Scotland cannot do anything about its relationship or level of integration with the EU until we are free from London control - ie independent of the United Kingdom. Those matters are decided for us by the Pro-EU Whitehall in London. Scotland has NO CONTROL over these matters as part of the UK.
In order for us to have such powers, we need to be free of the UK.

They are just a political party. Independence is a constitutional status. Scotland would be a multiparty democracy upon independence. The SNP may or may not be in power in an independent Scotland.

I would only be in favour of independence if there was evidence that the SNP were more competent than any potential UK government and they could guarantee that Scotland would leave the EU (and only if it was unlikely that the UK could).
Why do you assume the SNP will be the only party with a chance to govern an independent Scotland? Independence is a constitutional status that will be underpinned by a multiparty democracy - like anywhere else. Scotland cannot do anything about its relationship or level of integration with the EU until we are free from London control - ie independent of the United Kingdom. Those matters are decided for us by the Pro-EU Whitehall in London. Scotland has NO CONTROL over these matters as part of the UK.
In order for us to have such powers, we need to be free of the UK.

They are just a political party. Independence is a constitutional status. Scotland would be a multiparty democracy upon independence. The SNP may or may not be in power in an independent Scotland.

The alternative is that Scotland remains powerless with NO say over how the EU affects it. Which is the status quo. I can't quite understand how you'd prefer that to a sovereign Scotland making its own decision whether to integrate with the EU or not.
As part of the UK Union Scotland can do NOTHING with regard to the EU.
There are several small Scottish independence parties which advocate withdrawal from both the UK and EU - the Scottish Enterprise Party being one.

Sorry, but where exactly did I promote the EU? I said that the only way Scotland can decide for itself whether to engage with the EU or not is to be an independent country making such a decision. Just like it is for Scots and Scots alone to decide whether to separate from the UK it is also for Scots and Scots alone to decide whether to remain in the EU or not.

The UK government is elected and Scotland's representation in Parliament pretty much fits with its population. The EU commission and council aren't elected by anyone
I would only be in favour of independence if there was evidence that the SNP were more competent than any potential UK government and they could guarantee that Scotland would leave the EU (and only if it was unlikely that the UK could).

Why do you assume the SNP will be the only party with a chance to govern an independent Scotland? Independence is a constitutional status that will be underpinned by a multiparty democracy - like anywhere else. It is not up to anyone to "prove" how well they govern (and certainly not in comparison to the English dominated UK Parliament) in that situation. They don't need to prove anything. Any party that doesn't govern well, gets kicked out by the electorate - end of.

Aberdeen were, arguably, the first major town in Scotland to embrace independence. Others are now following suit: Dundee, Inverness, etc. The central belt really need to get a grip of themselves and realise that Scottish Independence is the way forward.

By the way, i'll be one of them. The day this Island divides into 2 (doubt it'll happen to many people will realise the stupidity of it) is the day I sort out two passports. (after all I have a Scottish name, scottish ancestors that fought at Flodden etc, like millions of 'English') No-nones going to make ME feel like a foreigner on my own Island homeland. The day 'independence' comes I reckon up to 20 million English plan on getting Scottish passports to go with their English passports to reflect their 'British' not just English Ancestry. I predict hundreds of thousands will actually move there to move away from the crowded inner city south. As 'New Scots' they'll expect a warm welcome and will be able to sue everyone for 'racial discrimination' if you insult them. Scotland will have never been so English in all its existence....enjoy.

Scotland would be in budget surplus to the tune of more than £800 million with a "geographical share" of North Sea revenues, official figures today showed. This would see the country's budget surplus stand at £837 million (0.7% of GDP) in 2006/07 - compared with a UK DEFICIT of £4.3 billion. That's with an oil figure at $65 not the $120 we see recently. Ireland, Scottland and Wales should form a unique partnership of independent Celtic nations thus giving them greater voice and bargaining power in matters of trade, etc. Independent states would only enhance these nations and allow them to realize their own destinies at home which just makes sense for everyone.
