Success!! We are now pleased to offer an all natural liquid soap that does NOT use borax. It also does not contain coconut oil if that is of interest . Instead of borax we use regular table salt as a thickener. You can find it on our website under our liquid soap link. We have the following scents now available: Lavender Mint, Lavender Rosemary, Lemon Zest and Lime & Sage as well as unscented.
Hola susan te felicito por tu logro se que no es facil, no se si quisieras compartir la formula en lo personal por escrito para hacer comparaciones , no hablo ingles lo entiendo poco felicidades y gracias.
@cilenediaz Thank you for your comments. I speak very little Spanish, but had a friend translate your comments. Unfortunately, as soap is my business I do not give out my formulas.
@ashams22 Thanks for your interest. I am not sure when I would fit it in right now, but I will certainly think about it. In the meantime, have you seen David Fisher's Liquid Soap tutorial on his candle and soap channel on about com site? It's really good.
I am hoping to do some videos from the Soap Conference next week and then maybe a series demonstrating how to use some of my products. Thanks again for watching.
Ingestion of only 5 grams of borax can be lethal to children. To my opinion it is extremely toxic. If you would make laundry soap I wouldn't mind the borax... but handsoap?
My advice: Im a medical doctor and a phD in biological sciences, actually Borax has been shown to be toxic if sufficient accumulation occurs It's also linked to birth defects, so I wouldnt use this on pregnant women neither in children.
If you think there's proof it's completely safe to humans becasue FDA labels it G.R.A.S and it is widely used in cosmetic commercial products think again! particularly if your paradigm is organic and natural sales!
Thanks for your comment and the information. I had not heard that and will definitely check it out. One thing I wanted to note: You mentioned "sufficient accumulation". We only use a very tiny amount of the borax solution to thicken the soap so that the actual amount of borax used is extremely small and in a product that is washed off your skin. That said I will definitely check into this as mentioned above. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Cosmetic indsutry is so powerful that it has been able to remain basically unregulated, so A LOT of preservatives, lathering agents and detergent agents are actually irritant to skin and/or mucous membranes. Not to be a fearmonger, but you could try alternatives, such a s vitamin E and citric acid as preservatives and yuca root as a lathering and thickening agent instead of borax.
I am NOT saying that using mall amounts of borax will hurt you===>
as you said you only use a small amount of it, and it gets washed off the skin, but maybe DAILY use of the same soap could cause skin irritation, just a tiny bit, and also eye mucous irritation. Also I would caution it's use in pregnant women until further studies on toxicity are done.
So now you should look out for EPA sudies on borax to determine their safe quantities, and again, not to be a fear monger, but if you plan on going "100% green"====>
I would definitively try yuca root and other alternative natural ingredients that are food grade and have been shown consistently to be 100% safe for human use. Thanks for the video, I will be glad to help you out in your quest to build the ultimate organic natural soap.
Thanks again for your comments. I will investigate the yucca root suggestion. As regards your mention of preservatives, we already use Vit. E and indeed use no artificial preservatives in any of our products.

I am currently working on reformulating my liquid soap/body wash so as to use salt as the thickener instead of borax. Will keep you posted.
