Probably hit part of an old hole and sent shrapnel through, which penetrated the jugs. I say this because the first two rounds had no affect on the soft targets behind your barrier. Would be best to re-test with an unmolested piece of steel.
i shot a metal plate that was 1in. thick at 50 yards and it did better than what was shown with your thinner piece of metal.it should have went all the way throught your piece of metal.i still think it was the ammo being used.i was using the ammo i got from cheaper than dirt which is russian 122gr. fmj 7.62x39mm at $3.59 a box and don't let the price full you this is some good, hot ammo and penetrates metal very well.i think you should try some of this $3.59 a box ammo you'll be amazed with it.
was your ammo copper jacketed or bi-metal? bi-metal meaing that it's a metal jacket with copper plating, wolf i believe made a copper only jacket and also a bi-metal jacket offering in the 7.62x39mm.your box should say or you can just see if a magnet will stick to your bullet.if you no longer have this ammo or the box then i would really like to see you do this again with a new piece of steel and also show the box that your ammo came in or have a magnet handy to see if it sticks to your bullet.
Dont be too dissappointed. Keep in mind, that your I-Beam structural steels sample is much tougher than ordinary mild steel plate, its in the middle of mild steel plate and hard armor plate... soft pine wood is alot different than hard oak wood, so is the same with different alloys of steel. Just something to keep in mind when testing terminal balistics on steel.
@woodlandcammo27 5.56 and 7.62x51 Nato made those other holes at 100 yards and 175 yards. The 7.62x39 did not go though at 100 yards or 50 yards if you watch the end of the video.
Interesting test. I could see the last shot you fired go through that rather large hole in the center. That is a big chunk of steel so I wouldn't be too disappointed if I were you. It takes quite a bit to poke a hole throught that. Thanks for posting the test. Your vids are fun to watch.

Was a good shot actually. Right through an old hole. Maybe try a new piece of steel for the test. What punched those other holes? Closer range?
