  • I hate how they made a fuss over Robert Dudley's marriage, like it was some big secret. In reality Elizabeth attended his wedding...and then his wife died under mysterious circumstances. That would have been more dramatic of a route to take and more accurate, too.

  • That is so dramatized and not what happened. No way the arrow was within 2 feet.

  • ENGLISH PIRATE! 8D

  • The Brotherhood of DeMaistre is watching you assorted mad dogs and jackals, the Holy Office and the Swiss Guard may not be able to touch you, but we can. We will punish the promoters of Error. Just as we nearly removed that iniquitous she-wolf from the throne that that most grotesque parody of royalty, the Abominable Monster known as Henry, disgraced with his syphilitic lusts and despotism. Through his faithlessness, he showed contempt for not only religion, but the very life of his country.

  • @FatherFilipic well said well said,

  • i just noticed...the guys all have such...swaggers.

  • English pirates!!!

  • Cecil = Santa from the most recent film of Miracle on 34th Street XD

  • My god she is magnificent

  • I Always find it funny how half way or more thru a movie , ppl press "dislike" button. Are these ppl from Mars ?? whaaatTT ??

  • @chloebella17 well actually...henry was kind of a scumbag, and i don't really think it was love on his part, mostly lust and a desire for a male heir. as for ann, it was mostly politics and how she could bring her entire family (and herself) into money and power through the connection, she was mostly a pawn. their relationship lasted until he got tired of her and she proved unable to bear a son. reality bites

  • Anne Boleyn was not a whore. She and Henry VIII loved each other. Henry probably would've divorced Catherine of Aragon anyways. I think Anne always loved Henry. Henry stopped loving Anne when he met Jane Seymour. Now Jane and Henry had true love, even though it didn't last long enough. Anne Boleyn was awesome.

  • SUBTITLES PLZ.

  • The guy talking with lord robert is a creepy motherfucker. Everytime I see his ugly face I just wanna slug it. God, hate at first sight! And the background music just makes my cringe and want to hurl. And hurl some more.

  • @tifa2733 and you managed to get to part seven, huh champ?

  • 1:37 yeah, bang up job robbie

  • what does james frian play?

  • @Hunte9753 The spainish ambassidor,

  • The film is good, but historically quite inaccurate. Not mentioning previous and future mistakes, Elizabeth knew very well that Robert was married to Amy Robsart, in fact she ws present at their wedding. And besdies, what queen would not know whether or not her favorite courtier was married?

  • when the guy says that Robert is already married, the ladys maids snap their heads up like "oh man, she is gonna kill him" and clear out as if their lives depended on it lol

  • I to speak french and he acts rather jaleous! lol... even though i am not from France, i like this movie!

  • Well, what's Cromwell doing, tarted up as the Spanish Ambassador?

  • @novascot60 LMFAO! James Frain - Master Cromwell, THE TUDORS. I love that show!!!

  • Comment removed

  • elizabeth loved robert dearly but she saw what her mother and father went through and what pain he caused his future wives through the years so couldnt do that to her heart

  • @Shyneecie Well technically this movie takes a lot of liberties too. There's not really any actual proof that they were anywhere near this close, or even romantically involved.

  • @MasterAsra very true. it strays much from historical facts.

  • Is the sequel really that bad?

  • Wow.

Reenacting the Armada getting the shit beat out of it...in front of the Spanish Ambassador...XD XD

  • who is the guy at 2:56, like what's his character name

  • @woahlookitscathy You mean the spanish geezer? That's Feria, the Spanish Ambassador

  • Oh no no no, this is wrong, Elizabeth already knew Robert Dudley was married.

  • @mckfrr To Amy Robsart, yes, not to Laetitia Knollys, they just pushedevents forward a bit.

  • She got robbed so what? Still to me its great how she plays Elizabeth and if she lost and oscar who cares . Oscar is just as corrupt as poitics so make your own judgment there.

  • i love the boats! 'spanish' 'english pirates'

  • i love how the ladies in waiting are like 'right...time to go!!' aha lol

  • Paltrow robbed Blanchett, no doubt about it. Her parents have a lot of Hollywood connections, and nepotism is rife in Hollywood.

  • your wearing a dress ...hahaha priceless!

  • @San47di1 "Perhaps he doesnt know enough English to perform the ceremony" is another sly did by her i.e. not in Latin so common people could understand it.

  • I would rather marry Monsieur de Foix (Eric Cantona) than that Duke :D All Hail King Eric Cantona!

  • Doesn't the guy with the dark curly hair play off of the Tudors?

  • @gerardbutlerlurver Yep! His name is James Frain.

    He plays Thomas Cromwell.

    Does a fine job too! : )

  • After Elizabeth realized her error in trusting Robert, I love her comeback in saying Enough of All the BS!! She ridicules Spain with the dance of the ships & Pirates over-taking them, exposes the prince of Anjor as a closeted fag, and finally says to hell with it all! LOL

  • I loved how the ladies left the room when Elizabeth heard from Sir William that Robert was married, oh, I would've left too lol.

  • That is messed up! To find out the man you have loved for a long time is married to another woman. All this time living a lie. And then that French embassador running his mouth about Elizabeth and Robert vs. Mary of Guise's nephew. I mean, come on the nephew doesn't really change her mind about Robert anyways. The nephew is so indescent.

  • I think it's funny that the Spanish bishop guy is the same actor who played Thomas Cromwell on the Tudors.

  • what are they saying in french? they speak too fast

  • i like the guy's puffy shorts. must have been fun to wear.

  • to think that elizabeth's life was safe after mary tudor's death.......i was FAR FAR wrong-

  • Robert is such a cheater! What a two timer asshole.

  • I'm french so I understand the dialogue but don't really see the point. Here's the translation: "- Don't she understand that her life depends on my consent? - My Lord, you have to understand that she's a woman. She says one thing but means something else entirely. Nobody can really open their hearts (women's hearts). - Unless you have a very big key (he laughs) - A very big key! (he screams) Yes, a very big key!" A very caricatural view on french people if you ask me! ;)

  • A prince should never flinch from being blamed for acts of ruthlessness which are necessary for safe guarding the state and their own person. You must take these things so much to heart that you do not fear to strike. Even the very nearest that you have if they be implicated.

  • To be honest, with some films that are an adaptation of a real life event, you need a bit of 'Hollywood' in it. But Elizabeth's life was so dramatic, so enthralling, that I really don't see the point in 'Hollywooding-it-up', so to speak.

  • @xxAkitoandSanaxx Good way to put it!

  • is the french ambassador Eric Cantona?

  • Yup!

  • the entire country knows yet she doesnt...i wonder what his wife thinks

  • poor elizabeth how did she not know robert was already married. she was queen after all.

  • @fleurgi well in reality she did know, she even went to the wedding, this is just hollywood bull crap

  • Sometimes a courtier's family was kept far away from court. The court and the outside world were very different.

  • LOL you guys are harsh

  • I'm confused. Who's the guy in black talking to Francis Walsingham near the end of this section of the movie?

  • same guy..must love period stuff

  • R u sure that the actor who played Cromwell in the tudors is the same actor in this movie?

  • where is cromwell in that video?? pls tell me

  • Yes, look up James Frain on IMDB.

  • For some reason the ladies in waiting scurrying out the room at the mention of Robert makes me lol.

  • It's pretty cheesy

  • i had no idea that Jame Frian (aka Cromwell in The Tudors) was in it. He certainly did pretty well for Spaniard... at 4:20

  • you "frolicate" with him! lol!

  • fornicate*

  • a very big key! LOL

  • @TheRachelProject

    The disgusting, dirty-minded frog!

  • That guy is gay?

  • He's french. They love.

  • I love the little skit with the English pirates and the Spanish.

  • great scene between Sir William and Queen Elizabeth, heartbreaking for her to find out Robert was already married..

  • Too bad it's all fiction!

  • uumm this is a biography

  • In reality, she already knew he was married - she attended the wedding!

  • it's very classy that they didn't translate the french!

  • @barkpeeler2000 They do in the film, the subtitles have been cut off in this.

  • @barkpeeler2000 except for the fact that i have no idea what they are saying...

  • @ShanaeEskimoFace Here: What they say in french in part 6: ''The Queen seems rather intimate with Lord Robert. With me, she plays a shrew, with him a lover. What then?''

And here, Anjou: ''Does she not understand that her life depends on my consent?''

The ambassador: ''You must understand she's a woman. Women say one thing but sometimes mean another. No one can truly unravel their heart!''

To what Anjou replies: ''Unless of course they have a very big key!'' (meaning his manly bits of course :P

  • @LAsexyLA Only Au Jou Sauce would say something like that...haha

  • @LAsexyLA thanks for the translation! :)

  • i think it was the document to have elizabeth executed.

  • She tried to get the queen to sign an order to execute Queen Elizabeth because he believed her to be a heretic and against the church.

  • Also, that is Queen Mary Tudor, not Marie de Medicis that doesn't sign the death warrant.

  • no probs!!!

  • the document was elizabeth's death warrent mary did not sign!!

  • i like sir william

  • Robert Dudley was married to Amy Robsart , she fell down a flight of stairs and died, he was free to marry the Queen;Amy may have committed suicide do to the pain of breast cancer. However, the resulting scandal shattered his chances in this respect. Popular rumours that he had done away with his wife continued throughout his life, despite the coroner's jury's verdict of accident. Many years later Dudley married Lettice Knollys.

There is no record, of Dudley ever being engaged to Elizabeth.

  • Yes, and I don't know why they portray Elizabeth as surprised that he is married.

  • It adds to the dramatic effect! :)

  • excuse me for my english but i'm french, so i can make the translation.

"the queen seems very private with Lord Robert, is not she ? With me she plays the shrew, with him the lover ... so what ???

Does she not understand that her life is depending on my consent ?

-my Lord, you must understand that she's a woman. they say one thing, but meen an other one. Nobody can really open there heart.

    - Unless having a very big key... A VERY BIG KEY, YES, A VERY BIG KEY !"

  • Your English is excellent !

  • Thank you for that!

  • fantastic, thanks so much denelind6manu!

  • THANK YOU! It would have been a shame to miss that excellent dialog. Wish I spoke French.

  • thank u!

  • Your English is not bad at all! Thanks for the translation.

  • @denelind6manu

Thank you for the translation. Very helpful :-)) Cheers!

  • @denelind6manu Thank you for your translation! It's very kind of you.

  • @denelind6manu Thanks that helped very much!

  • @denelind6manu Thank you so much for the translation! I'm afraid my own grasp of the French language is not strong enough to have translated it so accurately. : ) The help is most appreciated.

  • @denelind6manu thank you so much!!

  • whose the cuttie at 3:29 ?

  • I love that they just speak in French (it's so weird when people in movies of foreign countries speak English amongst themselves), but I wish they subtitled it a bit :C

  • it is subtitled on the dvd.

  • she's so alone, that's frightening

  • In real life, Elizabeth attended his wedding, she knew he was married. Kings (and well Elizabeth because she was considered the "king" of England) cared not for Marriage. A king was able to dissolve marriages and force them to marry another. She could of just raised her hand and dissolved the marriage right there... It just wouldn't bring her any supporters (which she needed)

  • Dudley was indeed married but his wife fell very conveniently from the top of a staircase. After that Elizabeth saw she would never be able to marry Dudley unless she wanted to repeat Mary Stuart's mistake, who remarried shortly after her 1st husband died. Mary Stuart was then blamed for having killed her husband.

  • Robert Dudly ws married 2 amy, but am sure she died of breast cancer, and did secretly get engaged 2 elizabeth.

  • "you can not marry sir robert.... he's already married!" ouch! that must have hurt

  • Blanchet definately deserved the oscar for this over Patrilow in Shakespeare in Love. There just wasn't much to that performance or to that movie

  • @rosebud569 here's the thing, Shakespeare in love: Better movie, Elizabeth: Better actress. they got it wrong.

  • @stitchgrl777 I hink elizabeth is better movie and better actress!!But that is just me...

  • @rosebud569 You are sooooooo right!

  • its interesting how in real life, the queen already knew Robert was married, and even went to his wedding

  • allot of the movie is inaccurate...but entertaining if that lol

  • Notice Norfolk bows less deeply when the Queen passes than the others, and when the camera cuts back he is the first to stand up straight.

  • royal intermarriage meant norfolk was very high in rank to the throne, more than just his title. that's why his rank. precedence demands Norfolk show deference. What;s strange is that elizabeth never challenged Norfolk to defend England with his army in Scotland. Norfolk would have had to choose between crown rank and religion to proceed.

  • un tres grande clef!!!! lol

  • he say "doesn't she understand that all her life depend of me?

-My lord you must understand that she 's a woman. They say somethink but they completly want to say another think.Noone can really open their heart unless you have a very big key.

    -A very big key...

  • Wat does say teh french man?? There aren't subtitles!!!

  • haha the ship dance is fabulous

  • oh no didn't lord robert i mean how could he do that to her i hate him

  • lol in real life she knew he was married - she was at the wedding!!

  • i guess if you say so lol

  • cant they have eng subs for the french bits O.O lol

  • they do have subtitles, i dont know why they were taken out in this vid

  • oooohs okays thanks

  • you'er so sexy geoffrey rush

  • oh i love the spanish ambassador! not quite sure why...

  • I dislike elizabeth because chris is beheaded.

  • who is chris?

  • hilarious play very creative with the spanish ships!! extremely entertaining

  • I want to know what the french guy is saying :(

  • me tooo

    :(

  • who plays robert?

  • Ralph Fiennes

  • Carina quella versione di Rodrigo Martinez!

  • I think the problem comes in is when we use God as a reason for our own feelings and thinking. Watching Elizabeth I see that a lot. Most of the teachings in the Bible aren't implemented in favor of telling someone they're going to go to hell if they don't think they way they do. The same goes on today.

  • I think a lot of us have an ancient vision of god, an old man sitting in the clouds. I see god as creation, love and life. Beyond anything any of us could ever imagine. The infinite can't be described by the finite. Ever. But in the end we are all one, connected and, most of us, i think, belive in the same higher power.

  • at 7:55.. why are they amazed that he shows his face at court?

  • He asked the Queen to marry him, but it would be better for the country if she married the Duke. He put his heart beofore the welfare of the country, more or less they thought he was selfish.

  • 'On a night such as this...'

Do they mean to keep using slightly adjusted lines from Shakespeare plays in the dialogue, or is just coincidence?

  • I don't know, but it's even more ironic seen as the man who plays Rbert, Ralph Fiennes, played Shakespere in "Shakespeare in Love"

  • Joseph Fiennes, but yeah, it makes it all the more weirdly connected.

  • Oh yes of course, Ralph Fiennes is someone else, silly me :)

  • Ralph Fiennes is voldemort in Harry Potter

  • Yeah, what I love about Ralph Fiennes is he looks so diffrent in all his films so it really helps you beleave he is the charector he is playing

  • Yah me know

  • This isn't ralph fiennes, it's JOSEPH fiennes, his brother..

  • i know i was correcting a mistake by katherinethequene

  • oh I'm sorry

  • why is there no subtitles when they speak french?

  • On the vhs version of the movie there are, this must be a dvd.

  • a very big key! haha that french guy is soo funny

  • Ohlala says Cantona

  • good movie so far! lol i have no idea what any of you are talking about... i need to revise history :P

  • Hmmm.. although the film makes it seem as if Elizabeth was unaware of his martial status, in truth,it is said that Elizabeth was invited to Robert Dudely's wedding when she was little.

  • That must suck -- the love of your life, married.

    oh man =(

  • I think she looks prettiest in the boat scene

  • crap, it stopped working

  • I never knew that the Spanish ambassador was also a Bishop... kinda weird...

  • when she talks to the man with the white beard, she calls him, "Sir William." is that not cecil?

  • coz his name is william cecil.

  • He was sir Willam Cecil and later became Lord Burleigh.........the man in the white beard I mean, played by Sir Richard Attenborough

  • French Duke:[It seems to me like the Queen and Lord Robert are very close, no?...With me she acts like a shrew, with him...like a lover.] Doesn't she realise that her own life depends on my consent?

French Ambassador: My Lord, you must understand: she is a woman. They can say something, and mean the exact opposite! No one can really... open up their heart.

French Duke: Yes. You would need... A really big key. [Laughs]AN ENORMOUS KEY! Yes, an enormous key! [Laughs]

  • Anyone know what the two French nobles were talking about in the last 15 seconds of the last clip and in the first 15 seconds of this one?

  • "Does a queen not sit under the same stars as any other women?" Brilliant. I love her?

  • so sad about her and Lord Robert

  • yes, she and robert never married which is sad, but they did remain devoted to each other until his death (which nearly destroyed her) despite his secret marriage to her cousin and her other 'favourites'.
