  • I've found, with Red Heart, the different colors will have different weights... thicker or thinner. It seems like the darker the color, the thicker the yarn. It's a slight difference but over the length of project, it will show up differently.

  • I'm super confused on thumb round one.. Where did you attach yarn.. Eekkk

  • Hi teresa! I love this video ive made six pair for my family and friends considerng ive got lots snow where I am anyways lol I was wonderng if i could make a request if you could make a chid size video based on the mittens thanks!!!

  • lol No thats not it at all! it would be if you used a different type of yarn (Not a different color). In odor for your work to not come out the same you must have made one mitten stickers tighter then the other. People tend to make tight stickers in the beginning then they get loser because you get the hang out it and working with a new pattern. Next time pay more attention to how tight/lose you are working.

  • @dannelllys4117 Different colors of the same brand come out in different sizes. It has happened to me many different times.

  • Hi, Teresa, I was wondering, how can I make baby mittens?

  • im lost :( i really want to learn how to do mittens but i always mess upp

  • This video kinda hurt my eyes,, not sure why...?...lol

  • Hiii, i know its a pretty silly question but i get so frustrated with crochet sometimes that i really have to ask haha, when you are putting the hook through the single crochet stiches to yarn over, are you going behind the "v" or through the middle? i couldn't work it out :( you videos are amazing by the way, i would have given up long ago if it wasnt for your tutorials :)

  • another question: i made 12 stitches with my biggest hook, and it's only 3 inches :( but i want to use this yarn i have. what should i do? Is the mitten gonna be too small?

  • Hello!

How much yarn do I need for this? 50g-100g? Thanks!

  • I was just browsing through your videos. I'm glad I listened to the beginning of this one. Your note on how different yarns can bring out a different outcome was informative. I made a kingston hat following your video. The first hat came out perfecto. When I made the second hat, it was gimongous. And even though I used a smaller needle and tried to eliminate a row or two, the third hat came out too big too. I thought I was going nuts :) Thank you for all of your wonderful videos.

  • @autumnssummerville You are welcome. You may need to eliminate more increase rounds with your hat. Keep practicing and you will get it.

  • Hi Teresa, do you turn the mitten inside out when your done?? My half-done mitten looks like yours..... but on the inside, oops :) lol

  • @kingvito2 This is the front side of my work. You can use the inside if you think it looks better.

  • Do you have a tutorial of mittens that can flip up? HTanks

  • Teresa I began teaching myself to crochet mid-August 2011. I cannot fully express how much of a Godsend your tutorial videos are! You are an amazing instructor! Thank you for all you do!!!

  • @leely40 You are so kind, thank you.

  • Could you please show us how to do mittens for kids in double crochet? I really would like to know how to crochet mittens.

    thank you.

  • what size hook do you use for children mittens for a 18 months old a 9 month old?

  • I just recently began Crocheting again and I am really IMPRESSED by how simple u make your videos for us Beginners..so I'd like to say "THANK YOU" very much..

  • I like your videos. Would you be able to do a video making toddler sized mittens w/ thumbs. Pretty please!

  • Can you use alternative stitches to this pattern like a double crochet or shell stitch???

  • Teresa doll!

i need help. I LOVE the videos...recently took up crocheting again from when i was a teen, but i need help for some reasons on the mittens, every pair i have made so far i end up with 20 SC when starting my round 2, where am i messing up do u think? or is it okay to do it with 20? LOVE the videos tho! made my nephew a hat mittens and scarf and sis in law a pair of mitts:)

  • do you have a tutorial for baby/toddler mittens?

  • wow! Teresa! thank you soo much for this video and taking the time from start to finish!! your a very good teacher! keep up with your awesome work! p.s ur stiching is amazing!!! thanks!

  • can you make a new one that is slower for a begener all i know how to do is a chain stich thanks

  • @tjw1963 thank you so much Teresa, i love your videos! i've been crocheting since i was about 9 or 10 years old, but always just simple things like double crochet scarfs and hair bun holders. but recently since i found your videos i have made sooo many things (: i love the mittens especially (:

  • thank you!! i re-did it and i know where i messed up, opps! (:

  • @JillyMarieee Glad you got it fixed. Don't be hard on yourself. Messing up is part of learning.

  • helloe there (: is there a difference between making a left hand mitten and right hand mitten? i have just finished making my first ever which fits my left hand perfectly but when i try it on my right to see if it's the same it doesn't feel right because the thumb hole isn't over enough :( help? pleasee?

  • @JillyMarieee They both should be the same

  • I made a few mittens already.. I love ur videos..I love ur work..

  • @thatchicka4 Thank you.

  • hi teresa, i just wanted to ask that if i wanted a smaller width for the mittens across my palm then what should i do? can you pls let me know, thanks

  • @smichelle71 This is not a tutorial that a beginner should be working on. You should learn the basic stitches first and they try an easier project.

  • Very confusing. Video seems to be either too slow or too fast.

  • Hi Teresa, It only took me 6 tries to get these right LOL!! I did it!! Do you have a pattern for toddler-childern size??? I see you have thumbless ....could I just add a thumb on the 4ply pattern and make it for a toddler or child??/

    Thank you!!!!!

    Kelly

  • Hi Teresa, It only took me trues to get these right LOL!! I did it!! Do you have a pattern for toddler-childern size??? I see you have thumbless ....could I just add a thumb on the 4ply pattern and make it for a toddler or child??/

  • Finally someone does an instruction video from beginning to end. The only thing I didn't understand was the foundation sc. I haven't heard of this before.

  • i would just like to thank you very much for you videos. i am a total beginner and got bored of doing scarves! but when i went looking for different patterns they were in code! so i didn't know what they were saying. ur videos have allowed me to make other things like the sock slippers and mittens, and i have learnt different stitches. so that you so much. XXX

  • hai teresa; i am regular viewer of your channel for last 3 months. i am very happy. i made teddy bear, butterfly, pouch.i wondered after finishing the product. thank u so so much

  • @nashaji2 You have been very busy crocheting! Please share a video response of your work!

  • i love all your work! could you make five finger gloves for both adult and child?

  • Is the first stitch in each round supposed to shift to the right? I'm on row 16, where the thumb hole is, but my first stitch is supposed to be in the middle of the glove. If I made the hole right there, the thumb would be in the middle of the palm. Did I do something wrong?

  • hi im a fan of your work..... thank you so much for all your videos and tutorials, im learning a lot from you.... i like to know if you have some videos about how to knit gloves with fingers thank you, i really apreciate it, you are awesome.....

  • So I'm done with the normal crocheting. But I am unsure how to do a slip stitch. Do I just cut it off then make a slip stitch like what you would do in the middle of a piece?

  • @KichiTyph I have a video I will send to you, that show how to attach a new strand of yarn with a slip stitch.

  • I feel so dumb, but I have done the foundation, and now I am on the first round. When you say 3 single stitches for the first stitch, what do you mean? I'm really confused.

  • @KichiTyph You are working 3 stitches in the same stitch.

  • @kellypinklily You will modify the pattern and work less stitches at the thumb segment.

  • Thank you for the video def helped me

I was wondering if you could give me the pattern for a smaller mitten (for a toddler/2yr old) I'm not sure how to convert it? thank you kindly

  • @kellypinklily Thank you! I hope you have a happy and safe new year!

  • Do you have a video to crotchet mittens for children?

  • Tjw1963 well I am having trouble with rounds 3 to 8 as you said that I might be adding extra stitches I am just a little confused to fix that Thanks so much !!!!!!

Ps. You are an awesome person that is good at crocheting

  • @ILOVEWEBKINZ80 If you are wanting to add to the width, you will work increase stitches, 2 sc in the same stitch maybe 3 or 4 times evenly around. If you want to make it longer, you will continue with more rounds.

  • @tjw1963 Thanks so I am not really sure how to fix that any way ?

  • @ILOVEWEBKINZ80 What are we fixing?

  • @kellypinklily You can't give her just one glove, lol! That would be pretty funny though!

  • @kellypinklily Yes, sounds like you have the general idea on how to do the decrease. Once you have pulled up the two loops you pull the yarn through both from the backside to join them in to one stitch.

  • @tjw1963 what is not forming right is round 3 to 8 and it's not forming like a mitten and comes out big

  • @ILOVEWEBKINZ80 It sounds like you may have some extra increase stitches if it is to large.

  • Thanks for replying what is not forming right is the round 3 to 8 it's coming to big and not forming the shape the way you have it Thanks!

  • Thanks for the reply what's not forming right is when the round 3 to 8 it turns out big and does not come out the way you do it Thanks!!

  • Hi I am having alot of trouble making this mitten I am using a size h crochet hook and it does not seem to be forming right then I tried a size g and it still does not do good can you please help me with this please reply Thanks!

  • @ILOVEWEBKINZ80 What is not forming right and on what round?

  • I don't have an I needle, could I use a J?

  • @arlinedelvalle Yes you can use a size J crochet hook. They will be a little bit larger.

  • I don't have an I needle, could I use a J?

  • What's a size I crochet? Mine says 7mm, is that the same thing? Btw, great tutorial! Am completing my set of scarf and beanie by doing these mittens :) Can't wait to be finished, it's already below 0 decrees Celsius here! D:

  • @TweetyRock1 Size I is a 5.5mm

  • i LOVE you videos but i am having alot of trouble with these mittens :( plz help!!!!

  • @smittyemi QWhat are the problems you are having?

  • Do you think these would turn out for my son (11 months) if I use a smaller hook. He has very tiny hands, but I really want to make him some mittens...and I haven't found any patterns for baby mittens (other than fingerless). Thanks.

  • @kwizsica I think these crochet mittens may turn out to large for a baby, even if you are using a smaller hook. You can give it a try and see what happens. If you do, please report back with the results.

  • Are these warm? I want warm mittens this year. Frozen fingers are -so- inconvenient. :D

  • @Ghostnightshadows They are warm as long as you are not throwing snowballs and getting your hands wet.

  • I agree with nottooshabby907, I am completely confused. I can't get the foundation stitch right. Can you help me please?

  • @bklynshel1 You can work a chain instead of the foundation stitches.

  • YOU ARE A CROCHET DIVA, WITH YOUR HELP I'VE MADE MITTENS THAT EVERYONE IS ASKING ME WHERE DIDI I GET THEM FROM:-)

  • @Poohgirl1 Thank you, I appreciate the comment.

  • i alwys subcribe to you thank you

  • can you please send me a email for the contest for july 23 and augest to show my parents that im in the contest you are awsome thank you so much

  • @nottooshabby907 I sent you a link for the foundation stitch or you can just work a chain with single crochet.

  • Thank you so much you have help me a lot with all crochet thing

  • @kerrysister439 You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • I sure do appreciate you posting these tutorials, they're so much easier to learn from than a book of patterns!

  • HELP!! HI...I watch your videos all the time and as a brand new crocheter they are amazing and so helpful! I found a pattern for mittens from another website and am trying it for the 1st time. I'm stuck!! I need to know what this means....ch-1 sp.!!!! I can't go to the next step.... )-:

  • Chain 1 space

  • Thank you so much for your videos - I have learned SO much from you! Do you have a video for children's mittens? (or any tips on making them smaller?)

    Thanks again!

  • I do not have a pattern right now for child size. One of the easiest ways to make a pattern smaller is to use a smaller crochet hook.

  • @tjw1963 do u have a video for this children size if so please send me the video thanks!

  • I want to make mittens so bad and I love your patterns because they're so easy to read but I'm having a hard time with the joining of the first round to start the second round.

  • Ms, you are ridculously talented.

    Like OMG, crochet angel, man

  • hi teresa, i love this pattern for adults, but how can i alter it to fit a child 5-7 years old? is it just a matter of chaining less in the first row? any tips greatly appreciated.

  • I'm working on making some for a child, and they're coming out the right size.

I'm using *very* thin yarn, and a size 5mm hook.

I made a mistake starting off, and had a few extra stitches, but it turned out they were necessary - would have been too small had I only had what's stated in the video, so I'm sure they'd come out small enough for a 5-7 year old munchkin ;o)

  • Thank you so much for all of your tutorials! You have the best ones I have ever seen! Please keep them coming! You rock!!<3

  • You are welcome. Thank you for the comment.

  • I totally agree with you.

Teresa, you do have the best tutorials by far.

  • i know! pink red heart yarn crochets looser then white red heart!

  • hello, i love your tutorials. i have made several of your things. I am excited to make this one. I greatly appreciate you taking the time out to teach your patterns. I have been crocheting for at least 20 years but was never taught to read patterns. So I love that you to the written blogs to. have a great day!!! Thanks again :)

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you. Happy crocheting. :)

  • thanks very much for this, i've made a beanie and two pairs of mittens following your tutorials and everyone in my office thinks they're great, a few have even asked me to make them some! very much appreciate what you've done!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • I'm going to make these mittens tonight in burgundy. Thanks so much for your tutorials. I began crocheting about a year and a half ago. I'm a teacher so I can now give my students nice hats (as a hats off for good work award) or gloves of love (mittens) when they have been the top student of the week. These little gifts sure beat candy and are appreciated by the families. Thanks a million for your help, without these tutorials I would not be able to make these little rewards for my students.

  • Thank you for your service teaching the new generation of children. What a great way to reward students. Lucky kids. I appreciate the comment.

  • thanks for having the tutorial up! i'm teaching myself how to crochet and this vid helps immensly.

question, what size needle should be used for this project? i keep missing it at the beginning .

  • I am using a size I/5.5mm crochet hook. I also provide written details on my crochet blog which is posted to the right of the video under "More Info".

  • Teresa, your tutorial videos are amazing. It is a great experience to follow your instructions.

  • Thank you. :)

  • I am almost jealous. If you crochet, you can complete a pair of mittens in about an hour. if you knit, it takes about an hour for 1. it all comes down to which is warmer....

  • The repeated rounds are not all shown in the video so it would probably take about an hour to make 1 mitten.

  • When i Knit , in between the sticks . the string is getting longer and longer. i thought i might have done it too loose so i pull it then it becoz=mes too tight. and what is the difference w=bettween crochet and knitting?

  • Crochet is used with a single crochet hook. Knitting needles have a point on the end. You use 2 needles to knit.

  • thanx for ur reply. but i was doing something called thge knit stitch. but for some reason i keep having spare yarn in between when i finished the first row. can u tell me y? i dnt knw who to ask. thanx

  • I do not know what you mean by spare yarn. The only thing that comes to mind is crocheting to loose.

  • o my. this is gonna take me ages to load. its been 10 minutes and ive loaded only 2 minutes of the video. is there any other way of learning? i dont understand the 'wording' of the writtne instructions either =S thanx

  • This video is about 34 minutes long so it will take a while to learn. I do have the basic crochet stitches, which are smaller file sizes if that is what you are looking for.

  • WHOA WHOA WHOA way to fast im so confused!!! how do u do that first stich?!? that foundation thingy? i only know how to do one stich and thats it. i dont know wat its called but its super easy :)

  • im working on my mittens now and i stopped at row 16! I wanted to and a different color how do i do that ?

  • If you are working the continual round you will skip 1 stitch, then slip stitch in the next to even the round out. Cut your yarn, secure it, then attach a new color and continue crocheting to the instructions. If you want to continue with the continual round, you will not join in your beginning stitch and continue to crochet.

  • i love your videos, they are easy to follow... could you make videos for making shrug or jacket perhaps.....? next time again... thanks a lot

  • Thank you. :)

  • Just wanted to put it out there, that the reason why the brown crocheted up a little larger is because darker yarns tend to be a little thicker, because darker dyes are heavier.

At least that's what this book I read told me.

    Thanks for the video!

  • Thank you for sharing. That is something important to keep in mind when choosing yarn.

  • I can hardly wait to make these mittens! Thanks!

  • You are welcome.

  • you are a knitting god

  • Thank you. :)

  • LoL too bad she is crocheting huh?

  • My husband calls it knitting.

  • my mom call's it knitting to and i get really bad and i say that it is crocheting

i really love to crocheting alot i have been doing it for allmost a year i started in octtober and it is really fun

  • @thehoundsfox crochet..

  • OMG! Please don't ever remove this video! I have been looking for mittens or instructions to making some for a couple of years now. I've even tried to pay someone to make me a pair, but you can't find nice warm mittens in the stores anymore for adults. Thank you!

  • You are welcome. I never plan to removing any video.

  • on round 17(the thumb opening)at the end of the round instead of 32 stitches i got 30 stitches i think it is because when i have to skip two single crochet but to i'm not sure but is it ok to just increase because i really need your help and am i doing anything wrong? because i followed your instructions

  • I worked in 2 extra stitches for 32. You will be able to ease them in right at the opening. I wanted to keep the fullness around the thumb and lower portion of the hand. I have edited my written instructions to include the 2 stitches.

  • thank you for the video i will try to make the mittens and post it online once i'm done. i'm sure i can follow your video. i'm so happy can't wait to start

  • You are welcome. :)

  • I think that theses viedo,s are great

when do you think you will do the fingerless

gloves. thanks for your help sjb

  • You are welcome. :)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Thank you so much. I have just starting crocheting last month and I have no problem following the instruction. You make it so easy to understand. Thank you again! :)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. I have searched the internet high and low for awhile for a video, cd-rom, or evn a dvd on how to crochet adult mittens and gloves and found nothing. I learn things alot easier visually. This is definitely going to be added to my favorites!

  • You are welcome. I am going to see what I can come up with for gloves and possibly fingerless gloves.

  • Awesome Thanks! Happy Holidays!

  • These look really cosy Teresa..I am going to have a go! Just right for the cold weather we are having here in Beijing :)

    Thank you!

  • You are welcome. :)
