If I didn't want to make a dehydrated pumpkin pie, could I just dehydrate the pumpkin peeled & uncooked? I could just cook it when I re hydrate it, couldn't I?
I love your dehydrating videos. This one had me stumped for a few minutes though. What you are calling yellow neck squash is known around these parts as a butternut squash which is a fall squash. Yellow neck squash is entirely different type of squash and is a summer squash.
Tammy, could you pls give us a ratio of pumpkin powder:water for rehydration purposes? I'm attempting to make other baked goods such as muffins, pancakes, etc. and knowing the rehydration ratio would be helpful. Thank you. Love your website & videos.
Would you consider taking this down even more, in terms of last minute items added? Could you/would you pls adjust the recipe for us so that it stores as "Dehydrated Pumpkin Pie Mix" and all we have to add is water? This would be an excellent adaptation for folks who backpack if it is possible. Thanks.
@MajorQuilter Would a backpacker want to haul pie crusts in their gear (making a pie crust on trail is just... NO) and also pie tins for camp cooking?
Just add spices to the dried pumpkin/squash mix + powdered milk, sugar & dehydrated whole egg powder. Add the 2C water + the amount to reconstitute the milk & egg powders per their instructions. Maybe a biscuit "crust" would do well in a typical camp pan over a fire or rocket stove?
@Schmauey I hiked 550 contiguous miles on the Appalachian Trail last year, so I doubt I need advice from you about using one's brain about backcountry cooking. I'm sure Tammy agrees, the only dumb question is the unasked question.

What an easy way to skin a pumpin and squash, prep for dehydration is ike the way you showed how to dehydrate sweet potatoes. I am going to try this very soon! Wonderful how to video!
Great video! I have just put several pints of pumpkin in the freezer that I'm going to get out of the freezer and dehydrate. I steam my pumpkins and sweet potatoes so that they do not sit in water at all. They really don't lose nutrients that way. I use a steam juicer. It's one of my favorite kitchen toys.
2 cups boiling water and let set for 20 min and cooled. Then add 1 can of EVAPORATED MILK, 3 eggs, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 cloves, 1/4 nutmeg, 1tsp cinnamon and hydrated cooled pumpkin in blender for 1-2 min. pour in shell and bake at 350 for 40-50 min. Sorry for the mistake. Tammy
The pie recipe is my own and I went through many trails and errors. I found by grinding the dried pumpkin made it easier to store and hydrate into a prefect pumpkin paste for pie and squash. I hope you try this pie recipe and I promise a prefect pumpkin pie that your family will love. Tammy
20 min with a 5 pound weight on top. I can fit 3-4 pumpkins or squash in my pressure cooker. By leaving the skins, seeds and stems you help lock in more nutrients and they are much easier to cut, peel and scoop out. My family finished 4 pumpkin pies this Thanksgiving. Tammy
Thanks so much for that! Awesome! This was our first year growing our own pumpkins & my first year making pumpkin pies from fresh pumpkin. So I really look forward to dehydrating the pumpkin from our garden next year.
December 22, I will be doing a drawing for another 9 tray Excalibur dehydrator. If you want your name in the drawing you will need to go to the dehydrate2store web site, click on the contact section and then on the give away. Happy Holiday and good luck to all. Tammy
i got to dehydrate some butternut squash which I wanted to use for pies. Im glad I found out I did it right. And now I know how to use it too! Thanks Tammy - you're spectacular!
Yes, it is evaporated milk. I realized after the video I kept saying condensed. One thing is for sure the pumpkin pie is absolutely delicious and tastes like fresh pumpkin pie. Your dehydrated and ground pumpkin will last for many years in storage as long as it's packaged properly. Enjoy, Tammy
I have to tell you: While I was watching this, my almost 7 year old, Laina, walked in and exclaimed, "Oh, is this Tammy from the Dehydrate channel? Oh, I love her!" Her sister then walked in and Laina turned to her and said, 'This is Mom's favorite channel - mine too!"
Your very welcome Michigansnowpony. The pumpkin pie recipe is an original of mine, I hope you like it! I will also have a FANTASTIC cranberry sauce and cranberry bread video up hopefully by the end of the day that my family LOVES. Enjoy!
YES!! I have squashes all over the garage and fridge from the garden, wondering how to preserve them. (And I didn't know you could use butternut squashes in place of pumpkin in pies!) Thank you, thank you, thank you for this timely video Tammy!
Can you dehydrate a can of pumpkin pie mix instead of cooking your own pumpkins?

Wonderful video as always. I look forward to more. I was wondering if you save the seeds and cut it on half, you can still use the pressure cooker?
