Talking is not the same as appeasement! People need to do some reading or shut up! Also, I'm sure Huckabee would say or do anything if he thought it might get him closer to the White House...friggin' unprincipled sellout. Screw Bush and McCain - neither of them care about the Constitution and are not worthy of the seat of President.
Democrats need to read up on their history... Appeasement has always failed. Just look at the Munich Conference that ended up STARTING WWII. Neville Chamberlain sat down with one of the most evil people in the history of the world, Adolf Hitler, without pre-conditions after Hitler started to invade Poland... Look that up, Edwards!
The only Appeaser here is George W Bush, when he gave away our soliders, for mid east oil in return! That's appeasement my friends! When you give in to the enemy for something in return! I'll give you my soilders, you give me you oil! THAT'S APPEASEMENT!!!
okay...i heard the comment, but i dont' get it. can someone explain to me why everyone is so upset with bush's comment. i'm really trying to understand this. i don't know if it's g.w. bush just speaks that type of jargon but i totally missed what he was saying. please help.
dejuanp: It's because Dick Cheney once implied that anyone who votes for a Democrat is a traitor, and an appeaser of terrorists. Bush has no mind of his own; he's simply reading the neo-con script. I agree that this comment is not so direct or inflammatory on the surface; but just read between the lines.
bob: thanks for the comment. yeah, bush can be this way or this type of president and remain in office for eight years. it's like the quality of reality tv shows they're showing nowadays. it's like a slap in the face to people who actually want to see some good tv. well, imo.
dejuamp: I appreciate your comments. I am so turned off that this campaign has been going on for two years. I've got primaries fatigue and the news is just churning up gossip and crap: screw 'em all.
Why not have the British system -- vote of no confidence, three week campaign, new leader. I am convinced that the 18th century framers of the Constitution channelled into the 21st century, and created this mess just so the TV pundits could have employment.
Because, apparently, Obama thinks every time a Republican says something bad at ANYONE, he apparently thinks the Republican is directly attacking him. Obama seems a little touchy about appeasement issues. He's handling this very badly.
homs, If you can't figure it out for yourself, then you should probably sit out the next election and head back to college. Appeasement and discussion of vital world interests are NOT the same thing.
Of course the Dumbest and undoubtedly Worst Pres of the US, Bush, was talking about Obama. True, the Repubes are the party of the incurably ignorant but at least 'try'.
Sounds like you're pretty Impressed with the diplomatic and strategic efforts of Bush, right? Smells like success, eh?
Let's go back to our college days and examine the pros and cons of the Bush Adm. A cost/benefit Analysis would reveal an overwhelming landside of more negative attriubutes then positive. If the Bush Administration was an organization competeting in today's business world, the whole board of directors would be fired, outside audits and oversite would need to occur and a marketing firm would have to clear the name of that failing business. And as for the CEO, prison time for lying to shareholders!
No. You are not Jewish. You are an American. American interests come first. What AMERICAN interest is served when we blindly support Israel? What do American citizens get out of the deal?? Israel has no oil, they don't fight in wars with our troops. Israel does not spend its treasures in pitching in for costly military campaigns. On top of that America gives Israel billions of dollars although it is a wealthy nation. Please promote the welfare of American citizens first.
lmaoooo its soo funy to listen to these fukers n their terms that dont even make sense n the slightest bit! didint she say somethin about an antree??? that one came outta left field lol havent they heard the MCSAME AS BUSH ADS????? I KNO IVE SEEN A MILLION TIMES,.. DO THEY NOT WATCH TELEVISION? LIKE THEIR ALL SURPRISED,.. YO AND I THOUGHT BUSH WAS GOING OVER TO ONE OF THE OIL FIELDS TO TALK ABOUT LOWERING THE GAS PRICES..? APPRENTLY IT WAS A CELBRATION! he laughed "hahahaBITCHES"
Please , for every HONEST person in America to do his / her best to rescue our country from our enemies and the enemies of life such as: Bush , McCain and every son of ..... else.
ARF Security security security arf arf arf! Enough of that Shit, look at the debt & deficit because of a shameful war - based on mere lies - that costs $ 12.000.000.000.00 per month. all this money is on the cost of Tax Payers that needs years of suffering to be paid off. Look around to see how affordable food prices are in order realize how secure we are!! Not only that, but also, with this cost, they even failed to steel Oil from Iraq to make it affordable for us to buy gas.
Pretty damn ironic for Bush to make comments about appeasement given his own family's history regarding Nazi Germany. Look up his grandfather's dealings with the Nazis.
True that many people did business with the German leader Hitler, including the zionists, highjacker of Palestine and not only bush's granddady. Now you are very close to get it and it takes only 3 questions: 1- what kind of business? 2- who did that business. 3- what that business led to? I'm sure you'll get it as soon as you get the real answers to these 3 question. By the way, did you look for ( Paul Findley )?
These are some samples of mouthpieces of Israel and its AIPAC , regardless of being Democrates or Republicans. Yes, it is clearer that Republican actors, like Bush, McCain and others have exceeded the non returning point of submission to Israel and its lobbies in USA , including Zionist Oil companies and Banks, but Democrates are in the same boat too! For American people to realize that they are sold out for Illegal Founded State of Israel and should find out an exit.
Clear that you are just one of those who do not know their biological father. So, you did not find somebody to show you how to think on your own and that led you to where you are. Enjoy your stupidity and sleep on your belly!
Actually, I have come to my own conclusions on this matter. The President has made lots of mistakes, even in HOW the war has been fought in Iraq. However the strategy of invading Iraq has made us safer and prevented further attacks. The proof will be if a Democrat president removes our troops too soon and we are then attacked.
Let us think objectively, ok? Please remember that Iraq had nothing against us. So why that association between Iraq and us being safer? Have you thought about why more than 800.000 Iraqi had to be killed? were they deserve life as we do? Also, what about our troops who got killed? Please advise and thanks in advance.
First, you need to realize that Iraq invade Kuwait who is an ally of the US, a strategic partner in the region, and an oil rich nation. After we lead the coalition that threw Saddam out of Kuwait, he had everything against us.
Before we invaded Saddam had violated the terms of the cease-fire, was starving his own people, and had to be restrained (no-fly zones) from killing his opposition. People were dying in Iraq long before we invaded. As for our troops, they get paid to defend us.
Try to think and not to follow the media and think of what is right for us as people, working people of America. Media represents the interests of evil in our country, ok?
1- Saddam was considered a ( Hero) while he fought Iran and we sold him a lot of weapons. 2- Yes, he invaded Kuwait, while we ( USA Government) used the tribal undemocratic government of Kuwait against Iraq while Israel and its lobby in America used us to destroy Iraq on its behalf!!
I am not following the media because they are all against the President. Saddam was never considered a hero, only a useful tool to counter Iran. He invaded Kuwait and threatened our sources of oil from the Middle East. It has nothing to do with Israel.
4951WEDDEL, WHEN will you guys ever respect what land we have? We now have corporations blowing up mountain tops for crying out loud! Shouldn't we start focusing on alternative fuel? The only benefit from drilling would be for Exxon. Exxon has no less than 140 front groups claiming global warming is not real. We attack an oil rich country, rattle swords to another oil rich company claim Chavez is evil, another oil rich company then give N.Korea tons of food. U don't see the obvious?
You are the one who does not want to face the facts. We have been trying to find an alternative fuel for decades. There are none that a economically feasible. That is a fact.
Don't even get me started on "Global Warming". In fact, you need to update your terminology. It is "Global Climate Change" now since we have found the world is not getting warmer.
If you hate oil then fine, but until you invented a substitute that works, we need to drill for oil on our own soil.
" .. threatened our sources of oil ... " those are your exact words ! Last week, the most evil being of our time , Bush asked the son of a ..... king Abdulla of the so called Saudi Arabia to increase oil production, in order to lower the price of gas for us - in USA - for our cars !! As if Abdulla is responsible about the recession of our economy, caused by Bush himself. the question is : Whom we should ask his help to control the price of milk around $4.00 per gallon? Think some.
What terms Saddam violated? You imagin, somebody, whoever he is, enforced us to fly here and not to fly there, can we abide such terms?
3- However, we destroyed Iraq and killed at least 600.000 Iraqi in the first war. 4- The evil of power in America wanted to steel the Oil from Iraq and they told us all possible lies to mislead us to fight Iraq, as you know or at least you should know.
If you start a war, lose it, and surrender, you accept the terms given you. Personally, I would never have left the man in power, but that's the deal the President (Bush 1) made with the UN to get them to go along. We did not destroy Iraq. Iraq destroyed itself by invading Kuwait.
The only lies were the ones Saddam told the inspectors. We could not risk being wrong about his WMDs or his seeking to acquire them. Face it, you would not have supported the war if we would have found tons of them.
Also, stop misleading other by repeating this lie too. Please review what Joe wilson truthfully said "there is weapons of mass distruction and how those bastards retaliated from him by revealing the name of his wife Valerie. Is it clear some? I hope so.
Joe Wilson is a confirmed liar. The whole thing with his wife was a stunt. She was never really covert. Everyone in Washington knew what she did and who she did it for.
4951WEDDEL Joe Wilson? Man, don't go there lol. Look, Bush & co. outed a C.I.A op. PLEASE DON'T USE the talking points about her not being covert etc. The fact of the matter is it put other ops as well as our country & many others in serious danger. YEARS of work down the drain. That is what is called a traitor. Spin it all you want, I respect your opinions & hope you call a spade a spade in this case. If this were a democrat all hell would have broke loose. Bush/Cheney/Rove are traitors.
First, we know who outed her. It was not Rove, Bush or Cheney. Second, she was not covert according to the law. Third, if one does not want attention as an agent, tell your husband not to write opt-ed articles.
Tell me, who was it that leaked the Abu Grib investigation to the press, or the Surveillance program? If you want to start talking traitor, look no further than the Democrats in congress. They have done anything and everything to insure defeat in Iraq.
" Joe Wilson is a confirmed liar" ???!!!! You left nothing for me but to say : Shame on you to say that about an honest, truthful and respectable American man like Joe Wilson. That makes doubt your choice of supporting evil Vs Good. Please think about the majority of Americans and their daily suffering from food prices. also, stop supporting the elit evil of power, unless you are one of them.
He is a document liar as is his wife. She said, and he confirmed it, that she had nothing to do with HIM getting the job of going Niger. In fact, she wrote a memo recommending him for the trip. He also lied to the Senate intelligence committee as well.
5- Our troops are used as hit men, not to defend us, as Iraq had done nothing against us in the reality, regardless of their feeling was against us or not, as we can not judge people based on what we assume they are against us.
6- Think of this ( McCain visited Israel as soon as he got the nomination of his party) Did you think about why he did that? Simply, the problem is that our politicians are toys between the fingers of Israel and its lobby. I hope it is clear enough.
Everybody knew that there was no terrorists in Iraq. Please respect your own mind, before respecting the minds of others. If you like to repeat these lies, I'll have nothing to do but to hope for the best for you.
I never said there were terrorists in Iraq. Pay attention! I said there are terrorists there NOW. That is why we invaded. We have forced them to confront our military in another country with a predominately Muslim population.
Did you hear that son of a bitch who is trying to find a justfication and said ( Israel with its Nuke is under threat)!? I see that Bush said that statement to gain the Israeli approval for himself and McCain. Also, most of Democrates are on the same track and I realy doubt John Edward to say the word " extraordinary stat" of Israel if he was running for office. Please read the former congressman ( Paul Findley ) who wrote ( they dare to speak out ) in how Israel uses our politicians.
Bush & MOST Republicans are not only out of touch but they are HYPOCRITES! Bush negotiated with Libya & N. Korea HE appeased the latter with tons of food! Now, he goes to the Saudis last week & gives them a nukular DEAL and what happens? We get HIGHER gas prices ONCE AGAIN! I think Bush is as Un-American as any terrorist. What did he do give them the green light to make his oil buddies more money while the world suffers from HIGH food & gas prices? It's really sad! Bush is a FRAUD!
Actually, Libya folded because we invaded Iraq. They did not want the same thing to happen to them. North Korea was given a pass by Clinton because they promised not to develop nuclear weapons. That left the mess to the President. As for oil and gas prices, it is called the free market. World demand for oil is rising quickly. This is what is driving the price up.
@4951weddel. Any democratic gvt looking to neutralise any threats should show the lead and try to resolve the matter in a civilised way. If you believe that America is under threat because of some jealous terrorist then you got it all wrong. It is because of America's failed foreign policies and experts admit this. Violence beggets violence so if you solve any threat by shedding blood then blood will be spilled on both side.Since terrorist are not an organised army, good luck in destroying them!
Some are saying "we haven't been attacked since 911" "Bush knows how to fight terrorism". What a shame that they don't see the FACT that we were attacked ON BUSH'S WATCH & he couldn't even rescue his own after Katrina hit! We are NOT safer. If all you do is cling to your frickin'GUNS for safety & fear then you have got some problems. This so called war on terrorism is more like a global position for corporate control & profit. This fake war has made many companies very rich. Bush sucks period.
The fact is that we have not been attacked since 911. You cannot dispute that so you attempt to distract. Katrina has nothing to do with terrorism. There was nothing the President could do about it. The Democratic governor and mayor are the ones to blame for any deaths. FEMA moves slow because it is a FEDERAL AGENCY. Congress is the one who piles on the rules and the policies, screams for efficiency, and complains about waste later. The war on terrorism is a real war we are winning. For now???
PLEASE DONT READ THIS. YOU WILL GET KISSED ON THE NEAREST POSSIBLE FRIDAY BY THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE. TOMORROW WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. HOWEVER IF YOU DONT POST THIS COMMENT TO AT LEAST 3 VIDEOS YOU WILL DIE WITHIN 2 DAYS. NOW UV STARTED READIN DIS DUNT STOP THIS IS SO SCARY. No dude, it's just that when you finally think the shrub can't go any lower....that does surprise me. Remember when he said he was going to restore dignity to the office? What a (bad)joke.
What diplomatic efforts were extended to terrorist groups.
Our policy is never to speak to terrorist groups.
That's like saying a gun safety class didn't prevent the Columbine Shootings.
Some people are crazy and worse some people can be convinced to act in a crazy way. The big problem with people around the world is they don't meet "real americans" real average people that are good nice people. They only see images of America the war machine. In media you are what you portray.
hassleoffa, your policy is to deal with the Chinese government regardless of what they are doing to the people of Tibet. Your policy is to go to war under false premises and without congressional agreement. Your policy is to lock people in Guantanamo bay for years without charges or trial.
Please don't lecture us about your policies and America should stick to them because 9/11 is proof that your policy don't work. And if it ain't working, fix it!
I'm sorry but that's not what I meant at all. I didn't say not talking to people was a good thing. I simply meant "we don't talk to anyone now." My whole point about talking to real americans is that we should be far more diplomatic and stop posturing as the big bad war machine.
I'm going to say it was late and what my brain was thinking never made it to my fingers.
Hell yes it was appropriate to make the statements! The man is standing in the middle of the Knesset on its country's 60th birthday, a birthday that would never have happened under the thinking of Barack Obama - a guy that is so naive as to think that us not talking to Iran is "CAUSING" Iran to give weapons to Hezbollah and Hamas???
It wasn't a cheap inappropriate move - it was completely necessary and it's the democrats' BIGGEST weakness and it will cause there loss yet again...fine by me.
AdamSonOfJohn, of course your would defend Bush since you are a Jew. I hope American understand that they general election shouldn't be about who's gonna suck up to Israel the most but about what can their leader do to solve their national crisis.
It's not about sucking up - it's about protecting an entire race of people from genocide by anti-semitic fucks like Ahmedinejad, The Nazis, and EuroDick FAGS like you. America is in no national crisis - Israel is.
And go fuck yourself you racist prick. I thought Europeans were supposed to be more open minded and welcoming.
America is in no crisis? Go and say that to the average American suffering the credit crunch and the foreclosure of their homes. Israel is in crisis? So what? What does it have to do with the everyday American? They already give millions of their hard earned dollars to Israelis. Only the welfare of America should matter during a national election. I didn't say anything racist you drama queen, Israelis like to play the victims since world war 2 but it doesn't work anymore coz People understand!
Calling me a "jew" wasn't fucking racist? I'm not even a jew. And no - America is absolutely in no crisis no matter how much the people who currently are not in power would LOVE to get you to think it is.
What the President said was absolutely true. Truth does not stop at the water's edge. Israel has learned the hard lesson through their own appeasement of terrorists. The only way this was an attack on anyone is if those individuals believe in appeasement of terrorists.
you inbred retard. do you understand the difference between talking, and appeasement? obviously not. appeasement is giving things away to the enemy, talking to them is not giving anything away. anyone who thinks bush is right on this issue needs to consider the downhill slide this country has taken since bush adopted this "tough guy" policy. we are the most hated country in the world right now because of bush's refusal to use diplomacy. we are less safe now than ever before.
Sure, I understand the difference! One gets you and others killed, and the other does not. I do not care if we are hated in the world, though I seriously doubt we are. The President has used diplomacy, just not face to face talks.
If we are not safer, then why have the terrorists not attacked again since 911?
495, You SHOULD care if the US is hated throughout the world and yes, it is true. Presently there are but a handful of countries that are supportive of the US and it's actions with even fewer Americans approving of this admin. 80% disapprove of America's present course.
Bush has NEVER used realistic diplomacy, he is at odds with the UN and the modern world. He occasionally sends Condi to make the rounds and her success rate is ZERO. Not one achievement.
Why should I care if the world hates the US? What have they ever done for us except come begging for money for this or that cause! The President used diplomacy and the UN. What we discovered was the UN was corrupt (Oil for Food), and most countries are too scared to stand up to terrorists. I will take FEAR over respect any day.
Obviously you cannot read. I was speaking about the world fearing us. I don't live in fear because I have a President that understands how to fight terrorists, not appease them.
The world no longer fears America. Before we invaded Iraq, there was a perception abroad that America could snap its fingers and the world would heel. But after seeing the mess we made in Iraq, our forces stretched to the breaking point, and our inadvertent strengthening of Iran and Al Queda's influence in the Middle East, nobody believes that anymore. Bush played his hand wrong, completely wrong, and we are much less safe for it. But you can keep drinking the cool aid, if you want to.
If we are less safe, then why hasn't this strengthen Al Queda attacked us again? What are they waiting for? Terrorism only works if you demonstrate an ability to strike at will! Most Americans have forgotten 911 and it has little or no effect on us now.
That's the stupidest thing I've heard all year. "Most Americans have forgotten 911 and it has little or no effect on us now." You really are on the cool aid. And the fact that we haven't been attacked on US soil yet has much more to do with police action in dozens of countries around the world to break up Al Queda networks than anything Bush has done. There were no Al Queda in Iraq before we invaded. They're there now and they have gained sympathy and support throughout the Middle East.
To continue, if you think we're safe, just wait until Iran, emboldened by Bush's folly in Iraq, gets the bomb. Just wait until Pakistan, which already has it, falls into the hands of extremists, in part because Bushie boy stupidly put all of his eggs in Musharriaf's tottering basket.
If Iran gets the bomb, then we blow it up. If Pakistan goes extremist then we blow them up as well. No one can withstand our military when we take the gloves off.
Oh we'll just blow them up. Gee wouldn't that be nice and easy? Too bad things in the real world don't work out quite that way. Too bad life's not a cut and dried John Wayne movie. We've seen the results of using bluster and machismo in Bush diplomacy. Total disaster.
You have still not yet given me your solution to the problem. How do you compromise with someone who has no morality? Do you think we should let terrorists dictate our foreign policy? Once you given in, the terrorism never stops.
I'm not talking about compromising with terrorists! I'm talking about beating them by using good common sense and smart diplomacy and tactics informed by a good reading of history and a good understanding the world's different cultures and political systems. You say bomb, bomb, like a genocidal maniac. The trouble with bombs is that innocents get killed too. You say bomb, I say there's more than one way to skin a cat. But it takes brains, understanding and cunning, something Bush & Co never had.
There may be more than one way to skin a cat, but in the end, the cat dies. You lack a fundamental understanding of terrorism, why and how it is used. I am not saying bomb in every instance, but in many cases, it is the only alternative. Yes, innocents get killed sometimes. A sad reality of this present world.
I am not anti war at all & I think many will agree that it has to happen sometimes. But why the Iraq war? The obvious reason is oil, I didn't buy that at first but after researching & watching all these crazy events happen it is obvious. Look Saddam was about to do away with the dollar some say we invaded for that reason. Call me nuts but that would be a good reason for me because it would have crippled us. However, that wasn't the case and now many countries are building arms because of us.
There were many reasons for the invasion of Iraq. First and foremost was his refusal to comply with the inspections and monitoring of his WMD programs. He was not selling enough oil to worry about whether he got paid in dollars or Euros.
Terrorism is a tactic, not a movement per se. I understand it perfectly well. But you seem to lack a fundamental understanding of how the rest of the world (outside the US) functions. Perhaps you should get out and travel more? Nothing broadens the mind more, as they say. Of course, the cat dies. That's the point. But the end does not justify the means. You don't need to, nor should you, set the whole barnyard on fire.
I have traveled outside of the United States. It has served to given me a greater appreciation for my country. The fact is you don't understand terrorism. It is a tactic used by those who lack the political or military power to achieve their objectives, and possess no moral or civil values. There is no negotiating with such people. They blow up women and children INTENTIONALLY. They TORTURE for torture sake. They cannot be reasoned with or frightened by punishment. All you can do is kill them.
No this is the stupidest thing I have heard all year. "There were no Al Queda in Iraq before we invaded. They're there now and they have gained sympathy and support throughout the Middle East." You have missed the whole point. This is one of the reasons we invaded, to draw Al Queda to Iraq. Better to have our military engage them there then have them attacking us here.
You are just wrong about sympathy. They are blowing up fellow Muslims now and losing support both inside and outside Iraq.
4951WEDDEL said "This is one of the reasons we invaded, to draw Al Queda to Iraq" How many reasons is that now 1,000? So we draw people into an oil rich country that was NOT a threat so our troops can get killed? Then complain about Iran because they are supplying weapons & they happen to be an oil rich country? Let's not forget another so-called enemy in another OIL rich country Chavez! Do u NOT see a pattern? All but the Saudis are enemies yet the terrorists came from there. How f'ed up is that
Better our troops fighting terrorists in a Muslim country than having our own people attacked and killed here. Saddam was violating the terms of the cease-fire agreement from Gulf War 1 so we removed him. There can be more than one reason for doing something. The Saudis did not invade Kuwait,Iraq did.
Don't feed me the "draw them into Iraq" BS. It's absolutely laughable because it's simply not true. Bush and Co were the fools. They played right into Bin Laden's hands by invading Iraq, which created enormous animosity in the Middle East against the US. Prior to the invasion, the US was seen as a supporter of Israel to be sure, but also as an even-handed broker who was respected. That all changed with the invasion and Bush's stupid cowboy diplomacy. He doesn't even have clout with Saudis now!
I don't know what you mean by BS because it is a fact that the terrorists are coming to Iraq in droves. The last thing Bin Laden wanted was for us to invade Iraq. It demonstrated to him and the rest of the Middle East that we are not going to be a passive target for terrorists. We have forced terrorists to do what they are not trained for, fighting soldiers.
As for clout with the Saudis, there is only so much a President can do.
It's a fact that our invasion of Iraq has bred and continues to breed anti-American sentiment and extremism around the world. Islamists just won 24 seats out of 50 in the Kuwaiti Parliament. In places where moderate, democratic voices once looked to the US to help them advance, they are now running from us because we have become a liability to them. The extremist are reaping the rewards. Bush's foreign policy has been a complete and total disaster.
I will grant you that in the short term our invasion give the terrorists some propaganda for recruiting. Let them recruit, as long as we are killing them in Iraq, who cares. In the long term, a free and democratic Iraq will cut off their recruiting eventually. This is why they are opposing us there.
4951WEDDEL, let's not forget that we assassinated a democratically elected leader in Iran when he decided to nationalize oil. Yes terror recruiting is way up, in fact the largest ever. THE SAVAGES are using women & children. Had Bush & the Dems done things right we'd be much further ahead on this so-called war on terror. As it was a small group of radicals. We could have worked covertly with many countries and eradicated them. But I guess Halliburton & Exxon couldn't wait. They made BILLIONS!
Realistically, there was no way to stop the terrorists by playing only defense. We could not risk another attack like 911. The invasion has done what it was designed to do. Force the terrorists to fight our military on foreign soil.
A free and democratic Iraq? In the long term? Sure, maybe in a couple hundred years. Maybe. For many in the Maliki government, which BTW we are supporting in Iraq, democracy is like toilet paper. You use it once, then you throw it away. As for the terrorists, the idea should not be to 'bring it on," until we have no more bullets left to shoot. We should be working to curb extremism, not helping Bin Laden breed more terrorists.
Well, if it takes a couple of hundred years, then it does. The government there is democratically elected by the people. People who voted in spite of the terrorist threats. People who are volunteering to serve as soldiers and police.
Intelligent response. Let me concede a little here. The Republicans cottling of the oil companies has manufactured an outragoeus dependence on imported oil (often from hostile countries). We should have generated a cost effective alternative fuel source by now (not one that is based on 'food' that shortens suppllies and engineers famine). That's on them for buffering the oil companies the last 40 years! And we NEED to create that alternative source...
Weaseldog2001, let me also say this. If we can 'talk' Iran, Syria and North Korea out of creating a nuclear weapons capability to avert WWIII, then so be it! That would be a far more desirable approach than war (which may yet be necessary... Unfortunately... I hope not... Screw the neo-cons!). And I pray that we can ween ourselves off of oil after this current debacle. (It's ridiculous to found the economy on oil!)...
But I have to go. This has been fun. Good responses. Best of luck to ya'!!!
That is a very valid point, which is my point about refinery capacity and effective production...
Either and any, though there isn't a 'good alternative', yet, I believe we are capable of creating just such a source...
'Necessity is the mother of invention'.
That is based more on faith than logic, but I 'believe' that it is more than possible through American 'ingenuity' (if the 'oil lobbies' artificial interventions are kept at bay!)...
Oh this is what gets their panties in a bunch. What about an illegal war ? What about taking our right away ? What about any number of things Bush SHOULD have been impeached for ? Don't fucken stand up and act like you got balls now because your going after something as stupid as this shit.
Well, he's just a puppet on a string. Tell him what to say, and he'll say it. Boys picking a fight, and making some headlines. Funny thing about politics...it's full of politicians.
what's most appalling is this dipshit southern hillbilly, fuckabee has been making some of the most idiotic, non-christian, stupid, insensitive statements ever, & he's a fucking minister. yeah right the south's version of a minister, certainly not christ's version!
this backward son of a bitch is running for vice president. i hope mcfilp-flopper chooses him so we can watch him make more idiotic prejudice, southern so called "christian" statements during the campaign.
I can't believe this many American's trust Obama! It blows my mind! And his wife is just now proud to an American! Thats what people want incharge of this great country? PLEASE!
It's Not That They Trust Obama More Than They Would Any Other Politician, It's That They Trust McCain LESS Than Any Other Politician...
Hmmm.... In A Choice Between Warmonger And Someone Who Claims He'll Change Washington.... Well We Know We Can't Afford More Wars... Let's Try The Guy Who Has A Dream... He Can't Be Any Worse Than What We Have Now
It's obvious Bush was talking about Obama, his own staffers made a point of telling reporters that he was referring to Obama in his speech. After the blow up over this, they changed their story and said he was talking about Pres. Carter.
Bush's own Sec. of State and Defense say we should talk to Iran. McCain said in 06 we should deal with Hamas. There's a video on here where James Baker said TALKING is not the same as appeasement and we should be willing to talk to our enemies.
Its dummy Bush, more loyal to his Neo-Cons cronies and big oil Saudis and the likes. What did we expect? Respect for the country and its domestic policy?
If he at lease understood the concept of appeasement which began with British Conservative party in 1933/39....perhaps he would not have let his speech-writer embarrass him.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I find it amusing of the pathetic overreaction on the part of Obama and the DEMS. Bush named no names, and even Obama stated that Bush was not talking to him directly. But the guilt and the silly sensitivity of the DEMS is idiotic, and these are the same cry babies that want to take the white house?! Kevin James is typical hyped up Lawyer with a big mouth, he has no business in politics! And Chris Matthew wants to be a historian? LMAO Both are idiots!
Could you upload the whole speech? I hate the less than 1 min clip. Again, John MacCain may be a diplomatic hawk, but he is not a militarist. And he is certainly not another Bush in terms of military, diplomatic or even economic strategies.
true, but he's out. move over gop'ers. it's time to let someone else try their hand at making the world better. you guys have failed. it's not personal, it's business.
He flips on so many issues, it's a little hard to predict what he is. Against tax breaks, now for them. Against his own immigration bill. I guess it depends on which McCain you remember. I know things are taken out of context, but McCain is guilty of that too.
Didn't this administration talk to Lybia to get them to stop making nuclear weapons. If I'm mistaken, didn't Lybia have a role in the bombing of airplane in Scottland? Aren't we talking to Iran right now?
Hey Rebublicans, haven't the last three congressional loses shown you that we are not falling for your crap anymore.
Can't wait for the first Obama/McCain debate...we are going to have to get McCain one of those boxing helmets they use in olympic bouts...that and a mouth piece to keep him from biting off his tounge...
McCain truly has the republican base confused and angry. First he embraces the concept of Global Climate Change...then he boots the lobbyists out of his team...now this...
Iran is a country whose defense spending is less than 1% of our own; spends less on its military than countries such as the Netherlands and Sweden; has never invaded another country in modern history, and could not possibly threaten us
Ya' know. The 'oil banner' is running a bit thin with Bush pleading the Sa'ud Family to increase oil supplies and gas prices at $4.25 per gallon...
I'm sure that the leftists will continue to sip on that 'purple Kool-Aid' but your going to have a tough time convincing the center of that paradigm until gas prices come down (which is nowhere in sight)...
Saddam appeased Bush? You're serious, right?...
Saddam held out like a defiant child up until start of the 'Shock & Awe' campaign!!!
Go back and read the news reports during the period. Saddam kept caving and Bush kept announcing that he didn't cave.
Do you think that Bush will start bombing his business partners in Saudi Arabia, if they don't lower oil prices? Do you think Oilman Bush is upset about his profits?
Bush is just a Big Ole' Pander Bear. Many people like Pander Bears. They think they are cute and cuddly.
Did you know that con artists always tell you what you want to hear, and appeal to your greed?
I don't even like Bush. I am a Conservative. Not a Neo-Conservative. I despise the Woodrow Wilson (D) manufactured concept of 'democratizing the world at the point of a gun, while policing the necessary conflicts'.
But the fact remains, Saddam Hussein tried to play 'possum' to the very last moment. He restricted Hans Blix and the UN investigators from an unhindered open investigation and would only allow them in on his time and terms...
That's all the excuse that the neo-con's needed!!!
The Pentagon guys on the mainstream radio shows never bothered too. they just made stuff up and repeated it ad-infinitum. Anyone could've read those reports in 2002-2003 and seen through the BS. But few people fact check what they hear on the radio or see on TV.
Not only has North Korea continued there own nuclear weapons programs, but while Bush was 'appeasing' them, they were developing a program for Assad in Syria!
Thanks for that one...
I am a conservative (not a neo-con). I am fully opposed to the CIA's intervention in foreign conflicts w/ their attendant aid & manipulation of 'thugs' who we later have to fight in the same countries that we became involved in!
This is because it isn't appeasement, it is called cutting deals.
The word 'Appeasement' in my view, puts the argument in simplistic black and white terms. Sure it makes great sound bites, but it leads to really stupid and tortured logic.
Diplomacy works most of the time, and sometimes it doesn't. If it always failed, we'd have no friends or family. We would just beat on people that don't submit.
Bush hates diplomacy, so it doesn't work for him. He's just a bully with a big stick.
What you're saying is that Hitler was a goodly and worshipful angel that would've put Mother Teresa to shame if Neville Chamberlain hadn't turned him to the dark side?
I don't buy the theory of Neville Chamberlain as a Sith Lord. that he started WWII. That just sounds stupid.
Do you believe then that Condileeza Rice's and Robert Gates efforts at Diplomatic Relations With Iran, will start WWIII? Do you believe that Bush's attempts to appease the evildoers will blowback on us?
Aww. See. That's cute. Chamberlain was not the catalyst for Hitler's atrocities, he was the enabler!!!
Chamberlain, with his eager liberal naievete', was all too willing to be led into a false sense of security by a 'monster' who used the 'peacetime' to mobilize and strengthen his military, while Britain sat on their hands and was completely unready to mobilize in France or Scandinavia when the time came! (Let alone, Poland)...
'Trust but verify'... 'Trust but verify'... 'Trust but verify'
Why would Britain mobilize in France, Scandinavia or Poland?
You do realize that these nations were not British colonies, right?
Are you saying that the British should have gone to war with these countries first?
Who have you been listening to on the radio? Is this what Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are saying now? That Britain should have invaded France first?
Wow! Could you put the 'doobie' down for a moment...
Britain should have engaged the Nazi's in those areas so that the war would not have grown to the epic proportions that Chamberlain through his 'appeasement' aided-paradigm of non-intervention allowed it to grow to!!!
Let's move onto 'oil' and 'Haliburton'. American oil companies are generally refiners of the oil that we generally get from foriegn suplliers (Canada, Mexico, OPEC, etc).
Before this war is over, the Democratic Appeasers will be letting Bush II start a war with Iran.
The next President will be forced to bring back the draft, for a war with no mission, no objectives. It will eventually spread throughout the ME. I worry about my younger relatives that are going to be of draft age.
So in a way I agree with you. Just not on WWII. I do hate the hypocrisy of appeasers pointing fingers.
When Exxon pumps oil in Nigeria, ships in Exxon owned tankers to the US. Refines it in an Exxon owned refinery, then sells it at an Exxon Gasoline station, are they still getting 10%?
No. Obviously the margin is much higher. But the importation of oil; it's sequential refinement; and then sell to the general public through gas stations brings about a 3% to 5% profit margin. The oil companies derive the higher margin from their own oil extraction, but that is not the majority base of their revenue! If they were allowed to build more refineries and extract more oil, they would be happy (utltra-profitable) and we would have $1.25 gas!
Too many 'Ted Kacyzinski' sympathizers in the liberal 'Earth First' enivironmental movement are willing to revert this country back into a 'donkey and cart' transportation medieval economy because they consitently block the building of new 'oil refineries'; the synthesis of coal to oil (because of 'carbon' emissions that can be technologically averted); new exploration and extraction of oil in the US; and a bolstered conversion to nuclear power (which France has successfully completed)!!!
Furthermore, imagine the number of lives that could have been saved had Britain and France prepared for the Nazi's and taken Hitler at his word (especially the words that he used with the Germans). But they were all too willing to 'appease' Hitler and accept his treaty promises, while being lulled into a false security that Hitler used to strengthen and mobilize his military for the occupation of Europe!
The words of Achmedenijad (the Mullahs), Assad and Jong-Il are replications of Hitler's!
Where are you getting these nutty conspiracy theories from? Rush Limbaugh? I bet you can't provide documentation for any these conspiracy theories. The oil industry can do anything they want. and what they want is what bolsters their bottom line.
And why do you think gasoline price should be dirt cheap? Are you a communist that doesn't believe in capitalism? Do you want Exxon nationalized?
They charge what the market will bear. You should be glad they are making a profit.
The oil refineries are running at 'overload' capacities! (At or near 250% to 300% of ideal economic equilibrium points). It is the environmental movement that has blocked the manufacturing of new refineries that would give way to increase production to meet a higher supply demand that would in turn bring higher profits to them and lower gas for us.
If they were the majority supplier instead of the majority refiner, your assertions would be valid!
I keep hearing this rumor from Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, but I never find supporting documentation in the oil industry news.
I have read articles that detail reasons why the oil industry feels it is not worthwhile to build new refineries. One reason being that they expect production to begin declining. So there is no future need for the refineries.
Also, they like the current profits. If they built new refineries, their costs would go up and prices would drop. Their profits would drop.
The oil companies have not been allowed to build a new refinery since the early 1980's. The maintenance costs that are constantly spent to keep up the refineries that are being used at well beyond ideal capacity are astronomical!
More production and more effective refinement with smaller maintenance/repair costs leads to higher profit margins...
But the EPA and the environmental lobby likes to stand in the way...
We already have refineries south of the border. They are what keeps the US economy from tumbling into a depression. If the OPEC manufactured (via Brazilian and Chinese demand) 'oil bubble' does not burst before $200 a barrell, we will be in dire straits!!!
The lack of foresight by environmental regulators to see the emerging Chinese and Brazilian economies and their willingness to buy at almost any cost is beyond RIDICULOUS...
And the worst part is they have been warned for 20 years!!!
is far from being met! Profit margins and the general economic welfare are conducive to this point being met, but it has been artificially hijacked by OPEC and the world supply amounts!
It's simple, when you gain most of your revenue from oil refinement, more production and effective capacity means more profits and cheaper gas!
More domestic extraction means higher profit margins and cheaper gas!
It really is very simple economics... Not that hard at all...
So demand for oil will increase, which will drive the price per barrel up, which will lead to higher feedstock prices, leading to higher prices at the pump. Oh I see.
Are you arguing that the oil industry is losing money?
You're beginning to sound like the guys looking for infinite energy from magnets, or those that expect cars to run on water.
The world is eating oil as fast as it is produced. There is no spare capacity in oil production. Everyone is pumping at their max rate.
Wow! Again, the sillyness of your argument is revealed...
There are vast oil caches in the Dakotas; the mountain west states; Anwar in Alaska; in the Gulf of Mexico that are all being untapped because of the environmental lobby which also articially derails the supply/demand curve equilibrium point!
We are also the largest 'coal' nation on Earth! Coal can be synthesized into oil at $45 a barrel. We invested $1 billion dollars into it in 1980...
You're talking about shale. No one has yet figured out a way to get positive energy out of oil shales. You have to burn more oil to cook them, then you get back.
ANWAR has 100 days worth of oil. So you save less than a penny for 30 years. Big Whoop.
Coal could once be synthesized at $45 / barrel, but we burn diesel to mine it, and natural gas for the synthesis. Costs go up with feedstocks.

Democrats need to read up on their history... Appeasement has always failed. Just look at the Munich Conference that ended up STARTING WWII. dejuanp: It's because Dick Cheney once implied that anyone who votes for a Democrat is a traitor, and an appeaser of terrorists. Bush has no mind of his own; he's simply reading the neo-con script. I agree that this comment is not so direct or inflammatory on the surface; but just read between the lines.

bob: thanks for the comment. yeah, bush can be this way or this type of president and remain in office for eight years. it's like the quality of reality tv shows they're showing nowadays. it's like a slap in the face to people who actually want to see some good tv. well, imo.

Pretty damn ironic for Bush to make comments about appeasement given his own family's history regarding Nazi Germany. Look up his grandfather's dealings with the Nazis.

What does what his grandfather did have anything to do with what he said? Lots of people did business with the Nazi Germany.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
True that many people did business with the German leader Hitler, including the zionists, highjacker of Palestine and not only bush's granddady. Now you are very close to get it and it takes only 3 questions: 1- what kind of business? 2- who did that business. 3- what that business led to? I'm sure you'll get it as soon as you get the real answers to these 3 question. By the way, did you look for ( Paul Findley )?

Actually, I have come to my own conclusions on this matter. The President has made lots of mistakes, even in HOW the war has been fought in Iraq. However the strategy of invading Iraq has made us safer and prevented further attacks. The proof will be if a Democrat president removes our troops too soon and we are then attacked.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
Let us think objectively, ok? Please remember that Iraq had nothing against us. So why that association between Iraq and us being safer? Have you thought about why more than 800.000 Iraqi had to be killed? were they deserve life as we do? Also, what about our troops who got killed? Please advise and thanks in advance.
abaiomy 3 years ago
First, you need to realize that Iraq invade Kuwait who is an ally of the US, a strategic partner in the region, and an oil rich nation. After we lead the coalition that threw Saddam out of Kuwait, he had everything against us.
Before we invaded Saddam had violated the terms of the cease-fire, was starving his own people, and had to be restrained (no-fly zones) from killing his opposition. People were dying in Iraq long before we invaded. As for our troops, they get paid to defend us.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
Try to think and not to follow the media and think of what is right for us as people, working people of America. Media represents the interests of evil in our country, ok?
1- Saddam was considered a ( Hero) while he fought Iran and we sold him a lot of weapons. 2- Yes, he invaded Kuwait, while we ( USA Government) used the tribal undemocratic government of Kuwait against Iraq while Israel and its lobby in America used us to destroy Iraq on its behalf!!
abaiomy 3 years ago
I am not following the media because they are all against the President. Saddam was never considered a hero, only a useful tool to counter Iran. He invaded Kuwait and threatened our sources of oil from the Middle East. It has nothing to do with Israel.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
Please know that oil of Kuwait belongs to the people of Kuwait, not ours! This paragmatic mentality will never bring peace to anyone.
abaiomy 3 years ago
I never said their oil was ours. We have enough of our own if the liberals would let us drill for it.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
4951WEDDEL, WHEN will you guys ever respect what land we have? We now have corporations blowing up mountain tops for crying out loud! Shouldn't we start focusing on alternative fuel? The only benefit from drilling would be for Exxon. Exxon has no less than 140 front groups claiming global warming is not real. We attack an oil rich country, rattle swords to another oil rich company claim Chavez is evil, another oil rich company then give N.Korea tons of food. U don't see the obvious?
UTBESUX 3 years ago
You are the one who does not want to face the facts. We have been trying to find an alternative fuel for decades. There are none that a economically feasible. That is a fact.
Don't even get me started on "Global Warming". In fact, you need to update your terminology. It is "Global Climate Change" now since we have found the world is not getting warmer.
If you hate oil then fine, but until you invented a substitute that works, we need to drill for oil on our own soil.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
" .. threatened our sources of oil ... Think some.
abaiomy 3 years ago
What terms Saddam violated? You imagin, somebody, whoever he is, enforced us to fly here and not to fly there, can we abide such terms?
3- However, we destroyed Iraq and killed at least 600.000 Iraqi in the first war. 4- The evil of power in America wanted to steel the Oil from Iraq and they told us all possible lies to mislead us to fight Iraq, as you know or at least you should know.
abaiomy 3 years ago
If you start a war, lose it, and surrender, you accept the terms given you. Personally, I would never have left the man in power, but that's the deal the President (Bush 1) made with the UN to get them to go along. We did not destroy Iraq. Iraq destroyed itself by invading Kuwait.
The only lies were the ones Saddam told the inspectors. We could not risk being wrong about his WMDs or his seeking to acquire them. Face it, you would not have supported the war if we would have found tons of them.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
Also, stop misleading other by repeating this lie too. Please review what Joe wilson truthfully said "there is weapons of mass distruction and how those bastards retaliated from him by revealing the name of his wife Valerie. Is it clear some? I hope so.

Joe Wilson is a confirmed liar. The whole thing with his wife was a stunt. She was never really covert. Everyone in Washington knew what she did and who she did it for.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
4951WEDDEL Joe Wilson? Man, don't go there lol. Look, Bush & co. outed a C.I.A op. That is what is called a traitor. Spin it all you want, I respect your opinions & hope you call a spade a spade in this case. If this were a democrat all hell would have broke loose. Bush/Cheney/Rove are traitors.
UTBESUX 3 years ago

4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
" Joe Wilson is a confirmed liar" ???!!!! You left nothing for me but to say : Shame on you to say that about an honest, truthful and respectable American man like Joe Wilson. That makes doubt your choice of supporting evil Vs Good. Please think about the majority of Americans and their daily suffering from food prices. also, stop supporting the elit evil of power, unless you are one of them.

4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
5- Our troops are used as hit men, not to defend us, as Iraq had done nothing against us in the reality, regardless of their feeling was against us or not, as we can not judge people based on what we assume they are against us.
6- Think of this ( McCain visited Israel as soon as he got the nomination of his party) Did you think about why he did that? Simply, the problem is that our politicians are toys between the fingers of Israel and its lobby. I hope it is clear enough.
abaiomy 3 years ago
They are fighting terrorists. The Iraqi people want democracy and freedom. It is the terrorists you should be attacking, not your own government.

Did you hear that son of a bitch who is trying to find a justfication and said ( Israel with its Nuke is under threat)!?

UTBESUX 3 years ago
Actually, Libya folded because we invaded Iraq. They did not want the same thing to happen to them. North Korea was given a pass by Clinton because they promised not to develop nuclear weapons. That left the mess to the President. As for oil and gas prices, it is called the free market. World demand for oil is rising quickly. This is what is driving the price up.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago

UTBESUX 3 years ago
The fact is that we have not been attacked since 911. You cannot dispute that so you attempt to distract. Katrina has nothing to do with terrorism. There was nothing the President could do about it. The Democratic governor and mayor are the ones to blame for any deaths. FEMA moves slow because it is a FEDERAL AGENCY. Congress is the one who piles on the rules and the policies, screams for efficiency, and complains about waste later. The war on terrorism is a real war we are winning. For now???

What diplomatic efforts were extended to terrorist groups.
Our policy is never to speak to terrorist groups.
That's like saying a gun safety class didn't prevent the Columbine Shootings.
Some people are crazy and worse some people can be convinced to act in a crazy way. The big problem with people around the world is they don't meet "real americans" real average people that are good nice people. They only see images of America the war machine. In media you are what you portray.
hassleoffa 3 years ago
hassleoffa, your policy is to deal with the Chinese government regardless of what they are doing to the people of Tibet. Your policy is to go to war under false premises and without congressional agreement. Your policy is to lock people in Guantanamo bay for years without charges or trial.
Please don't lecture us about your policies and America should stick to them because 9/11 is proof that your policy don't work. And if it ain't working, fix it!
medaa25 3 years ago
I'm sorry but that's not what I meant at all. I didn't say not talking to people was a good thing. I simply meant "we don't talk to anyone now." My whole point about talking to real americans is that we should be far more diplomatic and stop posturing as the big bad war machine.
I'm going to say it was late and what my brain was thinking never made it to my fingers.
hassleoffa 3 years ago
Since 911 we have not been attacked, I would say the policy is working just fine.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago

I hope American understand that they general election shouldn't be about who's gonna suck up to Israel the most but about what can their leader do to solve their national crisis.
medaa25 3 years ago
It's not about sucking up - it's about protecting an entire race of people from genocide by anti-semitic fucks like Ahmedinejad, The Nazis, and EuroDick FAGS like you. America is in no national crisis - Israel is.
And go fuck yourself you racist prick. I thought Europeans were supposed to be more open minded and welcoming.
AdamSonOfJohn 3 years ago
America is in no crisis? Go and say that to the average American suffering the credit crunch and the foreclosure of their homes. Israel is in crisis? So what? What does it have to do with the everyday American? They already give millions of their hard earned dollars to Israelis. Only the welfare of America should matter during a national election. I didn't say anything racist you drama queen, Israelis like to play the victims since world war 2 but it doesn't work anymore coz People understand!

What the President said was absolutely true. Truth does not stop at the water's edge. Israel has learned the hard lesson through their own appeasement of terrorists. The only way this was an attack on anyone is if those individuals believe in appeasement of terrorists.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
you inbred retard. do you understand the difference between talking, and appeasement? obviously not. appeasement is giving things away to the enemy, talking to them is not giving anything away. anyone who thinks bush is right on this issue needs to consider the downhill slide this country has taken since bush adopted this "tough guy" policy. we are the most hated country in the world right now because of bush's refusal to use diplomacy. we are less safe now than ever before.
unwashablebrain 3 years ago
Sure, I understand the difference! One gets you and others killed, and the other does not. I do not care if we are hated in the world, though I seriously doubt we are. The President has used diplomacy, just not face to face talks.
If we are not safer, then why have the terrorists not attacked again since 911?
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
495, You SHOULD care if the US is hated throughout the world and yes, it is true. Presently there are but a handful of countries that are supportive of the US and it's actions with even fewer Americans approving of this admin. 80% disapprove of America's present course.
Bush has NEVER used realistic diplomacy, he is at odds with the UN and the modern world. He occasionally sends Condi to make the rounds and her success rate is ZERO. Not one achievement.
The US used to be respected. No more.
shaire99 3 years ago 3
Why should I care if the world hates the US? What have they ever done for us except come begging for money for this or that cause! The President used diplomacy and the UN. What we discovered was the UN was corrupt (Oil for Food), and most countries are too scared to stand up to terrorists. I will take FEAR over respect any day.

Obviously you cannot read. I was speaking about the world fearing us. I don't live in fear because I have a President that understands how to fight terrorists, not appease them.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
The world no longer fears America. Before we invaded Iraq, there was a perception abroad that America could snap its fingers and the world would heel. But after seeing the mess we made in Iraq, our forces stretched to the breaking point, and our inadvertent strengthening of Iran and Al Queda's influence in the Middle East, nobody believes that anymore. Bush played his hand wrong, completely wrong, and we are much less safe for it. But you can keep drinking the cool aid, if you want to.
nothankyoumam 3 years ago
If we are less safe, then why hasn't this strengthen Al Queda attacked us again? What are they waiting for? Terrorism only works if you demonstrate an ability to strike at will! Most Americans have forgotten 911 and it has little or no effect on us now.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
That's the stupidest thing I've heard all year. "Most Americans have forgotten 911 and it has little or no effect on us now." You really are on the cool aid. And the fact that we haven't been attacked on US soil yet has much more to do with police action in dozens of countries around the world to break up Al Queda networks than anything Bush has done. There were no Al Queda in Iraq before we invaded. They're there now and they have gained sympathy and support throughout the Middle East.
nothankyoumam 3 years ago
To continue, if you think we're safe, just wait until Iran, emboldened by Bush's folly in Iraq, gets the bomb. Just wait until Pakistan, which already has it, falls into the hands of extremists, in part because Bushie boy stupidly put all of his eggs in Musharriaf's tottering basket.
nothankyoumam 3 years ago
If Iran gets the bomb, then we blow it up. If Pakistan goes extremist then we blow them up as well. No one can withstand our military when we take the gloves off.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
Oh we'll just blow them up. Gee wouldn't that be nice and easy? Too bad things in the real world don't work out quite that way. Too bad life's not a cut and dried John Wayne movie. We've seen the results of using bluster and machismo in Bush diplomacy. Total disaster.
nothankyoumam 3 years ago
You have still not yet given me your solution to the problem. How do you compromise with someone who has no morality? Do you think we should let terrorists dictate our foreign policy? Once you given in, the terrorism never stops.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
I'm not talking about compromising with terrorists! I'm talking about beating them by using good common sense and smart diplomacy and tactics informed by a good reading of history and a good understanding the world's different cultures and political systems. You say bomb, bomb, like a genocidal maniac. The trouble with bombs is that innocents get killed too. You say bomb, I say there's more than one way to skin a cat. But it takes brains, understanding and cunning, something Bush & Co never had.
nothankyoumam 3 years ago
There may be more than one way to skin a cat, but in the end, the cat dies. You lack a fundamental understanding of terrorism, why and how it is used. I am not saying bomb in every instance, but in many cases, it is the only alternative. Yes, innocents get killed sometimes. A sad reality of this present world.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
I am not anti war at all & I think many will agree that it has to happen sometimes. But why the Iraq war? The obvious reason is oil, I didn't buy that at first but after researching & watching all these crazy events happen it is obvious. Look Saddam was about to do away with the dollar some say we invaded for that reason. Call me nuts but that would be a good reason for me because it would have crippled us. However, that wasn't the case and now many countries are building arms because of us.
UTBESUX 3 years ago
There were many reasons for the invasion of Iraq. First and foremost was his refusal to comply with the inspections and monitoring of his WMD programs. He was not selling enough oil to worry about whether he got paid in dollars or Euros.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
Terrorism is a tactic, not a movement per se. I understand it perfectly well. But you seem to lack a fundamental understanding of how the rest of the world (outside the US) functions. Perhaps you should get out and travel more? Nothing broadens the mind more, as they say. Of course, the cat dies. That's the point. But the end does not justify the means. You don't need to, nor should you, set the whole barnyard on fire.
nothankyoumam 3 years ago
I have traveled outside of the United States. It has served to given me a greater appreciation for my country. The fact is you don't understand terrorism. It is a tactic used by those who lack the political or military power to achieve their objectives, and possess no moral or civil values. There is no negotiating with such people. They blow up women and children INTENTIONALLY. They TORTURE for torture sake. They cannot be reasoned with or frightened by punishment. All you can do is kill them.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
No this is the stupidest thing I have heard all year. "There were no Al Queda in Iraq before we invaded. They're there now and they have gained sympathy and support throughout the Middle East." You have missed the whole point. This is one of the reasons we invaded, to draw Al Queda to Iraq. Better to have our military engage them there then have them attacking us here.
You are just wrong about sympathy. They are blowing up fellow Muslims now and losing support both inside and outside Iraq.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
4951WEDDEL said "This is one of the reasons we invaded, to draw Al Queda to Iraq" How many reasons is that now 1,000? So we draw people into an oil rich country that was NOT a threat so our troops can get killed? Then complain about Iran because they are supplying weapons & they happen to be an oil rich country? Let's not forget another so-called enemy in another OIL rich country Chavez! Do u NOT see a pattern? All but the Saudis are enemies yet the terrorists came from there. How f'ed up is that
UTBESUX 3 years ago
Better our troops fighting terrorists in a Muslim country than having our own people attacked and killed here. Saddam was violating the terms of the cease-fire agreement from Gulf War 1 so we removed him. There can be more than one reason for doing something. The Saudis did not invade Kuwait,Iraq did.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
Don't feed me the "draw them into Iraq" BS. It's absolutely laughable because it's simply not true. Bush and Co were the fools. They played right into Bin Laden's hands by invading Iraq, which created enormous animosity in the Middle East against the US. Prior to the invasion, the US was seen as a supporter of Israel to be sure, but also as an even-handed broker who was respected. That all changed with the invasion and Bush's stupid cowboy diplomacy. He doesn't even have clout with Saudis now!
nothankyoumam 3 years ago
I don't know what you mean by BS because it is a fact that the terrorists are coming to Iraq in droves. The last thing Bin Laden wanted was for us to invade Iraq. It demonstrated to him and the rest of the Middle East that we are not going to be a passive target for terrorists. We have forced terrorists to do what they are not trained for, fighting soldiers.
As for clout with the Saudis, there is only so much a President can do.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
It's a fact that our invasion of Iraq has bred and continues to breed anti-American sentiment and extremism around the world. Islamists just won 24 seats out of 50 in the Kuwaiti Parliament. In places where moderate, democratic voices once looked to the US to help them advance, they are now running from us because we have become a liability to them. The extremist are reaping the rewards. Bush's foreign policy has been a complete and total disaster.
nothankyoumam 3 years ago
I will grant you that in the short term our invasion give the terrorists some propaganda for recruiting. Let them recruit, as long as we are killing them in Iraq, who cares. In the long term, a free and democratic Iraq will cut off their recruiting eventually. This is why they are opposing us there.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
4951WEDDEL, let's not forget that we assassinated a democratically elected leader in Iran when he decided to nationalize oil. Yes terror recruiting is way up, in fact the largest ever. THE SAVAGES are using women & children. Had Bush & the Dems done things right we'd be much further ahead on this so-called war on terror. As it was a small group of radicals. We could have worked covertly with many countries and eradicated them. But I guess Halliburton & Exxon couldn't wait. They made BILLIONS!
UTBESUX 3 years ago
Realistically, there was no way to stop the terrorists by playing only defense. We could not risk another attack like 911. The invasion has done what it was designed to do. Force the terrorists to fight our military on foreign soil.
4951WEDDEL 3 years ago
A free and democratic Iraq? In the long term? Sure, maybe in a couple hundred years. Maybe. For many in the Maliki government, which BTW we are supporting in Iraq, democracy is like toilet paper. You use it once, then you throw it away. As for the terrorists, the idea should not be to 'bring it on," until we have no more bullets left to shoot. We should be working to curb extremism, not helping Bin Laden breed more terrorists.
nothankyoumam 3 years ago
Well, if it takes a couple of hundred years, then it does. The government there is democratically elected by the people. People who voted in spite of the terrorist threats. People who are volunteering to serve as soldiers and police.
Tell me, how do we "curb extremism"?

Intelligent response. Let me concede a little here. The Republicans cottling of the oil companies has manufactured an outragoeus dependence on imported oil (often from hostile countries). We should have generated a cost effective alternative fuel source by now (not one that is based on 'food' that shortens suppllies and engineers famine). That's on them for buffering the oil companies the last 40 years! And we NEED to create that alternative source...
But, that doesn't change the here & now!
johnnyu2123 3 years ago
Weaseldog2001, let me also say this. If we can 'talk' Iran, Syria and North Korea out of creating a nuclear weapons capability to avert WWIII, then so be it! That would be a far more desirable approach than war (which may yet be necessary... Unfortunately... I hope not... Screw the neo-cons!). And I pray that we can ween ourselves off of oil after this current debacle. (It's ridiculous to found the economy on oil!)...
But I have to go. This has been fun. Good responses. Best of luck to ya'!!!
johnnyu2123 3 years ago
There are no good alternatives.
One thing I think that you're thinking about is that the rate of production per year is what is important to economic and industrial growth.
To keep economic growth going to infinity, rates of extraction have to increase to infinity.
It doesn't matter how big an energy source is, if production can't be increased at a rapid rate forever.
Giant discoveries with slow production rates, cannot solve our growth problem.
Weaseldog2001 3 years ago
That is a very valid point, which is my point about refinery capacity and effective production...
Either and any, though there isn't a 'good alternative', yet, I believe we are capable of creating just such a source...
'Necessity is the mother of invention'.
That is based more on faith than logic, but I 'believe' that it is more than possible through American 'ingenuity' (if the 'oil lobbies' artificial interventions are kept at bay!)...
Thanks for the debate. Best-o-wishes!

johnnyu2123 3 years ago
This is because it isn't appeasement, it is called cutting deals.
The word 'Appeasement' in my view, puts the argument in simplistic black and white terms. Sure it makes great sound bites, but it leads to really stupid and tortured logic.
Diplomacy works most of the time, and sometimes it doesn't. If it always failed, we'd have no friends or family. We would just beat on people that don't submit.
Bush hates diplomacy, so it doesn't work for him. He's just a bully with a big stick.
Weaseldog2001 3 years ago
Let's take a brief look at the past 'successes' of 'appeasement':
1. Neville Chamberlain w/ Adolf Hitler (Uh... Yeah... Self-explanatory).
2. The UN with North Korea in the late 1940's (didn't really stop them from crossing the 53rd paralell).
3. The UN with the Viet Kong, Khmer Rouge and Burmese Junta (2 1/2 million people dead in comprising half of the populations of the areas invaded).
4. SALT I and II Treaties (That worked. How about that Afghanistan invasion by the Soviets).
johnnyu2123 3 years ago
What you're saying is that Hitler was a goodly and worshipful angel that would've put Mother Teresa to shame if Neville Chamberlain hadn't turned him to the dark side?
I don't buy the theory of Neville Chamberlain as a Sith Lord. that he started WWII. That just sounds stupid.
Do you believe then that Condileeza Rice's and Robert Gates efforts at Diplomatic Relations With Iran, will start WWIII? Do you believe that Bush's attempts to appease the evildoers will blowback on us?
Weaseldog2001 3 years ago
Aww.
When Exxon pumps oil in Nigeria, ships in Exxon owned tankers to the US. Refines it in an Exxon owned refinery, then sells it at an Exxon Gasoline station, are they still getting 10%?
Weaseldog2001 3 years ago
But your friends on the left block that!

My friends on the left?
My voter registration still says Republican, though I no longer feel I have anything in common with either party.
The oil industry doesn't think they need new refineries. With new technologies, they keep upgrading and expanding the existing ones.
Gasoline and oil go for what the market will bear. So long as a product keep selling out, a seller will raise the price.
When their inventories back up, they'll lower the price.
Don't you believe in capitalism?

The oil refineries are running at 'overload' capacities! (At or near 250% to 300% of ideal economic equilibrium points). It is the environmental movement that has blocked the manufacturing of new refineries that would give way to increase production to meet a higher supply demand that would in turn bring higher profits to them and lower gas for us.
If they were the majority supplier instead of the majority refiner, your assertions would be valid!
The supply/demand curve equilibrium point

Get your 'donkey and cart' ready!!!

The price of oil isn't rising, simply because we can't refine it an burn it fast enough.
It is rising because world demand exceeds supply. So long as the world wants expensive oil, the price will keep rising.
What makes you think that More Refineries leading to More Demand = lower cost?
More refineries = More Oil Consumption.
Tight Supply + Rising Demand = Shortages + Higher Prices.
Weaseldog2001 3 years ago
is far from being met!

But they're blocking that, too!
johnnyu2123 3 years ago
Now you're not talking about oil anymore.
I heard it was gonna be worth it at $14 barrel.

With NAFTA, couldn't they be building those refineries in Mexico?
Sure they could. They just don't want to waste the money when they know that in a few years, world oil production will be in decline.
Rejoice Dude! This is capitalism in action. Are you going to tell people how to run their business?
