LOL, the F#%$ing gun is almost comically large! When it's fired, I am half expecting to see a little *Bang!* flag, pop out of the barrel, lol. Sweet ass weapon though. The epitome of the term "Hand Cannon"! :-) BTW, does the carry permit for this gun come with a back pack or what? Damn! I don't even think I would enjoy firing it. Not really. The range was packed this day, the only range slot open was in the 25 ft stalls. The damned barrel felt like it was 3/4 way down the range.

I'll admit, this is much bigger than anything I've shot before from a pistol. The largest prior to this is a .357 air weight used for carrying which I shoot 2-3 times a year to stay proficient.

I don't typically shoot pistols that are meant for longer distances. I use rifles for longer distance, because I don't have the time 2 practice w/ this.

Not to mention, the cost of ammo for this thing makes it prohibitive to practice with. The cheapest I've found it for is roughly $2 per round.

the ballistics for this gun are nuts, rifle foot lbs and velocity for this arm cannon... its good you got the extra inches for the barrel, not sure why this would even be made in 4 inch barrel... i would have worn ear plugs and extra padded ear muffs on top of that, due to tinnitis i have...

i heard that if it went up against a bullet proof vest it would cave in the chest of the wearer, killing him, maybe like a sledge hammer swung by andre the giant into your chest... .44 mag is enough for me!

of course the load makes all the difference, i've done reloads, blue wax and played around with the grain count... dangerous, but you can make a real kicker bullet if you want... i did this with .44 mag, nice 7.5" barrel... no matter what i did with that .44 mag, the .357 mag with 4 inch barrel was always louder... barrel length makes a big difference - and a compensator at the end... my point is aim, its just hard as hell to aim with only 4 inches or less... too much kick anyway with any 500

Nope

While both have diameters of .500 and thus are both .50 caliber, that is where the similarities end.

The .500 S&W is much larger (2.1" vs 1.6") and much more powerful than the .50 AE rounds.

Don't quote me on the numbers but the .500 pushes that big down range somewhere in the neighborhood of 16-1700 fps, while the AE rounds are somewhere in the neighborhood of 1300.

The .50 AE rounds aren't too much different than a .44, a .500 round is closer to a 30-06.

The DE I shot certainly had more recoil than the S&W. It didn't have any sort of muzzle brake / compensator and the grip wasn't very comfortable.

If your looking for kick, get a S&W .500 with a smaller barrel. The 8 3/8" barrel on this does a lot to alleviate the recoil.

1911's are some of the finest firearms around, especially those made by colt. I have definitely shot them. When in the military I fell in love with them and now own 3 of them.

Springfield also makes a very nice 1911.

The .500 smith and wesson magnum round (That the cannon uses) is almost 25% longer than the .50 action express that the Desert Eagle uses. I thought the two rounds were the same but the .500 is 12.7x41 and the .50 is 12.7x33. Isn't wikipedia wonderful? lol so after your fun with the cannon, you should be able to make the deagle your b*tch XD

Yeah, this isn't a firearm for the common man. The kick on it is serious. I've since shot about a dozen 450 gr rounds in practice for hunting. Even with the muzzle brake and grips it's still a beast that will make one's wrist a little tender after spending a lot of time shooting it. I'm spending a lot of time now trying to improve my accuracy with this beast.

I've also shot the DE, very nice weapon but the recoil is twice if not more as bad. Not designed as well as the S&W, IMHO.

The Desert Eagle has MORE recoil?! Didn't expect that... you probably think me a fool but I'm even more excited to try the deagle now. I was thinking of picking one up, well, when I get my license anyways. I'm having the test next friday to get it. I was planning on getting an M1911 as my first firearm, ever tried one? Theres a special at a gun range in a town not too far from here. They have WW1 style Colt 1911s. Made by Colt too so it is truly authentic to what they were using back then.
