Snakes make great pets but not all types make great pets. I work with snakes every day with my job as a natural resource specialist. Research before you buy and not on impulse. I see everyday first hand what invasive species do to areas. This can all be prevented by being a responsible pet owner realizing that keeping animal is a lifetime commitment

Snakes do not belong as pets just as a alligator or shark should not be a pet. On my fire department we were called to the scene where a guy was having his arm squeezed by a python in which we had to cut the snake off the owners arm.
The bottom line is these things belong in their natural habitat, a zoo or snake soup--but not in a house as a pet.

I hate snakes, I live in coastal North Carolina and we have plenty of snakes and they are mean and need to be gone, kill them before they kill you or your pets. Those pythons are not here yet but they are migrating in our direction, kill kill kill them before they get here.

The people that release snakes should not own, them and probably only bought them because they thought they looked cool. I'm 100% behind you! I spend a lot of time in FL bay, the western 'Glades, & 10,000 Islands (got kinfolk there). We've been seeing & killing pythons in the area for almost 30 yrs. I've told python lovers I'd offer my services as a guide for free if they would remove the damn things. Responses varied from denial to death threats. Then they're saying the cold winter killed them off.

Snakes do not belong as pets just as a alligator or shark should not be a pet. On my fire department we were called to the scene where a guy was having his arm squeezed by a python in which we had to cut the snake off the owners arm.
The bottom line is these things belong in their natural habitat, a zoo or snake soup--but not in a house as a pet.

Ergo, that isn't why we have a invasive species problem here. Burm & rock pythons (the most invasive) are apex predators in their native lands. When they were dumped in S. Florida They had no native predators or diseases to limit their population explosion. That's why we have the problem.

I'm 100% behind you! I spend a lot of time in FL bay, the western 'Glades, & 10,000 Islands (got kinfolk there). We've been seeing & killing pythons in the area for almost 30 yrs. I've told python lovers I'd offer my services as a guide for free if they would remove the damn things. Responses varied from denial to death threats. Then they're saying the cold winter killed them off.

They're non- native, so I don't see why the season even closed on them at the end of small game season. Personally, I feel that just like wild pigs, they should be allowed to be hunted year round.

@WildlifeSeriaLKiller Good news! If you see any python on the loose it's now FL law that it is your obligation to kill it by whatever means possible (ask any FWC wildlife officer). A sharp machete blow to just behind the head works best. If you know how, skin it & sell the skin. Good money in python skins.

Quite a bit of "white trash" out there. I met some this year while visiting the beautiful state of Florida , wearing camo , growing mountain man beards, talking about guns and pick-up trucks . I asked 9 people over the course of 2 weeks what the state capital of Florida was. 2 got it and 7 gave me , Orlando , Jacksonville , Tampa , these dumb ones did not say "I dunno". Dummies.
