there is something i always wanted to say: even though i adore this movie, i still must say that in real life men forget the ones they loved before women do. i always believed that first love may stay as a cherished memory to a girl but the guy completely forgets it. this notion was presented also by Jane Austen in Persuasion, don't you think it's true that a widow stays a sad widow forever but a widower quickly marries after his wife's death? just a passing thought ^^

out of all 3 characters, I feel at most sad for Kanae. atleast tono-kun and Akari-chan can look back n know how they felt about each other, although tono-kun never got over it. But Kanae oh poor Kanae, the silence of unrequired love is far more worse than having to have had it and then lose it.

At the end of part 1 he made a promise to himself he'll find the strength to protect her. In part 2, he was still searching.

I guess it was a huge mistake to lose contact but he's powerless to change anything by then.

The beauty is the agony demostrated on the train in part 1 is nothing compared to that in part 2. Only difference is how the story was told.

By part 3, he's already suffering a break down, for that very reason.

The song express exactly what he desperately needed.

Yes, very good song... but "yet"? It's unlikely Shinkai will ever make a sequel. The ending was great imo. A sequel to give it a "happily ever after" ending would degrade it, I think.

Well shinkai (and myself) like the whole concept of not having a completely happy ending...like ALL (yes all) his OVA's, they had either sad endings (she dies) or not so "win-win" (they are finally together...but she loses her memories of there love :0)

personally i like that extreme jerking in emotions which can make you cry and feel much more sentimental then what you'd get in the happy ending where you just go "Well its done, yay they are happy,"
