Fed-ex renown for hiring ex-air force guys, and there safety records shows it, except for the recent mishap at Narita. BTW no auto-land can perform a cross-wind landing like that, you need to hand fly it.

Take a look at it using HQ and watch the driver as he pumps the elevator just to keep the MD911 Widowmaker on glidepath. Too bad "McDonalds" Douglas reduced to area of the DC10 horizontal stab by 30 percent. Saves fuel in the cruise but makes it real pitch sensitive.

No worries, LSAS will help you....... down to 100 feet RA anyway. Then start pumping...

Get real. The extreme crosswind landings that commercial pilots had to execute at Hong Kong/Kai Tak back in the day would make this seem like a routine landing. Crosswind landings are challenging but aren't impossible and they are common.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Those MD-11s love settling belly up. May the crew RIP. Interestingly enough, this video shows the plane tackling a strong crosswind. The Narita incident looked more like a headwind. Maybe it was gusting with speed variances so wide so that when the wind ebbed, the plane stalled while still on a high altitude over the runway thus the very hard initial touchdown. Anyway let's wait for the NTSB report.
