  • More power to you Master Hidy Ochiai!

  • I used to attend his classes in upstate New York when I was little... I miss it so much, training with him.............

  • I began with the WB Dojo just over three years ago under Mr. Rodgers, Mr. Schwartz is now current instructor. I believe in everything Washin-Ryu stands for and I couldn't have chosen a better school or style to enroll myself and two daughters in. Having trained and tested under Master Ochiai has been and will continue to be an enlightening experience.

  • from 2:25 very wise words! I am, in my own eyes, a pacifist. But I also believe in what he's saying here. Avoid violence, but when there is no escape or better ways, one has the right to defend both yourself and your loved ones! :)

  • Im a former member of the Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania Branch School. I started under Mr. Bruce White, and then onto Mr. Richard Rodgers, and now Mr. Chris Schwartz instructs. I do miss Washin Ryu immensely and it has taught me a great deal of self defence, and in life. The 12 years spent, with Sensei Ochiai and Washin-Ryu were the best years, and ones I will never forget.

  • lol, he mopped the floor with me one time b/c I was getting too cocky when sparring other people. Wish I could have stuck with it...

  • Could anyone tell me if there is a dojo affiliated with Sensei Ochiai in the New York City area?

  • @soupoftheday1984 .. in the 80's I trained in lower Manhattan under Lynn Myers then Kevin Tate. Last I know they were on Chambers St.

  • I was a child when I trained with Master Ochiai. He taught Washin-Ryu and Judo.

I remember being amazed at what he could do.

  • Thank you for posting this clip of my teacher. I would be interested in seeing any other video clips you might have.

  • Master Ochiai is alive and well. He continues teaching every day at his national headquarters and dojo in Vestal, NY.

  • that's good to hear, wow, the very first book i ever bought was Sensei Ochiai's 'the essence of self defense'...so long ago

  • Where is Mr. Hidy Ochiai now? I hope he's still teaching and doing well. It seems as though his teaching would be of supreme benefit to the martial arts community today.

  • Still alive and still teaching actively in Vestal, NY. I train under him in a branch dojo in Connecticut.

  • He is working in Vestal NY just south of Binghampton, he's one of the most amazing men I've ever met.

  • thanks for posting.

  • He sounds like a smart and wise man.

  • thanks for posting!

  • Wow the Master and Founder of Washin-Ryu teaching and performing!
