  • u havent posted in a year. imguessing you quit. cant say i blame you, tae kwon do had a lot of flaws when i leartn it. made it as far as blue. too much theory, not enough practice. that was the schools fault though, not tae kwon dos. you shud get yourself out there.

try some mma and jiu jitsu, it feels a lot more effective. wish you all the best.

  • Unfortunately, the Japanese and Korean martial art forms are very antiquated and wont work well in a real world situation. They are good for basics and for children. Ed Parkers Kenpo is the top of the heap for functionality. An orange belt in Kenpo would beat a black belt in tae kwan do. I really would suggest switching if you want the best self defense.

  • If appropriate attention is given to self-defense then TKD techniques can be devastating in self defense, including grappling. It's a question of knowing how to apply them.

Some of the movements and stances wouldn't work if you use them literally; they are practised for the neurological and physical improvements that they effect.

  • Well lets see....

Make ur videos a litttle more intresting.. Like put some of ur stuff on here and show the people how good of a black belt you are ad show us how ur working urself up..

  • Ha ha ! !im NOT A BLACK BELT!!! far from it!! i have one of my grading on here somewhere not sure what the title of it is...cant demo now cos injured!!! i love tkd but im not great by any means!!its all about dedication and not loosing the thirst for something you love, will post update very soon.

  • damn girl, you hella fine, can you kick me in the face sometime? yo listen up girl, im a gangsta from the streets yo, and i dig what yo azz is doin, check out my profile for some crazy ass gangsta stuff yo. peace

  • ur only a green belt and ur doing all this??my bf is #1 in the U.S.A in sparring for 12-13 year olds.

  • i have yet to come accross anyone in tkd that is wealthy because of it! if its easy to make so much money then why do all the instructors have full time jobs and teach tkd after hours..i can only speak from the people i have encountered in ireland but i believe if they got no money at all they would still give classes its passing on a martial art its invaluable.

  • belts are the dumbest thing because i see kids that still can't tie their belt that are 2nd degree black belts and im only a green 1st and i'm a lot better at everything than some of the black belts

  • Well, i'm a 2nd cup WTF taekwondo practicioner, and all i've to say is: Dont forget the Art part of martial arts.

First thing you started talking about was the sparring. I know ITF clubs here in Norway sure value the Jongs and the basics higher than how good you do in sparring. Practice technique, and the sparring will come naturally.

  • It's amazing, I started talking to you before you even started and now you seem to be pretty advanced. I'm still waiting for my private lessons :)

  • "lolsean" thats a load of shite because there is no brown belt in ITF go make up a story on some one elses video.

  • The Pattrons Are What I Find Hard Lol Kicks Fine When It Comes To Pattrons Its My Weakness lol

  • theres no dedication required...ive seen 8 year olds speed all the way to brown in afew years because they payed for it.

  • thats in other types of taekwondo.i do I.T.F. and you have to work hard to grade for each belt or youll fail and you wont get your belt if you dont know your pattern a sparring etc well...and also all the theory and the proper korean words.its definatley not easy especially when you get past my belt (green ) it gets harder every grading.i have seen kids online get belts for really bad patterns but its not I.T.F.were very serious about tkd

  • ITF is exactly what my old org was with amd learning Korean words and theory is just fleshing it out to make people think that there doing something worthwhile

  • I.T.F. is the TKD style but there are different organizations that do ITF style TKD. There are some that only care about money but there are many great ones too like the TAGB. Get your facts right before you start typing.

  • ive failed to ever come across one that actually doesnt care about finances in all the years ive been doing martial arts

  • careful synx, the TAGB left the ITF took on the ITF style and system.

sounds rude but you gave the perfect example of a group that has taken its students for a ride and cheated on them.

why still practice "ITF" if you do not want to be part of the ITF?

its like hating Chelsea FC but wearing their shirt everyday and telling people you don't like them whilst in a Chelsea shirt!

  • The TAGB left the ITF because of the constant political infighting within that organisation. Assuming that the ITF style is effective, then how is the TAGB cheating its students? It's certainly not claiming to have a monopoly on the ITF style.

Is it not possible to endorse the ITF's style whilst objecting to the organisation itself?

It's like supporting Man. United instead of Chelsea. It doesn't mean you hate football.

  • no, how can you endorse a style but not follow it?

yes there is problems, every group has problems, even TAGB. they lot a few groups like GTI, UKGT, PUMA and Bytomic because of Political problems, no-one can ever be right.

oh, how can you cheat your students, they are not doing ITF style Chang Hon patterns, they are doing karate style Chang Hon patterns, not 100% the same.

  • They ARE following the style (largely) of the ITF, as you said yourself, just not the organisation.

I wasn't aware that the TAGB are claiming to teach TKD patterns in the exact same way as the ITF, with the ridiculously exaggerated "sine wave" concept.

  • yeah, your right, the Chang Hon style of the ITF but not the actual ITF!

tagb dont do ITF as such, they left before the introduction of Sine Wave, they still perform the old style of hip twist.

  • hey abi get yourself a heavy bag i have one in my shed and i train alot on it my side kicks turning kicks and punches have inproved quit a bit since i started on it i just keep going until i can barely breath hahahahaha but it has paid off for me i can just about go as long as anybody in my class now and a bit more i think training alot at home is essential if your serious about it keep up the good work your small fella is a legend hahaha

  • im not sure how many people know hes my kid but they know who his dad is!doesn't look good when ur 6yr old can out do you effortlessly!its my husband who posted the tri- club vid. check out a vid he made of felim when he was a bit younger search mini jedi kid

  • dave! how did you come accross this vid!i havent watched it since cos im mortified and prob said stupid things!!too bad about the pix i can always use the cork pix on our website i suppose!pretend its dub!i learned a lot from barada so hopefully i can apply that stuff,i just panic at the last sec all stratagey leaves me!eek!!but im only doing tkd a yr so i guess its not too bad!sparring in class is 1 thing but in comp is another!thanks for tips!i ask ng so many qu's im sure hes sick of me!

  • Dave Condon from Naas sent me a link to a vid that someone from Kildare put up about the Tri Club comp and kind of linked in from there I guess. Ever get sick of people telling you how cool you're kid is? I showed my 7yr old a vid of him (she's a yellow belt) and told her she's no excuses:)

  • hay goostof thanks for the tips.yeh she gave a good fight, she seems like a nice girl, of course you can be friends but when you spar its all about winning as you know yourself!myself my husband and my son are all in my class its cool cos we get to pratise 2gether at home 2.its great for families.yeh the cork and dub clubs are good alright im sure ill end up meeting you at some stage!in fact a few pple from here!the world of tkd is soo small!

  • Hi Abigail,

I saw you're bout in Tramore, You were a bit too timid and more concerned about what the other girl was going to do to you,,,,but thats allowed since it was you're 1st comp! Just think of the points you can score next time and preventing you're opponent scoring on you (that easy!!) Get John to spar you some eve after class and he'll find youre weak areas and help you fix them.

    Dave

ps the photos i took at the barada seminar were lousy

  • hey ya im valerie from dublin m a 2nd degree in taekwondo itf aswell lived n cork for 15 years made da big move taekwondo clubs are brill up in dub my whole family is in it my sister was at da competiton u wer talkin about i know da girl u wer saprrin aswell ,and wat u said about sparrin never be afraid dats all i can say u ll learn to love it and think of every spar as a challenge on yourself think dat every spar u win is a step closer to you becoming better!!!!!

  • thanks for the comments everyone!i doubt there would be such a following of tkd if noone felt they learned more than how to stretch!no the clubs not in newbridge but your v.close!! ha ha! do you train in tkd cathal?

  • is that the club in newbridge?

  • dats awesome... im a black belt in america! yeah taekwondo in the olympics is cool.. you're cool.

  • keep it up im only a yellow tag at the moment and yes the nerves will get the better of you, but if your sparring a higher belt than you are then you will learn a great deal, if you get hit try to remember what you did wrong you will always learn from your mistakes good look in the future with your patterns and sparring

  • taekwondo is just a sport its not actual self defense. unless your going to roundhouse kick some guy in the head ninja styles your better off doing kickboxing or something.

  • i love tkd its part of my life ive be training for a yr and its a big part of my life,it has given me great confidence as far as being able to defend myself if there was ever unwanted advance made on me,i think its vital to have that confidence.i get a great deal moneywise too.and have met friends and getting in shape.the olympic tkd is not what i do i train in I.T.F. we focus a lot on patterns and sparring equallyif not more on patterns.

  • Hi Abagail,

My advise is as follows (based on what I do myself):

    1) Do your patterns in the back garden. This gives you much more freedom than indoors, where there are tables etc in the way!

    2) If you have a concrete wall in your back garden invest in a heavy bag. This will improve your cardio vascular, your co-ordination and your brute force.

  • 3) Stretch every day, or at least every 2nd day. Flexibility will give you an edge in your Patterns and Sparring. Your goal should be the front and side splits. In addition to achieving flexibility - practice your leg strenghtening exercises (holding the leg extended in a side kick position for example). There is no point have great loose legs if you do not have to power to lift 'em. A partner is advisable for serious stretching.

  • 4) When sparring, try not to block any of the attacks thrown at you. Instead: evade and counter. So for example, the second you see your opponent coming at you (no matter what the attack) you could say side step in and to the left and counter attack.

Or, rather than blocking an attack (which tends to serve no real purpose other than to hurt your blocking tool and more importantly LEAVES YOU OPEN) be out of range of youtr opponent in the first place.

  • 5) A great and simple counter for somebody whos "blitzing" (frenzied attack) you and making you retreat is to execute a jumping back kick. Very effective. Almost always works and scores good with judges too.

  • 6) You do not have to physically act out a pattern to learn it. (well. obviously eventuially you do). Sometimes I liek to go over patterns in my head, "visualising" them so to speak. You can be sitting on the bus and still learn TKD.

    7) Do not wait until before a grading, like most students, to learn your Theory. Learn it bit by bit, week by week. This avoids the panic of grading, plus you will remember it better if you have learned it properly.

  • thanks for the coments everyone.i do listen to my instructor but sometimes i find it hard to apply what hes saying..i guess it all comes with practise and experience.i suppose what i ment by that girl and the sparring was that she didnt compete in patterns in the comp which leads me ot believe her strength is in sparring.

  • taekwondo is useless

its a sport and nothing more.....people call it a martial art and your taught how to defend yourself

its a travesty and a waste of time and money

taekwondo is one of the most corrupt sports out there and is oriented entirely on money

'grandmaster' hee il cho thinks of himself as a philosopher but is nothing more than a gold digger

  • all that doesnt matter as long as you learn how to fight and kick properly have fun meet new people who gives a flyin fuck about what you say

  • thats the thing you dont learn to fight

your paying to be taught how to do stretches.

  • i dont no what or wher you go to taekwon-do but i doubt one of the most popular martial arts is as popular as it is because u learn how to stretch...so yes ur wrong

  • It doesn't really matter what you think. Tae Kwon Do is a martial art. Why? It trains you in both mind and body. It takes dedication, just like any other.

  • tae kwon do masters should leave philosophy and 'mind and body' ideas to the professionals, there honestly useless at the whole spiritual side of martial arts....its just a guise to fool people into thinking that its teaching you something.

  • You mentioned that a girl you fought specialised in sparring, this shouldn't be the case ! Tae Kwon Do has many different areas which should each be practised, if you want to reach black belt you will have to become a complete martial artist, not just good at fighting. I admire your enthusiasm and your willingness to learn, keep it up !

  • Pray to John Beebee!!

  • The best advice I can give you... Listen to you're instructor THEY KNOW BEST!

  • your quite sexy....Kildare is not far from Dublin :-)

  • cutie :)

  • i tried karate once...never again. i thought sparing was good though cause all the guys were petrified of hurting a girl!

  • Hey i from Tae Zen Do Ryu, im an assistant instructor at our art form.

Well im glad to see people with an interest in martial arts. Hehe, I've done close to 10 grading's now, and i still have 2 left to full black, let me say this, it is NEVER easy.. The best thing you can do is stay confident within your abilities and as u said, just jump in. Give me a hola if you ever have questions im happy to answer them.

  • hard work thats all you need to get to black belt, the fact that you get nervous means you care - just hard work

  • Another tip, if you get nervous, drink something hot before you go. Kinda clears your head.

  • eh wat school u in nass?? wb

  • hey im also doing itf taekwondo in ireland..dublin actually but defintily the most important advice i can give is get your kicks down perfect... as taekwondo is a mainly kicking marshall art this will really impress the judges and is the most noticable difference between somebody who is good and some one who isnt is how crisp clean and sharp their kicks are!

  • yeah totally... i grew up away from the old country, in hong kong, the judges loved how id dystroy all the short chinese ppl with blows to the head... i rember this one competion i was 15 kicked the shit out of this guy with my kicks, the next two guys didnt want to take me on, twas the easiest competition ever that one was

  • Aw, good luck!

  • haha cool, *points to self* im the black belt! and yeah deffo just cos their higher belts dusnt mean their good!!

  • I've watched like 3 times now :)
