look to the right.... "A1288" That means 2nd gen. You have 2 of the same devices.

another way to tell is on the back if the model n. says A1288 it is a 2g if it says A1318 its is a 3g

No it isnt. First of all, Apple says the 8GB is a 3G. Im jus saying what ive been told. But according to Wiki, it is a 2nd gen because it has the same specs. Again, im just going by what apple told me.

And another this is your wrong, They are the same size. One is the 2nd gen 2008 model, the other is a 3rd gen 2009 model. Your eye's are just deceiving you. And the 2nd gen (16GB) is a MB model. Not an MC. I got that iPod maybe a month after launch which would be October of 2009.

ok you corrected me partially. The appearance on the 8gb has changed on the back but they did not upgrade the internals thats the reason why it doesn't have voice command and doesn't come with the special headphones. Plus if it is tethered its because of the firmware. it has nothing to do with the ipod itself.

the 2nd generation had 36 hours of audio and 6 hours of video while the 3rd gen has 30 hours of audio and 6 hours of video as well. The 2nd gen is clocked at 533 to 620 MHz and the 3rd is at 600 to 833 Mhz. so essentially the 3rd gen is faster. 2nd gen has 128 MB of ram while the 3rd has 256 MB of ram and the 3rd gen has a better graphics card

it also does have to do with the firmware. but a 2nd generation 3.1.2 isnt tethered so why would a 3rd gen 3.1.2 be tethered?? There is a difference :P
