  • and all of those ideas, needs money. that's why is a bit expensive to get any apple products

  • This guy just doesn't know anything of what a thread is... "Giving more thread to an application" has no sense and even if you can make an application that subdivides the workload in a variable number of thread, once thread number is much greater than cpu number (for example 10 threads on 4 CPU) you don't have no speed increase and you now have to wait for thread context-change and waste a lot of memory for idle thread descriptors...

  • @JassonArauz $29 is the upgrade price $129 is full price.

  • Even though snow leopard supports exchange the client apps are absolute shit and don't support half the features that Microsoft provide.

  • @JassonArauz Snow Leopard isn't cheap! You can't only see the price Apple charges for the OS itself, you must also regard the over-the-top prices you have to pay for the slow hardware to run the OS on. If you compare the price of a similar PC computer to the price of a mac, you'll see that the mac costs way more. Apple uses a part of this high price for the development of OSX which wouldn't be able to survive economically on its own. E.g.Windows must pay its development solely through its price.

  • I used to love Windows more than anything, talking shit about all other OS's, then I got my own mac, I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it, but I ended up with a Linux computer in the end, why? Because it fit my needs, it's quick, costumizable, use the same keyboard sets as PC, but I am not saying neighter of these are the one you should get, you might end up with Solaris for all I know.

Choose with your mind, not with the seller.

  • @leder678 Ha ha, nice. In my opinion, I much prefer Linux over either Windows or Mac. But, a number of my games won't run on Linux, so I am on a Windows for the time being.

  • Well apple to this day still bashes Microsoft. and Microsoft bashes apple. but the truth is. Microsoft still writes software for the Mac. not much. but some yes. and if it wasn't for apple in the beginning Microsoft would never have existed as the company it is now. neither company would be what they are without the other. so wake up and just be glad you live in an age of technological history. ( i am a LInux user and a Mac user ) i only windows when i need a good laugh. :-)

  • I'm fed up with all this PC vs Mac (vs Linux) shit!

All of the OS's are now at such high level, that you are the one to deside which you like the better, not others.

  • @leder678 Well said. Especially since most disagreements are manifestations of aesthetic UI preferences. :P

  • @leder678 thats the problem with mac users....they cant make their own decisions

  • All the top of manufactures of SHIT are in @ 2:07

  • Microsoft Office!? BULLSHIFT, version freaking ONE of iWork officially KILLED MS Office. Not to mention that Office costs $200, while I can get OSX, iLife, and iWork (the first two come FREE with every Mac) for $70 flat.

That's right, iWork: MS Office's superior.

    OSX SL: Windows 7's superior.

iLife: Something that cannot be compared to anything PC, because there is nothing even AT ALL like this.

  • omg. not an accent!!! NOOO

  • Snow Leopard is nothing more than an SP1 update for Leopard, yet they have the nerve to charge $29! lol.. SL is nothing but eyecandy icon OS... if you dare to fuck with the insides than you will get fucked (crashed or panics). Windows always has been fun to fuck with the inside of the OS to pimp and optimized the shit out of it! Power and technological wise comes out of doing this. Apple PC's are for the lazy, no common technology, boring users that mostly want a apple pc to surf the internet!

  • And yes, i wrote all these on my PC Snow Leopard full retail version... if you don't use TimeMachine and something goes wrong, your fucked!

  • Now its time to install Windows 7 "the most powerful OS on the Planet!" in 64bit baby and pimp the shit out of it! Free software here I come! So, Snow Leopard/Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits in ONE PC = Priceless!

  • I was already really excited about soon getting a mac but after watching these presentation I am a billion times more excited! There are so many usful features I didn't even know existed!

  • @TheRetroFanatic You probably didn't know because you're the type that discovers things through marketing or great exposure from somewhere such as Apple. They are Godlike when it comes to marketing. Hell they probably could even sell a brick to very intelligent people. Alot of OSXs features have existed with other OS in the past. Just Apple is very good at bringing it to the people.

  • I'm writing this from Chrome OS, not perfect yet, but way faster than snow leopard...

  • It's really sad that Apple passes this stuff off as something new and revolutionary when about 85% of everything they just shown was being done in Linux/GNU & GNOME/KDE desktop environments for some time now.

  • Regardless of anything else, I laughed when that "1" danced away from the price. A slash would have sufficed, but the animation was charmingly grandiose.

  • I am sold!!!

    Thank you soo much!!!

  • mac mail is bad i hate it so is ichat barely anyone uses it though everything else is ok

  • "Windows is full of viruses"

learn to not click on everything "porn4free.exe" files -.-'

  • @smosh007 Hey check Out my internet explorer.exe new made by me xDDD

    this is with virus xDDD

  • @smosh007 Not to be a downer to your trolling but Windows can get a virus from pop ups now. Some of them even root themselves through adblock and can display. The only way to protect yourself is to throw up several security apps.

  • woah... this is boring.... @kiroo54 I feel sorry for you cuz you have a mac.... awe...

  • I bet half of them shit themselves with that amazingly low price.

  • One thing, they should have set up the screen the other way, so his back isn't towards the audience when he is using the computer, doesn't look good, and shows lack of presentation skills.

  • I actually had to do a little more than email and password setting up my mail, I had to manually put in the servers, etc.

  • and wtf why you use so many microsoft software ?

and why bootcamp isn't enough the so called snow leopard?still mac os can reach windows that's all nothing more to say

  • lol i get 1.5 Teraflops with Sapphire 4870

    and i paid 140eu

  • what is the name of the guy that is presinting this

  • MAC.... is a simple way to say (AWESOME). I love Apple and All their Products!!

  • I'm soooo in love with Apple Computers x3 I have been doing video editing for 2 years now and all I know is problems with codecs, format etc.,with the instability of windows (whatever version),and when I used a mac from a friend for the first time,I thought "I wanna have a mac" XD and now I'm saving money for a 27 inch I mac =D

btw: macs are PRICY but not OVERpriced, you get what you pay for (AMAZING OS,fantastic built quality,USEFUL and really good software (I life etc.) and gorgeous DESIGN!

  • Hehe i love his accent

  • I Switched To Snow Leopard And It Is So Freaking Awesome!!!!!!!

  • now here is my story. i am a full life Pc user. since i started using a computer(that it was a Pc) all i have know ins pain, virus, and a lots and lots of frustration. many times my school work was late because my computer had a virus or it didint turn on :( I always say that apple and all their computers were shit and that microsoft was way better. thats until i used a mac. When i used it, my life change. Now i am a mac user and i dont regret. apple is Way better than microsoft and thats true.

  • I can't wait to be a Mac user; almost every day I've been reading about Snow Leopard and going to the apple website; and yes, I hear the same thing over and over from all my friends who have a Mac: You will never go back to Windows, EVER!

  • me too but my mom won't buy me a mac >:-(

  • @soberdrunk78 i know im getting my mac mini in 6-7 months (or when 2012 model comes out)

  • i would like to see apple play blue ray video they cant lol there is not blue ray software for it or drive.

  • M A C

  • iCal is just amazing i must say.

Great, use it everyday, as i sync it with my Nokia calendar.

  • IMO Mac is better when it comes to easy use of a Computer, but more programmers prefer Windows because it costs less.

  • I would say application compatibility rather than costs, at least by my programming experience. =)

  • @tsipymusic that is not true

  • Dude...... was he was calling threads, freds?.......muahahahaha

  • they just figured out thread management/ Jesus Christ they're thick.

  • I am a Microsoft guy have been for around 22 years. I have never been interested in Apple. Apple has been a niche market and really for those who are non technologists. After 22 years I am finally convinced that Apple is light years ahead of Microsoft in terms of ease of use, innovation and making a PC an exciting, stress free powerful tool. Microsoft made PCs affordable to the masses so without them we would not be where we are today but going forward it will Apple at the steering wheel!

  • right on, thats what i call giving credit where its due. without windows and pc mac wouldnt be where it is or what it is today.

  • @siliconweb sorry, I meant to give you a thumbs up and accidently gave you a thumbs down ;-(

  • no worries :-) I am very impressed with what Apple has done in the last several years but Snow Leopard and the enhancements are truly head and shoulders above Windows.

  • That's a very good point, and I'm not an apple user.

  • @siliconweb True :)

  • @siliconweb Affordable?Microsoft is 3x more Expensive!!! Look at office 2007 professional $499.95 | $329.95.When you can get a OpenOffice For Free! Microsoft Is a Rip off.$219.99 For Windows 7 Ultimate,$169 for Snow Leopard box set

  • @TheSniperofDeath windows 7 ultimate oem is 189 and not to mention each upgrade of osx except for snow leopard was 129, plus every few versions of osx apple would stop supporting your hardware, so if you wanted the latest version youd have to buy a new mac, thats a rip off

  • @TheSniperofDeath If you focus on total cost of ownership PC systems are far more affordable and why it has majority market share. Nevertheless Microsoft software is a rip off given how buggy it is and I personally wouldn't buy MS Office for those two reasons. You have to admit though that Apple PCs cost way more BUT the value is there. Apple is a "status" symbol also which is why it can command a higher price for its PCs and people are happy to pay the higher price. Keep Apple priced higher!

  • @siliconweb Dude you must be kidding. No OS can be compared to Windows 7 in terms of 'ease of use'. What's so 'innovative' in Mac OS? The application bar in the top of the screen? LOL. That was usable ten years ago, not now, with 30" LCDs. Apple finally has at least average hardware (because it switched to PC hardware=)) but the OSX has the worst UI ever; even opensource Linux beats it without a doubt ..

  • @Mehedict How old are you? :) do some google search and you'll see that M$ and APPL it's copying each other... one difference is apple it's doing in the right way... regarding UI... Man... history... all the beauty that you have on your ubuntulinuxwhateverkernel now.. it's come from Apple and even OS2Warp... Please... do yourself a favor... go study OS... please... it's like to say that Linux it's better than UNIX... or the Unix it's old... i am so sick of "teen hackers" uhh i am using Gentoo :D

  • @siliconweb to be the future of opperating systems would require it to work on more than one name brand of computer.

  • @siliconweb I totally agree with you; I've been a diehard PC user for over a decade now but last weekend I finally put my ignorance aside and bought a 13" MacBook Pro.

Let's just say that I am VERY glad I did :p

  • In my opinion even Mac OS X Tiger is way like light years better than Vista or Windows 7 the only Microsoft OS that was an alright OS was XP but other than that Leopard and Snow Leopard are just awesome and fuck anybody who hates on APPLE

  • they dont sound like big advances. i think snow leopard is just there to compete with windows 7. And snow leopard won't do very well!

  • Windows 7>Snow Leopard

I feel bad for people who spend thousands more for an idiot-proof operating system with inferior hardware.

  • you fail HowsltBroin ... Mac is way better than windows 7.

Microsofts Windows is full of viruses, errors and crashes.

  • i love how all pc users ever talk about is the money. if you're not willing to spend at least 800 dollars than why are you even buying a computer?!

  • it's not about money; it's about bang for your buck. for $1000 i could build a computer that would destroy any imac or mac pro.

  • Yeah but you'd still have a crap OS.

  • Look around man, there's a whole lot more stuff going on other than Win.

    There's linux, macos, win, chromium...

Try them all, then decide your position and opinion.

  • no you couldent, try it.

  • yea for sure, but some people are not talking about the actual computer, many of the people prefer the mac OS over the windows OS. But for $1000 i dont think you could build a comp to destory an imac quadcore i7 or a mac pro 8core.

  • I'm sure windows users "buy" Windows XP, VIsta or 7 haha. Basically getting the most for less is the goal. Quality just falls away I guess.

  • it strongly depends on your personal choice. For some people just love macs and some people love PCs. And some people are not financially stable but they still need a computer to complete their work. They want to use a cheap computer to finish their work. Microsoft windows is full of viruses, errors and crashes but snow leopard has its flaws too, so in the end, it is all about personal choice. There isnt a need to place unjustified stereotypes on people with seemingly fixed characteristics.

  • right on man well said!

  • microsoft are evil

  • You are stupid. Very stupid.

  • How is this Mac Vs. PC. this just seems like Mac. I have watch all three and the only time PC is mentioned is when the Mac man is making a joke about, God forbid, having to defrag your HD.

and thumbs up to tobboh and ottovw!

  • the second person is great at selling lol

  • If macs would be as cheap as pcs everyone would buy them.. But than Apple would become like Windows and it would get crappy as hell. See, Windows is only so bad because they have much more users. And Apple has to be so good because else EVERYONE would buy Windows

  • Not true. There is still only ONE manufacturer of Macs. What plagues Windows is the staggering number of PC variants it has to run on. How many companies make PC processors, motherboards, video cards? Hundreds? Thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Another issue is that Apple has NEVER been shy about 'aging' off old machines. Snow leopard will NOT run on the older PPCs, it ONLY works on intel based macs. My old G4 will not run OSX 10.6.

  • Do i have to buy the mac version of microsoft word/power point etc or can i download the normal version on a mac??

  • You would have to install a new version, or you can install Microsoft in Boot camp and use the regular microsoft office

  • Even though I'm a Mac user, I can't stand all those idiots clapping and clapping and clapping... what a bunch of butt suckers!

  • So happy i just got a mac

  • ROFL, its $29 only if u have Leopard already...

  • we use pc because we are forced to...advertistments force us to believe pc is good..in a store there are like fifteen pcs and four macs...LOL

  • Yes everywhere you find a pc.

I'm a pc user from the year 1995, and i must to say that until 2007 that i build my own pc it was a hell. Buying pc's with low performance , what a hell, the worst operating systems of microsoft were windows me ,windows 2000 and windows vista 64bit, that was the top of the crap.

  • our presenters speak english, get further.

  • if you dont have a mac i feel sorry for you

  • @kiroo54 im sad for me too BUT i'm going to get one SOON!!!! lol

  • @kiroo54 Then you can buy one for me ! xD

  • @kiroo54 if you compare two the same expensive pc's. one's a mac and one's a windows pc

the windows pc will be about 5 times better ;) If you go for a mac you'll pay mainly for the shitty apple on the top.

seriously! it makes about half the price!

you have no clue of pc's and that's why everyone's feeling sorry for you

  • Its fucking awesome that Snow Leopard is only $29. So going to buy when I get the money. Little disappointed that the Jew Bear didn't make a showing at the end.

  • i love how everyone goes crazy when he takes the number 1 away from the price XD that was priceless!

  • I like how apple always stuns the audience at the end of their presentation.

  • Agreed

  • i love it when people are so happy when the prices go down... it just goes to show that they could have put the prices down to begin with

  • OMG, I have been PC forever. After 28 yrs of living I just got an iMac. ...... I wish I would have had this from the beginning. I still cant believe how many people still use the PC.

  • Im exactly the same - i just bought a Mac and they are so much better than PC's. The features and performance of Mac's are amazing!

  • Quad-core Mac pro baby, woo! insane speeds, would u agree "onceu go mac u aint going back" ?

  • lol

  • REALLY NICE o.o

  • If a Mac was as cheap as a "PC" they would rule the world, we would ALL use Mac =3 and everybody would be happy with their macs.. at least i would be xd

  • Yeah I agree with you if mac's were as cheap as a PC we would all buy it. We would really be happy if mac would do that. =))

  • it is getting cheaper and cheaper... 29$ for a system? what will windows 7 be for xD

  • Well that's an system upgrade price, im talking about the whole macbook price ^^ also it's even CHEAPER for recently bought macbooks, i heard you can get the upgrade for only 10$ :O

Aww if only macbooks where that cheap :( xD

  • i moved to the mac about six months ago, i wished that i did years ago. picked it up right away and this new software looks great...

  • Mac is cheap compared what you get with it. Out of the box, offers so much. Mostly piece of mind, they just work!

  • I hope Mac could be cheaper and then Apple will dominate the world.

  • i agree

  • 4:55 hahahahah

  • I am looking forward to it... but makeing fun of exchange coasting money and still charging a lot for mobile me... >_>

  • WHAHAHA the Frenchman is a pervert! :

    7:19

Very sneaky.. S3X is great!! (eerrrhh,,) SOOO...!

  • lmao, jajaja

  • so just "FREE" (3) things in Snow Leopard...

    funny excent

  • That guy sure does have a busy schedule...

  • This looks great. But I wish they would redesign the window appearance. The gray is kinda ugly. Windows 7 has a beautiful glass interface. I also like how Windows 7 has little animations when you open a window. It kinda, like, zooms into the window -- Same when you close. It's just eye candy, but it looks nice.

  • Really? I know how someone might think that the brushed alluminium look is a bit bland (have to say I'm a bit bored with Aqua on the whole, lost its wow effect for me), but to use on a day to day basis, all the transparencies in Vista and 7 just become distracting and annoying once you realise just how inconsistent it all is. I have 7 installed via boot camp and fusion, and I either keep Aero very dark (nearly opaque) or turn it off entirely. It doesnt help the end user at all in the end.

  • Quicklook Microsoft Office files? AWESOME! Amazing how Apple offers this but *MICROSOFT* Windows doesn't preview or open *MICROSOFT* Office files.

What's all this about Windows ME? The system had less than an 8th of the life time that 2K had (which support ends in 2010, July 13, testament to badass-ness MS can do if they put their minds to it.)

  • that french dude would totally kick ballmer's ass

  • He talks funny :)

Like the french dude in Mr Bean agent movie "Jonny English" XD

  • or inspector from the pink panther lol

  • Yeah right.

  • lol, the mac finally god cuda language, what next open dl? for open direct x?

  • It does look very nice.

  • my i should get snow leopard too and install it my pc

  • good luck with that one. Do you have an intel processor? Do you have all the technologies that make it run at 64 bit? Don't think so.

  • i have a corei7

  • Oh, those poor people who bought the "new" iMacs from 2007 :) they wont get to enjoy OpenCL.

many Mac Pro users won't neither. apple's response is "go buy a new one!".

  • As it turns out the 8800 GS in last year's iMac doesn't appear to be suported neither!

    haha. nice.

  • exactly.

i already saw on forums all the people who bought last year's model bitching about not being able to use 100% of Snow Leopard's features.

watch, emeek is going to defend this, telling you that you don't need OpenCL in your iMac anyway and that it's a good move to abandon people with last year's model so that everyone can "progress into future". thats how most Mac fanboys are defending this now on forums i found.

  • Nothing to do with Apple. The GPU doesn't have the correct hardware to make it work. I'd also love a specific link to where any employee at Apple said "go buy a new one!".

  • Oh and it probably will support the 8800GS. The 8800GS mobile is just a rebranded, beefed up 8600, which Open CL supports.

Take a look at Nvidia's Cuda, that only supports 8 series plus chips as well, doesn't even support ATI cards unlike OpenCL.

  • i hope so. i really hope that they will support it. and they better put it on their SL specs page somewhere.

  • it's apple's fault for using shit GPU's all this tme. they are the company who didnt want to abandon Combodrive on Mac mini until 2009!

yes. it has nothing to do with Apple. its not like they chose which GPU's to put inside, right? oh well. im not complaining. i just feel sorry for poor bastards who now feel like they were screwed over with their 1 year old systems. sure their iMacs will still work.. but not with 100% of features.

  • So are they coming out with new iMacs even though they just did like 3 months ago?

  • You answered your own question tbh :)

  • Hilarious, trying their best to incorporate Microsoft into their OS, dropping the price down of their OS for Leopard users only with Intel (forcing PPC owners to spend 1k for a new Mac just to use it), finally going 64bit, Microsoft has been there for a while, while other OSes have been there for years.

Funny how they did not even mention Opera web browser. Its obviously superior to IE8, Chrome, FF and Safari. I do believe most of Safari's features come from Opera.

  • Regarding this Dock discussion, you guys are seriously retards. Or wintards to be specific.

BTW now nobody can argue that Macs are expensive. $1199 for the 13" Macbook Pro. You can't find a single Windows PC on the market with that build quality for that price.

  • But you also have to give the Mac credit. It comes with great software like iLife. The battery usually lasts up to 3x longer, and the MacBook is on average a pound less. The chip is faster and the screen resolution is usually better.

You could get a stripped down PC for $700, but to get it performing to Mac's capabilities out of the box, it's going to be a lot more expensive.

  • I agree completely, this is where all the comparisons break down. In terms of notebooks, there simply isnt a combination of hardware and design alone (ignoring software here) that matches Apple's new Macbook Pro's in terms of Build quality and reliability. Factor in advantages with OS X and the price becomes easily worth it, there simply is no comparison. The same holds true and is even accentuated when comparing the Mac Pro with other Desktops and rigs (because its a workstation, not a desktop)

  • alt tab views a boring 2d icon of the apps, which is quick and easy, but you need to flick over the icon to see what it contains. - DickKnowsBest

Ok in Win 7 RC when you alt+tab and highlight the program the application is highlighted (shown) and all other opened windows go transparent. You can either use a mouse or scroll wheel with alt+tab to pick the icon. Win 7 may add a type of work spaces to it, after all they have it first before OSX did with PowerToys in WinXP.

  • I'm expecting a rub in my face about the price of OSX Snow Leopard from Eric. I don't doubt he will bring it up, so I'm prepared.

I'm like, that's good that it's being released before Win 7, gives them time to fix bugs and people to get an overall opinion about it before Win 7 steals it's thunder.

  • Windows 7 might as well steal OS Xs thunder, it stole everything else. LOLZ

  • Ill tell you one time I am a pc fan boy, but I must say i like how much snow leopard cost. 29$ is just amazing I definitly give apple props on that 5 starts. Windows looks like its going to be around 65$ for students( take the survey). So 29$ already beats hands down.

  • Hopefully Apple's pricing of the snow leopard upgrade will get Microsoft to price the vastly preferable Windows 7 upgrade similarly.

  • I hate most PC OEM's except for Asus and Lenovo, well Falcon Northwest would probably trump them both. Anyway, Dell can suck it, I've dealt with them to often. Their hardware is crap and their tech support blows. I just do custom built and my headache's are far less. I have a custom computer thats over 5 years old and another one even older, not one hardware problem from it.

  • My feeling is that they lowered the price so drastically in order for people to get people to totally switch to 64 bit. However, how is this going to work, is it only for leopard users or will people using Tiger and earlier be SOL paying full price. Can you do a fresh install with the SL upgrade without needing to install Leopard first?

  • I doubt there will be any machine checking or activation. Apple have shown that it trusts its users by not including serials, activation etc. Did you know that OS X Single user and multipack are identical other than the packaging, Apple just trusts you to buy the correct version.

  • Microsoft can not give their software out for free. its not a matter of trust, Microsoft loses tons of money from pirates. apple trusts its customers because they already took your damn wallet.

  • Well damn finally they get live previews and able to preview it within a folder without have to launch another application. Thanks for using that idea Apple, even though Windows did it first.

  • well, quicklook does support more formats than windows live preview. you have to give apple 1 point for that. Copying is what both do best.

  • I don't recall you being able to cycle through documents and watch films within Windows Explorer. Correct me if I'm wrong, which I probably am.

Besides we already had this with Leopard. Just hit the spacebar and it launches the document or movie in a Finder without launching the app. It's just now it also does it on the actual icon.

  • 29 dollars?

    Most expensive service pack ever

  • Last time I checked redoing a little of everything is not a service pack.

  • hey, accept my freind request.

i have to ask you something.

  • i did, it say's invited

i think i sent one awhile ago.

  • What about Windows 7?

  • yea, what about Windows 7? We've got it installed in RC version at my work and I can say its ok, but Snow Leopard blows it away. Sorry, Ive got a Mac at home..Ive seen, Ive heard, Ive used, Ive experienced, I like. I will run Windows in VMWare but never another windows PC. Once you have used Leopard you seriously will wonder what the hell you have been doing for the last god knows how many years. Im not being biased...its a fact.

  • Weird. I just switched from Snow Leopard to Windows 7 RC1 and am quite happy about it.

  • and what AV are you running?

  • I agree
