  • wish i was there:-/....luv the music at 1:17

  • "In the end she will surely know, i wasnt born to follow"

Vroammmmmmmmmmmmm

  • One of the best Songs ever landed on this Planet.

  • Moshpith-I am with you whole heartedly. There is nothing to compare with those times.I was up and running round the country wehn I w as about 15, 1969. The world was a wonderous thing,..until the 90s.It all rolled up and died. Now you cant just pull over and camp for the nite, cant sleep the nite in your car on the way to wherever, nothing.

  • i listen to this but i also love many modern artists and their music

  • I managed to sneak in to see 'Easy Rider' under age in England when it first was released(not 'easy'!) and ended up living in New Orleans for the last 30+ years...was I overly influenced????!

  • AND SHE WILL LEARN I WAS NOT BORN TO FOLLOW

  • :( embedding disabled.. So cant youtuberepeat it.. AAARG

  • This song is so pleasurable to hear .

  • guys, please. The modern day crap. Don't you think that thinking that is a little short minded? Don't you think your parents said the same thing about this music? A lot of beautiful music has been made, and beautiful music is being made still... Everyone has their own memories and feelings related to different songs and times, I don't think anyone can say theirs is better. I agree that a lot of the music created today is crap, but there are still some great artists out there..

  • Great song and a movie that captured it's time. Another movie that captures the '60s is Medium Cool. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

  • We are in 2012 and i still thinking, that song is better than the modern crap!

  • It was in the late 1980s as a young teen this film & The Graduate helped me delve deeper into rock music & films like this.

  • .(lyric quote)

That really have no value in the end she will surely know

    I wasn't born to follow.

    (end of quote).

  • I remember "The Peace "....all friends and love...

  • Man, why the hell had I have to be born in 1990?

  • @Fido1488 Maybe you should ask your parents.

  • @Fido1488

    Not a bad thing.

You'll be around far after many of us are listening to this in another place, along with those who wrote it, and maybe hear them play it again.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • Great song! Thanks for the lyrics!

  • Weather permitting, I'd like to spend some pre-Christmas time doing this. Merry Christmas 2011 to all. Long may you run, Dennis (RIP).

  • One reason why the music of the 50s, 60s and the dreaded 70s have stood the test of time is because the guys really could play and write intelligent lyrics.

Even though most of these guys had one is referred to now as " substance abuse issues."

Alot of the guys were classically trained musicians. Having mastered 3,4 or more instruments.

They were high school graduates. They were well read often attending college. And they perfected their craft by playing live.

  • 33 people don´' live the life

  • i think its common that people of my age, 20 years and up, connect more to this music than anything that is coming out these days

  • das wars doch..die 70er

  • but i do love this music to

  • im sorry but my generation has coldplay, sheepdogs, radiohead, U2, the strokes, arcade fire need i go on?

  • @kilroywuzhere1

Nope, just get back to us in another 20 years see how those bands are remembered )-; !

  • nice nice, and i agree music nowadays sucks, but there is hope!!! bands like band of horses, libertines, babyshambles, spiritual beggars... they show what was said long ago ROCK N ROLL WILL NEVER DIE

  • We live in the wrong era ppl

  • how could 32 people dislike this?my fav song in movie&beautiful photography in this scene.the hitch hiker was a dick though-he was all "I'm a hippie,I live on a comune, love ur brother, everyone's equal, etc.",but he treated Billy like shit, and had those ridiculous 'guards' like he was king or something.glad they showed how some of those "hippies" r-if ur not one of them,ur not good enough-total hypocrites(i've seen this type alot&glad they included a character like this).best movie soundtrack evr!

  • Freedom Man! That's what it was all about. One hell of a track. I never tire of it. Peace brothers.

  • well i like it.... but I think another version is also very great. if you want you can search for: wasnt born to follow george dorn quintet . please try! :)

  • She visited a USA POW camp and one of the guys passed her a not to tell his family he was alive. She took it to the Viet Cong camp commander.

  • @dergrossen That is false info, regarding her giving up the prisoners note. PURE BS, but worked for 40 years and counting. Her attempt at civilian peace talks failed, but no worse than official ones. They wasted 5 years arguing about the shape of table. 5 YEARS.

Check into allegations about McCain in the camps. Favored and may have turned to save his butt. Yeh, that story lives on too. Grain of salt man, let it go.

  • Peter Fonda with his Old Glory..the USA flag..on his helmet. Maybe he has more moral spine than his sister Jane who fraternised with the enemy and probably sent a few young USAers to hellish death. Many of us will never forget that.

  • @dergrossen She is not one of my favorites but how did she send US soldiers to a hellish death?

  • I think I'm in heaven!

  • My favorite of all the songs the Byrds did!

  • I am a 15 years old This is my fave movie along with Led Zeppelin The Song Remains The same I love to watch those movies stoned I know almost every band from the late 60's and 70's and i also use vinyl not CD's and I don't follow today's trend or listen to today's "Music".

  • @TheRockandroll420 the 32 dislikes of this video are from christians. This movie sent a devastating message: USING DRUGS AND ALCOHOL IS COOL. ugggh the Devil allways one step forward

  • Cool band.

  • Very good song....!!!

  • damm ur un -embed option

  • WOW PANHEAD HARLEYS CHOPPERS MADE BY THE GRIZZLY ADAMS ACTOR

  • Made dinner for Dennis Hopper back in 1990..Never will forget it as long as I live..I miss him, & it's too surreal that he is gone...R.I.P

  • Play it again

  • OMG77777: Let me think, new tires for my HOG, a pretty lady to hang on the back. Fresh bottle of Jack......do I need to go on and on?

  • I would like to do what these 2 did here....trip across country to N.O. But I need a motorhome, my internet and cell phone

  • The very song and film clip that got me into Country Rock! Byrds and Burritos! Woo hoo!

  • desearia volver a tener la libertad de viajar por el mundo

    una joya The Byrds

  • RiP Dennis!

  • Lyrics today just dont match up with songs from 60s 70s era.

  • @goodthing52 Some lyrics do... they're just few and far between (like they always were).

  • @LARRYLONGSTRETH Who would be the Bob Dylan of today? Or the Carole King? She wrote this song.

  • @goodthing52 Bob Dylan's one of my all-time favorites and belongs in that tier of guys who can never really be replaced (Johnny Cash, Beatles, etc). Of the newer artists these days, I'd suggest The Decemberists (Calamity Song is great), Arcade Fire, Cage the Elephant (start w/ acoustic version of Right Before My Eyes), and the much older Radiohead (Fake Plastic Trees song is PERFECT and the song I use as the best evidence that great lyrics are still around (just rare)).

  • @LARRYLONGSTRETH Not arguing but Dylan, Beatles, Carole King, Jackso Browne, ETC works have stood the test of time and ones you mentioned have a way to go. Everybody has an opinion but time tells all.

  • @goodthing52 haha fair enough. Only the old ones have had a chance to stand the test of time! I feel confident that Britney Spears, N Sync, and Bieber will be classics 500 years from now!

    (not really)

  • A true gem from the 60s. The incisive Goffin/King lyrics performed beautifuly by the Byrds. What more could you want?

  • makes me laugh and cry at the same time. thanks

  • then Captain America was killed by 2 rednecks in da highway. End of the film

  • beautifull!!!!!

  • i adore this!!what a lovely song!!!

  • This is one peaceful song:)

  • ANYBODY SONGS LIKE THIS? I'd really like to find more songs like this (psychedelic bluesy kind of sound)???

  • @TheMulticolouredMan Check out some more Byrds

  • fabulous song, fabulous scene, fabulous film, from a French in love with the United States

  • Every generation must think their music and art are the gold standard but geez...how is it I can listen to this almost 45 years after I first heard it and it still moves my soul? We may not be handing over the world to the young ones in the shape we should have, but there is a freedom, and a spirit and an energy that was PERVASIVE then that you just don't feel anymore. It was either true, or we believed so hard it was true it became true. I wouldn't trade my memory of that time for anything.

  • @Moshpith very well put

  • @Moshpith RIGHT ON...but maybe the kids feel the same as we did then...just the music they are fed is kinda wierd? On the other hand my kid loves the same stuff I do..then I listen to his stuff and he obviously likes the new....maybe we are just out dated..hahaha...

  • @dergrossen I HOPE they rebel from what's been handed them. It's a rite of passage they need to go through to unpack their own destiny. I don't want to trash all new music--it doesn't deserve it to be--but it seems to me our time was ripe for the incredible quality that poured forth. But no matter, all generations are like the waves at the shoreline. We are receding now and the new ones are rolling in. Thus was it ever. Thank you, Universe, for putting me in the right place at the right time...

  • @Moshpith OK...tell me how you feel about the 65000 kids USA lost in SE Asia. Nevermind all the innocents who were slaughtered alongside them. And tell me how you see the current "anti capitalism" fitting the current mood of the kids? Do we EDUCATE our kids properly?

  • @Moshpith That's because our generation was blessed to grow up in a truly magical era. Peace, man.

  • Short, but best song on Notorious Byrd Brothers. Hearing this song on this film is what got me interested in country rock. The obvious path followed: buy Sweetheart of the Rodeo, buy Gilded Palace of Sin.

  • Do What You Wanna Do

Be What You Wanna be Yeah

    Masters Apprentices

  • If ur listening to this in 2011 instead of the modern day crap, then u weren't born to follow !!

  • @qwertasdf880 Right on! I inherited this record from my pops.. RIP T.D.M Dad,good guy,Veitnam Vet and all around rowdy muthafucka

  • @qwertasdf880 You know u wrote that comment in 2011

  • zep.i sorta think that too.but what do i know,im a 16yr old youth.

  • Just love the words.

  • Greatest song in the greatest movie! RIP Dennis Hopper

  • love that song/movie even though i have not been on a bike since circa 83 put the fear of god in me

  • Stimulated by the movie "Easy Rider" and Ted Simon's book "Jupiter's Travel" I drove many years later, in 1995-96 around the world by motorcycle, which I will never forget ... thanks to "Easy Rider".

  • My fave movie

  • Freedom is timeless.

  • lordy, Carole KING wrote this? these guys really put a spin on her tune, didn't they? always did love this song, thanks for sharing the vid.

  • I didn't grow up in this era either. But anyone with a shred of historical knowledge should understand about the changes occurring both in America and across the world. Watch Nicholson's speech about freedom, and the rest of the film makes sense. And Fonda was a good actor. Nicholson is just a god.

  • Hard-Tail hogs rule!

  • Rigid frames look great, but are back & butt killers!

  • Random quote from the song.

  • Radnom quote from the song.

  • I love the music of Easy Rider and the riding scenes. Those are worth watching again and again.. But I did not enjoy the movie except for the last part when they abruptly get killed. I couldn't stop laughing. Sorry i just don't get it. Maybe if I grew up in that era and was a hippie I would enjoy it more. And I can't stand Fonda's "acting". He sucks. Nicholson was cool.

  • @harrybaules Maybe if you grew up in that era , you might understand it better, not as you said " enjoy it more"

  • @harrybaules I agree totally.... peter fonda is not my favourite actor either....imagine his sister playing his part however ...WOW WHAT A MOVIE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN !!!!

  • in lovin memory of Dennis Hopper.

    R.I.P.

  • what are you talking about?

    for me he's not dead

he's always on his bike in Monument Valley!!

    :D

  • This song is one of my all time favs thanks ^-^

  • Those rigids vare so damn HOT

  • A SONG THAT RUNS THE ROAD, R.I.P. G.A.P.

  • @PONYBOY430 Canada, the Granola nation, full of nuts, flakes, fruits , taxes out of sight, military is broke. If the US decided to invade it'd be a cakewalk. Just who are the pussies? But have no fear, the US is going the way the Canadians already have and in the future will be as dysfunctional. In WW 2 the Canucks and Aussies were supurb fighting men, but now..................

  • Great movie, song, and words. Poetry in music.

  • 26 people... WERE born to follow. ;)

  • Kocham to!

  • Zajebiste w kosmos aż ciężko mi normalnie się wyrazić.

  • Used to get stoned and groove to this one. Still hop on my Harley at the age of 72 and can still hear this(it or Born To Be Wild) in my mind as I ride off with the pipes thundering, technology is better, the sound is the same. When will I grow up? Growing older is mandatory, growing up is optional and I sure as Hell have no plans to do so. It was a good time, had a lot of fun, society wasn't so Goddamned restrictive, we had freedom. Today the lawyers and politicos have taken over. It sucks!

  • @9241937 Dude, if you've figured out how to be seventy-two and still groove, then you did grow up. It's the people who turned into good little Establishment cogs in their twenties and thirties and forgot how to have fun who backslid from childhood into dronehood.

  • @implicaverse You make a good point. Hell of it is, most all of the persons that I used to party with are either dead or have turned into religious fuddy-duddys who think it's either sinful and/or too dangerous to still have a good time. Frankly sitting in front of a tele or listening to some windy preacher doesn't sound all that thrilling. Guess I always liked living on the edge and still do.

  • @9241937

Thumbs up, pal! That´s the spirit.

  • Luke Askew was also in Cool hand luke. Pig to hippie!

  • The sound of Byrds meets Donovan 2011:

Michael Moeller - Where the wind blows

    Its just wonderfull!

  • amazing film !!!

  • dans le vent and on bike :)

  • oui ...and spring is here :))

  • Are 25 people insane?????????

  • I saw this the first time I smoked pot at age 13 eleven years ago :-)

  • @iscream22 I was also 13 when I first started smoking but it was 41 years ago when this film was new. It blew my mind, bit calmer now as I head into the early twilight of life, but I'll never forget seeing the film for the first time, although I've lost count of how many times I've seen it since. One of my favourite films and albums.

Thanks again Dennis, gone but obviously not forgotten.

  • wow dennis hopper your a face of a whole generation if only the film could be like real life and a man could really be free!

  • On of the most importand, Ground-Breaking Movies of all time,, A Classic and still one of my favourite movies 40 + years later... Billy and Captain A still ride!

  • I know how to travel across the world and earn some extra-money

  • im watching this baked as anything and its the highlight of my 420

  • freedom indeed! - and where did it go?

  • EASY RIDER FOREVER!!!

  • Thumbs up also high. RIP Dennis. It all seems so long ago.

  • @gerlan1234to RIP? LONG AGO? where Dennis is it is still happening, tomorrow, and yesterday

  • @billyconnearly

Yes, All things happen eternally, but I live in linear time and it is a long time for me since Dennis et al made me open my eyes as a young teenager. I'm sure wherever Dennis is, he is still pushing the limits. We'll never forget him.

  • @gerlan1234to dennis will never ever be fogotten this film opened my eyes to endless posibilties if that makes any sense to you?

  • @drugfckd makes absolute sense to me too, for a young guy in the wild of north wales he made me aware of that you could see the world in a different way. Easy Rider was an inspiration. We miss you already Dennis, coolname drugfcked, often feel like that myself.

  • @gerlan1234to cheerz mate i did used to smoke quite alot of weed n got high watching this film many times not for me anymore tho but proper sick film.

  • @gerlan1234to Because it WAS a long time ago.

  • I gotta laugh at any one who put a thumbs down to this song, keep drinking the kool-aid,( its not the electric version that is obvoius), lol !

  • Thumbs up if your High right now

  • A musical "rant" to purge our fathomless soul. Its in there!

  • Do drugs and be CONtolled is THE message.........

  • 15 people were born to follow.

  • @Fiverrdrums as of now D:

  • Unbelievably fantastic! This song gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. They don't make music like this anymore...what a shame. Rock on, Dennis.

  • FREEDOM!!

  • THE best!

  • this song has a grateful dead feel to it, amazing song

  • me and my kid WILL before i die drive this road, also the one in "the weight"...

  • one of my favorite songs ever

~poem actually(written by carole king in the brill bldg!), if you notice, it's blank verse...a great rock song, & NOT ONE LINE RHYMES! never noticed before did you? cool.

  • Long way from "c'mon baby, do the Locomotion with me", huh? One of my very favorite songs ever.

  • this is a great song

  • I love the posts on this vid. A lot of positive energy here and again I love it!!! PEACE BROTHERS AND SISTERS

  • @ChimeraAZ Let your "overwhelming Spirit" keep you alive in the HERE AND NOW. That is the "utopian moment" of the 60s. We had to walk the valley of death past redkecks and conservatives then too. I know, I saw "Easy Rider" first run. I am still young though because I live in THIS Eternal Moment! Last month I celebrated 60 climbing to the top of a mountain. I lived the 60s. The best is still to come! The energy comes in waves, SURF's coming up again RIDE IT! see my vids here too. Love You, Man!

  • So cool --Like this song alot good in the mind--from Coolfish

  • I was wondering if one of the hills in the background was used for the Crazy Horse monument. I wonder?

  • @paniciao Lived in those mountains. Took Cinema/Media arts from old Film Pro. He lives in Arizona and told me Easy Rider had been filmed ( in part in the White Mountains). These may be near Show Low going down to White River. The Sitgreaves Natl Forest Ponderosa Pine Country is plain if you know it. Peace!

  • @BardOfEarth thanks man I will keep it in mind. dig it.

  • good song

  • The only thing wrong with this video clip is that it ends before they pull into the Sacred Mountain Gas Station. The mountains behind the gas stations were stunning. I've been down that road(although I didn't realize the Easy Rider connection) and vividly recall seeing them in real life.

  • im 17 and im not like the other kids...since i dont like that rap shit (retarded ass poetry) that isant even music people think im crazy but im a hippy...i dont get hi or nothin but i still got hippy runnin through my blood.

  • Hey Chimera, Keep on Keeping on

  • @tiddlywinks98712 Were you shot or arrested during your visit to America for being "remotely different?" You do seem somewhat peculiar.

  • @lmferg nope, i managed to keep well out of there way most of the time. its crazy though, dno if u live there or what? but it's politics are fucked, thankfully most liberal americans agree with me.

  • @tiddlywinks98712 so you stay out of America, yet somehow you know who we are and how we live better than we do ourselves? Interesting.

  • @swanski100 i've visited. very very backwards nation socially. but hey, u guys are thriving economically at the expense of the 3rd world, so as long as you guys are ok, i guess thats all that matters in ur closed little world. The US foreign policy is the main thing i can think of that is actually worse than American 'Sport'...and thats BAD..

  • @tiddlywinks98712 we're thriving economically?

  • @swanski100 yea, look at your cheap oil prices at the expense of third world coast lines. America fucked up on it's own shoreline with the gulf of mexico spillage...and yep, 'British' is in the title so Ignorant America was happy to go 'BOO, ITS ENGLANDS FAULT'...HOWEVER!! if they stopped inbreading for a few seconds, they'd realise that the company is dominantly OWNED, operated and instructed by Americans, plus look at all cheap crap at walmart at the exploitation of low paid workers.

  • @tiddlywinks98712 dude WTF are you talking about? Our oil prices are definitely not low. And nobody I know went "BOO, ITS ENGLANDS FAULT." And for pollution, look at China or Russia. And again, please explain to me how we're thriving economically. Aren't we up to like 10% unemployment? That's not thriving.

  • @swanski100 hahha dude, u know nothing, oil prices are SO SO SO BEYOND cheap in America, try buying petrol in another country in the world. Then u'll see. Unemployment is bad everywhere, get over it.

  • @tiddlywinks98712 how did "America" fuck up it's shoreline? A private company did it and after all, look how bad the damage is right now. Nonexistent.

And employment being bad everywhere doesn't make it any better over here

  • @swanski100 comparitively to the rest of the world, Americans have it easy, but they have it easy because they exploit the rest of the world to a MUCH greater degree than other countries...AGAIN, i bring up this fucking statistic (America consuming 25% of the World's resources to supply 5% of the world's population) OK, has it sunk in ur brain yet??...As for the oil thing, i was just defending against the case of some Americans thinking it was Britain's fault cus B.P USED to be a British company
