so whats the diffrence between a heat sink and a fan,sorry im curantly on my fisrt pc build anyone got any tips?

heat sink goes over the cpu and the fan goes on top of the heat sink. the heatsink helps move all the warm air from the cpu and push it out using the help of the fan
the heat sink part is the copper coils..the metal part..
the fan is just the fan on the top..but all together people call the whole thing a heat sink :)

i destroyed my previous CPU by
1. applying pressure on the heatsink
2. scratching the CPU
3. breaking something, still dont know what.
