to have one.
Great looking gun! I know what you mean I go down to my range in south Florida and who doesn't have a AR15 or AK. This is a nice change and very very cool. Hope you do some future videos on it with whatever bells and whistles you add. to be honest I think its pretty bad ass just the way it is. Again great gun great vid.
Beautiful. Unfortunately I dont have anywhere to shoot rifles at this time, so I'll have to stick with pistols. I can shoot my Sig 556 at the indoor range, but that gets old.
Very nice. I will look into one of these when I have somewhere to shoot it. Thanks for sharing.
@DocTacDad Thanks! I think this gun is something you definetly love or hate. I think my tastes are changing since I didnt really like the looks of these when they first came out, but have grown to appreciate it.
I love this gun! I almost bought one a few months ago, but I bought a DSArms-FAL instead. The FAL has 21" barrel-medium profile, and I'm happy I bought it. Maybe when the war chest builds back up I'll take another look at this gun. Good review, I love your videos!!
@wiley086 Thank you! I've only taken this out to the range once, but it was alot of fun. It is really asthetically pleasing to me with the short barrel. It just makes the gun look so mean. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
It is basically a M-14 with a short barrel and rails. I lugged a M-14 around for a year in Nam and they aren't a lite weapon. I bet with that short barrel you get a large mussel blast big ball of fire. Nice video and a even nicer rifle.
@biguy525 First off, thank you for you service and I greatly appreciate it! Yes, i think you described it just right. A short civilian version of the M-14. I know it is the weight of two ARs and I could see how it could be difficult to carry on long patrols especially if you have loaded out mags with you also. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
Nice vid. You will be losing a significant amount of velocity from the .308 with a 16 inch barrel. I prefer a 20 on my precision guns, but went with a Kel Tec RFB with a 18 inch tube for my needs. It shoots .75 MOA or less with the gun in stock form and weighs 8 lbs empty. I am a big fan of the M1A, but the weight, accuracy and cost got me. I would have ended up getting a National Match or Super Match to equal the accuracy of the RFB. One thing about the M1A is it should be utterly reliable.
@derweibhai I agree 100% with you. I would prefer the longer barrel to maintain the velocity, but I really like the looks of this gun with the shorter barrel. I've got other rifles built just for long range, so this rifle will serve for shorter ranges. The cost is relatively comparable to a nicely equipped AR, but I could justify it because you really dont see this gun too much in my area. It has proven to be very reliable so far. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
@derweibhai Actually the FBI did a series of tests that refuted this with 700 actions years ago. This is why you are seeing LE guys running 20s, 18s, and even 16s in 700 rifles now where before they were always 22sand 24s. The loss of velocity at 800M is actually less than 40 FPS at that distance with standard factory match BTHP loads. Plus short is stiffer and can actually improve accuracy.
I saw one the other day but I saw a Ar 15 in 9mm so I pick that one 1st next will be m1a like yours or the 300BLK
luivillslugger 3 days ago

satinwarship 1 year ago
@satinwarship lol..wow you really want one dont you? Anyways, I realize that I am fortunate enough to have the ability to own this firearm. I've really enjoyed it and it's accuracy. It really is a hoot to shoot. Good luck and hope your one day comes soon.
chanderson1 1 year ago
That's one nice rifle. Is it shorter than the mil spec version used by the Army back in the day? it might be a tad heavy but in battle its a super quick rifle (so I've heard). .308 in semi auto=im sold.Tax season I'm definitely gettin one. Wise purchase.Cool vid!
Rock3t138 1 year ago
@Rock3t138 Hi, thanks for watching. Yes it is shorter than the issued M14. This one has a 16" barrel. Everything else though is basically the same. I've taken it t othe range twice now and it shoots amazing! You will really be suprised at how effecient the muzzle brake is. It really keeps the front down for faster follow up shots. Good luck and keep me updated if you purchase one.
chanderson1 1 year ago
@SpeiraCrotalus lol, thanks man! Its been a great shooter so far, I do believe its going to be very reliable.

Im looking to buy a 308 combat rifle, but i cant decide wheather to buy the M1A, FAL, or the Kel Tec RFB. Tell me what u guys think and why. Thanks! :)
xPOSSUM45x 1 year ago
@xPOSSUM45x I picked up the M1a socom II about a year ago. I love it and it shoots great. The reason for this being my final choice was my good friend Army SF and his father retired Army SF both agree that design and history of the weapons reliability make it the best!
avail18 1 year ago
If I was you I would definitely chuck a Leopold VX-3 illuminated on that,I wish the action wasn't directly facing the user at a vertical level but those picatinny rails must help alot.
fixdeluxe1 1 year ago
@fixdeluxe1 its difficult to find a lightweight mount to be able to fit a traditional scope on this. I would surely need some type of reverse cantilever so the scope sits back a bit for correct eye relief.
chanderson1 1 year ago
@chanderson1 Yea so you don't get the shadow and a mis-aligned crosshair.
fixdeluxe1 1 year ago
That's a great rifle you have there.I hear they're popular with SEALs and other US Special Forces because of it's stopping power and accuracy in the semi-automatic function.
fixdeluxe1 1 year ago
@fixdeluxe1 I was informed that the SEALs and SF had a lot of input into this rifle design.
chanderson1 1 year ago
@chanderson1 That's good,because they generally know what they're doing.

I am in currently in the market for a rifle, I dunno if i want the scout squad or the socom II.. i figure if i do get the Scout i'll be looking to the sage stocks, if i go for the socom II i'm leaving it stock... wish i could shoot both
nyli81 1 year ago
@nyli81 those sage stocks will run you in the
range of 600-700 dollars.
additionally, their heavy as sin and yes,
ive had experience.
the extra weight does negate the recoil to almost nothing,
but the muzzle brake on the socom II does a
fantastic job at that in its own right.
personally, id just go with the socom II
unless you've just got to have the pistol grip.
tactically, you wont gain much.
TandyRunsThis 1 year ago
Nice shooting rifle. Excellent design. The only problem I've run into is finding a scope mount. Regular M14 M1A rails wont work because of the top rail. Sage make a picatinny for the stripper guide/ rear sight , haven't found one yet.
Excellent Video.
blaquepatriot 1 year ago
@blaquepatriot I'm in the process of finding a optic for it. Not really sure if I want to go with a traditional red dot or a 1x4.5 tactical scope as of yet. It just depends on the mounting options, but with the socom II there seems to be little to none as an option. My friend has the Troy MCS and its not a problem with mounting options since its a continuous top rail. Hopefully in the near future someone will come out with a rear sight mount adaptor for this. Thanks for watching and comment

Qasarean 1 year ago
@Qasarean If you really want something like this, I would suggest getting the socom 16 and a Sage EBR stock, they look awesome together.
chanderson1 1 year ago
Have one myself and meaning to get to a vid on it. I orginally ran it with the bottom rail section off and the top on. Now I have a JAE-100 stock on it. I love the flex to be able to run a LR optic and a 0x for close quarter work. GREAT rifle that shoots 2 minutes all day long from whereever.
RobbieGTV 1 year ago
@RobbieGTV Hey man! Haven't heard from you in awhile. Was hoping that everything was okay with you and that business was just booming. I really like the socom rifles. Even though it has the 16" barrel, I think with the right optics on it, you can have the best of both worlds. I'm in the process of looking into some different stocks for this rifle just so I can have different options. Thanks for the comment!
chanderson1 1 year ago
@chanderson1 Yeah man. Just busy but I wrappd some stuff up and I should be able to get back to making a few vids while waiting for trades to fire during the day. I'll get to mine and I'll post it as a vid response asd soon as I can brother. Agreed on the optics. Take care.

Great vid
I like the scom rifles and would love to have one but I'm more into the look of the standard full lenght barel M1As with the wood stocks. Those are just timeless to me. Won't be getting one anytime soon though...I've spent enough on guns for at least a couple of months...lol
Apache1974 1 year ago
@Apache1974 LOL! I think I've spent my share for the month after buying this thing. I really do appreciate the look of the traditional M1As, but just wanted something a little different. Also we dont see to many of these in the area, so it was kind of cool to have one.
chanderson1 1 year ago

I love this gun! I almost bought one a few months ago, but I bought a DSArms-FAL instead. The FAL has 21" barrel-medium profile, and I'm happy I bought it. Maybe when the war chest builds back up I'll take another look at this gun. Good review, I love your videos!!
wiley086 1 year ago
@wiley086 Thank you! I've only taken this out to the range once, but it was alot of fun. It is really asthetically pleasing to me with the short barrel. It just makes the gun look so mean. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
chanderson1 1 year ago
I think a grip-pod and a non magnifying red dot optic will serve you accuracy

This rifle is awesome!!!!! My cousin uses one, hes in MARSOC, Automatic 308, you can really ruin somones day with that.
EMAN300 1 year ago
@EMAN300 The .308 round was one of the main deciding factors for me with this rifle. They are as cheap or even cheaper than .223 rounds lately.

ICWWEVERYDAY 1 year ago
It is basically a M-14 with a short barrel and rails. I lugged a M-14 around for a year in Nam and they aren't a lite weapon. I bet with that short barrel you get a large mussel blast big ball of fire. Nice video and a even nicer rifle.
biguy525 1 year ago
@biguy525 First off, thank you for you service and I greatly appreciate it! Yes, i think you described it just right. A short civilian version of the M-14. I know it is the weight of two ARs and I could see how it could be difficult to carry on long patrols especially if you have loaded out mags with you also. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
chanderson1 1 year ago
I keep debating whether or not I want a M1a or a FNAR. I think I want an FNAR, but really want one of these one day!
matt4macs 1 year ago
Finnish it out with the Vltor Stock it's already got the Vltor rails.
rivemor 1 year ago
One thing about the M1A is it should be utterly reliable.
derweibhai 1 year ago
@derweibhai I agree 100% with you. I would prefer the longer barrel to maintain the velocity, but I really like the looks of this gun with the shorter barrel. I've got other rifles built just for long range, so this rifle will serve for shorter ranges. The cost is relatively comparable to a nicely equipped AR, but I could justify it because you really dont see this gun too much in my area. It has proven to be very reliable so far. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
chanderson1 1 year ago
@derweibhai Actually the FBI did a series of tests that refuted this with 700 actions years ago. This is why you are seeing LE guys running 20s, 18s, and even 16s in 700 rifles now where before they were always 22sand 24s. The loss of velocity at 800M is actually less than 40 FPS at that distance with standard factory match BTHP loads. Plus short is stiffer and can actually improve accuracy.
