Why is socialism such a bad word? There are many socialistic programs that work incredibly well and the world would be a lesser place without them. Full socialism leads to apathy and no innovation. Full capitalism leads to greed and inequity. What's wrong with a balance? Any political platform is going to have a combination of the two principles. You are correct to some degree. The problem with the Iraq War is more complicated than this reasoning, however. How much suffering did we cause by going to war, rather than allowing Iraq to naturally gravitate towards a more open society? The problem is that we tried to correct a problem by causing a problem and not having a good plan with which to do it. Additionally, I don't think we can be genuine in saying that the reason we started the war was to help the Iraqi people.
