I know how fustrated that guy was, as I could never get the undercarriage on my aircraft to work right either, awful fiddly, those dammed "Airfix" model kits.
@tomsriv They are reliable? LOL, inefficient and too heavy. Jaguar is an all alloy block and sounds more true to the Merlin engine. the only other engine that is suitable for the sound and power is the BMW V12.
I think you'll find that if you stick carbs on the V12 it'll be far more reliable than any chevy, it was the complex, early design of the ignition and fuel injection system that made the Jaguar V12 "unreliable".
It did not look too badly damaged, nothing a few weeks work and a few grand could not sort out. Shame it was not fitted with warning lights to indicate if wheels were not locked down.
The landing was as soft as it could be, had it been a lesser pilot the result might have been much worse.
Was that pilot getting irritated by stupid questions or what?
@Ismalith I think the tail and the cockpit/canopy look different on this one as opposed to a actually Spitfire because this one is a replica of the prototype Spitfire from 1936
That wasn't a "crash". By definition it was a GOOD LANDING, because the Aeroplane-ologist WALKED AWAY FROM IT.... And the Owner/Builder was justifiably speechless because it was ALL HIS OWN WORK, thus he couldn't blame anybody else for that failed Downlock...

@jmjlfc The reason it only has 2 propeller blades is because it's a replica of the prototype which only has 2 blades itself. Or if you're referring to the size of the blades, I think they only look small at the beginning, if you look at the video at about 0:23 they don't look that small in comparison to the plane
@MNMetallian That's what I said though. That it's a replica of the prototype which first first in 1936. When the Spitfire first entered service in 1938 it still had a 2 bladed prop
"since been jacked up and moved into a hanger." Maybe he should consider insuring it heavily, and then make a claim, just burn it to the ground properly.
@miltonluvsno1 The pilot of the replica Spitfire in this video was Pete Thorn who was a member of the RAFs Battle of Britain Memorial Flight so not just "some RAF wannabe"
Try telling that to those who fly them now - some of whom have never sat in an RAF aircraft. Carolyn Grace, for instance, or her son Richard, who both fly the family-owned Spitfire Tr.9.
@goosemilks what do you know about 1982 ? just uk won right? what do you know about the ww2 ? just germans lost right? moron.. if you know extactly what happend in falklands you cant say anything so i repeat you

No true Argentinian in their right state of mind would defend the cowardly attack of the Falklands as it was the decision of a tyranical dictatorship, who oppressed and brutally murdered many of their own people, and not the will of the people. It was a conflict that this dictator began as a propoganda effort and the loss of the war lead to his downfall.

seems that there still do not understand something, right?
I am not talking about politicians and government, the Argentine soldiers and airmen are true heroes who endured a force bigger and better trained with more technology and supported by USA and Chile, when we find a hero of the Falklands, we say he did a good work and we are proud and they greatly appreciate this recognition the government was corrupt with the decision-making malvinas , we know it
@argikna Britain sent one task 8000 miles away, when the entire Argentine armed forces were 250 miles away from the Falklands, the USA played no role in that war. Argentina were no match for Britain period.
@Tommyfungun I can not take seriously a comment from a person who in his profile says, books: nah:) .... History Channel, Discovery and National Geographic, showing a documentary tribute to Falklands, which are all similar and talk about how amazing it was Argentina in the conflict, citing British official speaking very good about Argentina .. in England be rebellious, truancy, insulting your parents is good, so I can not take very seriously the British, so I say I'm not generalizing bye
@Tommyfungun this is my last response,Argentina humiliated by a world power which received support from Chile and the U.S.?man is like saying the United States against Italy and North Americans say yes,we kicked them ass,so even if Italy has caused significant damage to its fleet.and didnt tell me that America did not give arms to England .go to fight against Iceland has no army and say we humiliated them?Argentine aircraft had some torn fuselage and fought, the Exocet was not working and we did
@jimmyxx3 there wouldn't be much damage to the undercarriage, but when the propeller strikes the ground like that, it wreaks havoc on the engine. There is probably a lot of internal damage because of that.
My brother Markus Bott had been brainwashed, tortured and steered during five and a half years by the German BND which is the renamed GESTAPO. I recorded more than 450 hours on video. I don't care what people say. That guy dedicated himself to this, replica or not, and it's a shame he crashed it.Looks like it can be saved, I just hope the pilot didn't get shit about it.
Initially they thought the pilot was uninjured but it was later discovered that his ego had sustained terminal bruising. He eventually moved to Japan and became friends with a Kamikaze pilot that had washed out of the program before the war's end.
One night they got drunk and the Brit asked his Jap friend to teach him about Seppuku. With tanto knives in hands, way too much sake in their bellies, and both trying to outdo the other - you might be able to guess the grisly ending . . . . . . .
@jk2626261 The prototype Spitfire (which the one in the video is a replica of) and the early production Mk Is had a 2 bladed prop. It wasn't until the summer of 1940 that they got 3-bladed props.
@jk2626261 Actually just like the Spitfire, the prototype Hurricane and the early Mk Is had 2-bladed props, from summer 1940 they too had 3-bladed props
@flintrocks Duh, that's the point, it's a REPLICA. I'd like to see you try to own the real thing! This guy couldn't, so he got as close as he could. Better than you'll ever do I'm sure.
"Defeat" Luftwaffe? I think "stopped" Luftwaffe is a more exact description because the "Luftwaffe" was never "razed" by the Britains but due to a order of Hitler transfered to the more important theater of operation in the East.
@camrober They actually started with a 2-bladed prop, the 3-bladed prop didn't get fitted until late 1939 early 1940. Also later Spits (the ones with the Griffon) had a 5-bladed prop
@germaniajim The prototype Spitfire (which this replica represents) and the early production Mk Is had two bladed props, later Mk Is, up to the Mk V had three bladed props, the Mk VI was the first Spit fitted with a four bladed prop and the Mark XIV, XVIII and XIX all had a five bladed prop
The pilot did a great job saving the aircraft. That damage isn't very severe. There is a bit of work to get it back to operating but it is very repairable.
thank god the plane wasnt damaged.. screw the pilots, there are thousands. but spitfires not:P but it would have been better if it had a merlin and some green paint though
@letsbeone Yes it would have been better if it had a Merlin in it, but there can't be too many of them laying about. It still looks like a Spit though
@147258GS to think people are slating this chap and giving lots of not very nice comments and then to top it all someone thinks a Berlin Motor Works engine would be a good idea, I personally think its not the best looker, BUT he has tried to use British equipment and as some have said sadly there isnt a Merlin in it but a Jag engine is the next best British bit available.
@paulhunter123 lol who are you , Mr T? I know it didn't, thanks for pointing out the obvious. Now back to my point - did you not hear the multiple references to engine trouble? Go clear your ears out, foo!
because the aircraft is a replica. The fuselage is built of wood and weighs half that of a real Spitfire so he used an engine which produced roughly half the power of an early Merlin. The Jag engine was chosen because its British and is a V12 (like the Merlin) and produces a similar sound
I was there on the day, what I can remember most are the screams of terror from women and children. I had been basking in the sun half asleep, can remember seeing LGT at the top of the loop and then shut my eyes and refused to get up to watch the inferno. The ground was very undulating and the pilot was probably mislead by his visual reference points. The pilot did seem to be flying a "lazy" display and probably would have been called in anywhere else. The spit was G-ALGT and is being rebuilt!
@brown05046 Easy to explaine. The news channel posted the story specificly for dipshits like you.So you could post three lame comments in a row after being disappointed that nobody was injured and the aircraft not destroyed.
@rikorko We used that to mock the german fighters becuase they were crap at shooting so we thought we would give them a helping hand by paiting a big target on the side of the aircraft! yet they still failed to defeat us in the battle of briton!

147258GS 1 year ago
@147258GS to think people are slating this chap and giving lots of not very nice comments and then to top it all someone thinks a Berlin Motor Works engine would be a good idea, I personally think its not the best looker, BUT he has tried to use British equipment and as some have said sadly there isnt a Merlin in it but a Jag engine is the next best British bit available.

Why did he put a fucking Jaguar car engine in it in the first place?
And all you kids posting on Youtube, GO TO BED

@FetidToecheese what u talking bout punk - it didnt crash due to the engine!
paulhunter123 1 year ago
@paulhunter123 lol who are you , Mr T? I know it didn't, thanks for pointing out the obvious. Now back to my point - did you not hear the multiple references to engine trouble? Go clear your ears out, foo!

@FetidToecheese i told you i aint goin in no plane fool
paulhunter123 1 year ago
@paulhunter123 haha nice.
I just found it funny he used a jag engine in a plane when they are considered horribly unreliable ;)
FetidToecheese 1 year ago
@FetidToecheese
because the aircraft is a replica.

The spit was G-ALGT and is being rebuilt!

cant believe the news channel even put that bullshit on air! News channel must really be hurting for views & money.
brown05046 1 year ago
@brown05046 Easy to explaine. The news channel posted the story specificly for dipshits like you.So you could post three lame comments in a row after being disappointed that nobody was injured and the aircraft not destroyed.

@rikorko We used that to mock the german fighters becuase they were crap at shooting so we thought we would give them a helping hand by paiting a big target on the side of the aircraft! yet they still failed to defeat us in the battle of briton!
