  • Well, everything isnt truly human in the idea of Evangelion. Because humans are technicaly the 18th angels. Like misato explained in the end of evangelion, humans are angels that just have taken a differenet path than the other angels trying to reach Lilith. And rei herself is more of a shell that Gendo Ikari created, using the soul of lilith, while kawaru is the soul of Adam.

  • Rei I probably embodies the "angelic" qualities of Lilith, the Second Angel. After she died, they stored that essence into Unit-00.

Rei II embodies Lilith without "half" of her soul, similar to what happened to Asuka's Mother. Because Lilith is still human in a way, Rei can still exist and function in life...more or less, without her other half.

Apparently, when Rei-II and Unit-00 was destroyed, Rei III reintegrated her two halves to transcend her previous limitations...

  • Is Rei I the little girl, and Rei II the one in most of the series until she kills herself, replacing her body with Rei III the one in the movie?

  • @TheNEWfilmfanatic99 pretty sure the third Rei came before the movie.

  • @UTAU53Yui So there could be a fourth Rei? And that her betraying Gendo's wishes is similar to adolesence and growing up (even if she is the same age)?

  • @TheNEWfilmfanatic99 Uhh....yeah??

  • The difference in the contents of the heads of Rei II and Rei III are pretty astonisging.

  • oooooooo tsssssss

  • I just think that Rei is perpetually baked beyond recognition at all times.

  • Personally I think it's a very beautiful yet troubling scene.

  • This is just about psychadelic. Wow. Watch enough of this and you'll be a basketcase. This series' creator must have had some serious social issues or mental instabilities. guhh...

It is interesting to reflect upon though; the more funmental nature of things beyond and underneath the physical manifestation. It almost reminds me of Plato's Cave analogy. One of the reasons I love Evengelion. But, like I said, too much of this kind of thought and you begin to seriously lose touch with reality.

  • The creator must have had some serious social issues or mental instabilities?

I will not even bother to go in-depth about what what i think of your idiotic opinions on what you just said!

  • Ok... well then don't comment at all.

If you disagree then you are wrong. Hideaki Anno suffered from severe depression and social alienation prior to the making of the series. He weaved his personal struggle and resolution into the different aspects of the characters' interactions.

If you're not going to back up your insults with information then just don't talk at all.

  • i think that rei is one o the best carachters ever, but she is one psicological twisted girl, thats true

  • nice vid....but why are people attracted to Rai? she seemed so cold and unemotional the entire series..... afterall, shes a clone.

  • to say the truth, i dont know....but as one guy said, theres no words to describe Rei. And thats all i can say

  • @ImSoJohnDeleted People are attracted to Rei because she is a sympathetic character. She is constantly deppressed, and while Rei II tries to understand Humanity, Rei III wants to die so she can return to nothingness. Either way they both are lonely characters, and this makes people want to feel for them. Also, on the subject of being unemotional, Hideki Anno said Rei is not emotionless but merely expressionless, and doesn't know how to potray her feelings.

  • And for today you existed...

  • I find it kind of intresting that in Rei's mind, her 'Mini-me' represents her dark side.

  • You'll find that in a lot of anime. Haibane-Renmei is just one other, where Reki's 'inner child' manifests itself as stone inside her Nightmare Room

  • "It smells like Ikari."

I don't think anything sums up what she thinks better than that.

  • please explain, please

  • What I mean is that Rei is able to see beyond the physical representation of the world, is more intune with the thoughts and feelings of the unconscious mind that she doesn't give a thought to the smaller things everyone else is preoccupied; greed, money, lust, friendship. She is content with how she views the world - cold and hostile.

  • shes talking about infinite awareness google infinite awareness

  • lol i love rei also so cute but more cute if smiling

  • Really? i find Rei to be rather...ugly when she smiles

  • i cancer

  • I like rei im a big fan of rei so does anyone know an anime character like rei in a diffrent anime if so plz comment me back i would really appreciate it

  • Yuki Nagato from the Melancholy of Haruhi could practically be her clone.

    Clone of a clone DURHUR.

  • -_-

  • Bad dub is bad.

  • I love the english version better than the one in spanish or japanese

  • get out, Japanese voice shows more emotion, I know English voice actors did their best but still

  • You didn't take into account that when translating anime, the English also has to match the movements of the mouth also, quineg? That is why most people find dubs to be so bad.

  • Yeah. Their both done good. Its a language. give it up.

  • what does she say at 3:06-3:07? I can't tell, does anyone know?

  • Rei 2: "No, you an empty shell with a false soul created by a man named Gendo Ikari, You are just an object that is pretending to be a human. Look deep within yourself. Do you perceive the almost intangible and invisible presence that lurks below your waking self? Inside your darkest dreams, it is there your true identity lies."

    Hope this helps!

    --Dancougar82

  • Thankyou! ^^ I figured it out after looping that section and continuously listening to it, But thanks for the generosity!

  • "It is there that your true identity lies."

  • fucking english.....

the voice of rei in japaneese is so much better

  • you are probably japanese or a japanese wanna be to say that, anyway I love elfen lied is one of my favorite animes

  • English voice actors do their best. by the time this got around to dubbing, gainax was almost bankrupt anyways. Give them a break

  • heavy stuff...

  • fucking english!

  • no I prefer the english version than the japanese one

  • JAPANESE VOICE IS SO MUCH BETTER!

  • /watch?v=LLWk3icnl4M

  • i thought rei ayanami was a quiet person?

  • she is. watch the anime. ^__^

  • Anyone have a script of this?

  • Mountains. Heavy are the mountains, but that changes with the passage of time.

Sky, blue sky. What your eyes can't see. What your eyes can see.

    The Sun. One, only one.

Water. It is agreeable. Commander Ikari...

Flowers. So many the same. So many without purpose.

  • Sky. Sky of red. Red the color, the color I hate.

The liquid flows, it drips, ripples and pours.

Blood. Scent of blood. A woman who does not bleed.

From the red soil the humans come.

Humans made by man and woman.

    City, a human creation.

Eva, a human creation as well.

What are humans? Are they creations of God?

Humans, that which is created by humans.

This is that which is mine, my life, my heart. I am a vessel for my thoughts.

  • The Entry Plug, a throne for the soul.

Who is this? This is me.

Who am I? What am I? What am I? What am I?

I am I. This object that is, is myself. That which forms, is me.

This is the self that can be seen, and yet this is not like that which is myself.

A strange feeling. My body feels as if it is melting.

I can no longer see myself. My form, my shape fades from view.

Awareness dawns of someone who is not me.

Who is here, there, beyond me here?

  • Shinji?

This person I know, Major Katsuragi.

    Doctor Akagi.

    People, my classmates.

    The pilot of Unit Two.

    Commander Ikari?

    Who are you?

    Who are you?

    Who are you?

  • REI ROCKS!!! XD!!!!

  • rei is so awesome!! this is great!

  • Rei's poem is beautiful...

  • great, this is one of all the parts of evangelion that i love, this anime is one of the best...:)

  • The first part is really the first irrefutable sign within the series that we're dealing with something far more than a giant robot show; the clip from Episode 25 gives us (the viewers) a whole lot to think about, especially when juxtaposed with the corresponding events in "The End of Evangelion".

Both of them together reveal Rei to be a much more complex and multilayered character than she is often given credit for. Kudos on uploading them, although the video quality is somewhat lacking.

  • well of course. this anime's about a decade old. XD

  • isnt it sad that no one comments on this awesome video?
