Just dropped off a 'response video' taken that same night (2-10-2009) in Allen; I think in mine I might have been hearing Plano's sirens ... Allen's usually sound stronger than what I heard that night. Video was taken a little over a half mile east of Greenville and south of Main street by a few blocks ...

Had to go back into my archive of videos and pics to fish out this vid from 2009!

A siren that sounds like the tv shouldn't save lives. It took me a while to find out it was the sirens and not the tv.

Oh, that's the worst Idea ever! Replace today's loudest siren in production with these 'made in China' censor bleeps. And yes, a Model 2 could outsound them. They are not as loud, but their tone carries farther. 575hz sawtooth vs. 1000hz sine.

Yep, should have bought Whelen but the city went with ATI's famous "Tailgate Warranty" - When you can't see the tailgate on the installer's pickup, your warranty ends! My grandma farts louder than these pieces of crap!

Yeah, it was one of the rare 20V2Ts with the square horns. It was by Alton J. Boyd Elementary, at the intersection of E Bethany Dr & S Jupiter Rd.

That sounds about right! When a Thunderbolt sounds, people run outside to see the tornado. When an ATI sounds, people get the heck indoors to get away from that bloody awful soprano squeal!

LOL! I never thought of it that way. If that is the case (which it's not), ATI's must be pretty good sirens (HA! Sorry. Had to chuckle at that. They are speakers and they aren't good).

Wow that doesnt even sound like a siren. If they had those near where I live I don't think I would even know they were going off. We used to have thunderbolts and when those went off you knew they were going off. You could hear them inside the house but our city replaced them with federal 2001 sirens and I have a hard time telling them appart from a firetruck siren. They need to bring back the dual tone sirens.

I would think that people would spend more time trying to figure out what that was than taking cover. This is why it's important for it to actually sound like a siren. It's the sound that most people recognize.

They replaced 2-T135s, 1 Thunderbolt, 1-2t22 and a Sentry with square horns. Sorry, I can't remember the model number of the Sentry.
