Thanks for uploading this. Doc was my Great Grandfather, Bud was my Grandfather. I never met Doc and I miss Bud "Papa" daily. Thanks again. Would love to see some more footage.
@TheSkillsy: It makes me feel good to hear one of Doc's own family appreciated the video. Thank you for your kind words. Someone else has a great video on YT you may enjoy. Check out the video titled "CKNX report on The End of CKNX and the rest of A News,..." If it isn't in the sidebar, you can find it by running a search for it. Thanks again and cheers!
I used to listen to CKNX radio when growing up but we watched CFPL TV mostly because it was clearer with the bunny ears. But once in a while we would tune the Barn Dance in. My Dad knew all the old barndancers like Rossie Mann and Ernie King - and told me we were related to Earl Heywood. I remember when Doc Cruikshank died, they broadcast his funeral service live over the radio.
Hey great video wish there was more cknx footage on we lost a dear friend yesterday, Murray Gaunt 1935-2009, wish we could see some old news with Bryan Allen and Don Fraser anf the Family Farmer with Murray Gaunt on here
Thank you for the kind comments. Murray was a familiar face at our lunch table back on the old Grey County farmstead. My condolences to his family and loved ones. He will be missed.
Yup, he co-hosted Morning Break and later FYI First Edition, which he eventually became producer of. He moved to radio in the 1990s and now works in sales for Astral Media.
I had no idea when I posted this last weekend, that CTV has plans to let CHWI and CKNX's broadcast licenses to lapse next summer. This is truly the end of an era.

@lotsofcases: Amazing story of the impact of Barn Dance. I understand Gordie Tapp was also related to Earl Heywood. Might you related to him, also?
toonguy85 1 year ago
@toonguy85 I think Gordie was related to the Heywood side, my relation was to Earl's mother's side.

At 3:07 - is that THE Jim Swan who was later on CFPL?
tvlondon 2 years ago
Yes, one and the same! I'm pretty sure he hosted a midday show on CFPL and became one of their key on-air personalities for a time.

I got most of these pics from an A-CHANNEL production called "Transitions".
toonguy85 3 years ago
Hmm, never heard of that production. And it had nothing from after 1977?
tvlondon 3 years ago
Yes, "Transitions" had CKNX clips from 1977, right up until it had become A-Channel.

Do you have any actual video from CKNX?
