  • how many people wished that that building collapsed on all those corrupt politicians?

  • @drakeneyez so true

  • I remember when the L.A. City Hall was the tallest building in the city. Most skyscrapers were 13 stories tall before the 1960s.

  • @Featureman I was in the 3rd grade at Hobart Blvd Elementary School's field trip to the city hall. In 1963, it was the tallest bldg in LA.

  • Those buildings are heavily retrofitted.

The building never came close to collapsing.

  • earthquake...earthquake! we got an earthquake...NO SHIT DUMBASS!

  • i was expecting and earthquake... lol that was boring

  • i just want to stand up on that crowd and yell WERE ALL GONNA DIE because that crowd looks ready to start running

  • please just like in the infamous ID4 movie...if its anything in the realms of a 4 pointer or less u dont even wake up !!!! :) trust me survivor of the GREAT 94 QUAKE

  • WTF!!! "Earthquake.. It's an EARTHQUAKE" LOL Common everyone calm down and continue debating on how Chuck Norris would look like wearing fish nets.

  • i live in pennsylvina so il never get to live through a earthquake my brother lives in california he goes to school at USC but some people act like its noting cause they prob lived threw many

  • Can I have the job of the guy who walks around shouting "Earthquake! There's an earthquake!"

Thanks Captain Obvious! I thought that was just the fat-ass walking by!

  • Well, given the fact the building has shock-absorbers, I doubt most people thought it was an earthquake to begin with. If it had no shock-absorbers, everyone would be screaming, getting under their tables, etc. because of the immense difference there is.

  • theres not even any skaing. look at the lights.

and that person just keeps saying "earthquake" "we got an earthquake" n00b

  • This quake lasted long enough to wake me, allow me to assess what was happening, go to my window, *and* shout across at my neighbors. I'm serious. But I live near LAX. i remember this one as being more of a rolling instead of violent jolts. Still, by no means fun.

  • I AINT NEVER GOING TO CALI!!! LOL!!

  • duh of course WE GOT AN EARTHQUAKE !!! now get OUT !!.. I was just finished taking a shower that night the earthquake happened, it was pretty strong, I had not felt a strong earthquake like that in a long time.

  • Love Mr. Obvious - "Earthquake, we have an earthquake! Earthquake.." No kidding!

  • Hahahaha! I was thinking the same thing!! "Here's your sign" (Jeff Foxworthy)

  • todays earthquake 5-17-09 8:39 5.0 was felt pretty strong, it flet like it came from the groud up it lasted about 10 sec.

  • they're like dumb.... I'd have run straigt away....

    were they glued up?

  • No, Hollywood is part of the City of Los Angeles. It is a district of LA

  • CITY OF LOS ANGELES 213!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This happened when I made hotel reservations in LA on line.

  • Uh... City Hall isn't in Hollywood. It's 30 minutes east in Downtown.

  • "earthquake!" "we have an earthquake!"

    Really?

    Honestly? We do?

Well thanks for mentioning something that no one else obviously figured out on there own

  • I heard that Rocky DelgaDillo hid under his desk like a big momma's boy! LOL

  • where i live things were fallin off my walls and it sounded like the wood in my homes walls were crackling i ran outside, lol it was the first earthquake that i actually felt and i almost shit my pants and was shiverin the rest of the day

  • i would advise that you get someone to check your homes structure. Search in yellowbook

  • From where i was it felt much more violent then that... I am in studio city...

  • I know it was a big earthquake but why does it seem like nothing is actually shaking or moving around in the video?

  • that building could crumble like a deck of cards no different than any other, by an earthquake.

  • yea... at least these fuckers have a strong building that was newly remodeled for earthquakes! unlike some of us who get the old ass apartment units that rip you off in price!

  • LOL, nobody moves... and these are city officials?

Oh God help us, we voted these people in. When the big one hits don't look for these people for answers casue they'll all be under a slab of concrete. I want my vote back dammit!

  • thank you for posting this video. this was so hilarious. the old lady laughing at the end sums it all up. "earthquake...earthquake...earthquake..." i hope saturday night live does a skit of this.

  • how long did the earthquake last?

  • 10 seconds or so lol i dont know

  • By the way I mean the biggest earthquake in Southern California in over a decade

  • earth quake, we got an earthquake. no fuck dumbshit.

  • i feel you..

that is a pretty dumbass announcement.

  • I love how in the last shot the meeting attendees could care less. They were much more concerned with the city raising their utility bills.

  • i felt it in summer school

  • DID HE SAY THAT YOUR "SAFE IN HEAR"

  • yes, and taking about how the building has shock absorbers.. It must have been earthquake retrofitted. :)

  • i didnt hear that the first time, had to listen again, i still would have ducked under something, concrete hurts:)

  • Forgot to mention he spelled California wrong.....only one 'l' there dude...relearn your geography and spelling skills...might come in handy someday

  • LOL!!!! The best reaction ever.

  • i think that it is god starting to split callifornia (left intentionally uncapitalized) away from sanity, and social norm, to drown it in the Atlantic. i hope. knowing callifornians they would just deny the earthquake like they do 9/11.

  • Boy, for being a retired lt. colonel you sure are a real dumb fu*k. CA is the social norn that the rest of you motherf**kers try to be and dress like. Jealousy, I suppose.

One more thing you dipsh*t, in order to drown in the atlantic, you must be in the atlantic. In case you havn't noticed??? CA is on the pacific side. Apparently all of your years in the Air Force were spent with your head up your arse!

  • Atlantic, Pacific they are all one giant body of water right? looks like i got you're blood boiling. makes me smile. i think you need more self discipline. oh and the only way i would ever go to california in in a has mat suit attached to oxygen from somewhere that has their head on straight.

  • they just sat there? not the smartest people in town are they

  • That quake wasn't shit! 5.4, COME ON PEOPLE, GETS SOME BALLS! Northridge quake was bigger and living in Cali you all should be use to that shit by now. Give me a break.

  • yes, totally agree. the thing to remember though is that this was really shallow, less than 8 miles.

  • it wasn't 5.4!!

they just say that so people won't get alarmed!it was actually 5.8!!the whole thing was on google !Also it was very strong and frighting okay!

  • It wasn't shit! 5.8 isn't shit either. Northridge was a stronger quake. No buildings fell, no bridges collapsed. You are just a coward. heheheheh

  • But the buildings were swaying very hard side to side espicially the upper floors caused more damage. Who cares about Northridge right now it's over. The news made a big deal about this one because it was the biggest earthquake since a decade ! And after their has been about 40 Aftershocks!Even today I felt an aftershock around noon Meaning a stronger one than Northridge is gonna occur soon So people are still scared and gettting prepared and I don't how this earthquake made me a coward?do you?

  • Yes Sk8dude, you are still a coward. They have been saying for decades that the big one is coming. They say it every time there is an earthquake no matter how big or small. Like I said before 5.8 ain't shit when Japan is dealing with quakes that are 8.0.

  • I didn't say if I still was I said how am I coward?Okay yea but this is California not Japan

  • oh yeah, well think about SOuth America, earthquakes also go up as 8.0 over there, and earthquakes happen all the time over there specially in Peru, you would not last a week there I am sure. Actually earthquakes happen all over the world and at anytime even when you sleep.

  • "Cali" is a city in Columbia. And we are used to it. If were here though, you'd piss your pants.

  • Dude, they r used to it (and most people in there r women so they can get balls but I know wat u mean) Everybody was just little worried of something bigger coming. And, something like this in LA would scare me to. Though I live in Winnemucca, Nevada and its calm here

  • i was with your mom and that shit was fun

  • I love how this happened while they were discussing hiking trash fees (again). GOD WILL GET THEM!

  • God doesn't exist.

  • your 16yrs of age if that's true, do you know what your saying, i am a true atheist, its difficult, im just telling ya, not trying to be a parent.

  • i was in my class room. i had this teacher who has this serious face and all that shit but when that earthquake happened he was funny as shit

  • "earthquake, earthquake" of course it's an earthquake! gosh!

  • i was outside getting my dogs water when tht started lol i ran into the street i wasnt thinking XD

  • Maybe like Sharon Stone said "its Karma" ummm what has the U.S done to deserve this .... um..... Karma, what goes around comes around.. right Sharon Stone???

  • OMG,I live in LA.A 5.4 earthquake is a scary ride (believe me),but I was about to make the same comment to that bitch Sharon Stone....That was a good one though =).I love your comment BFK56!!!!

  • :) thx

  • Its not a comment to scare people. Go to tge Usgs website and research it. San Francisco is the next target area. there is a very high chance that an M7 or greater will hit the city anytime within the next 30 years...could happen this year, in a couple years, who knows....but the Hayward fault is due to rupture again. last rupture was 1868 with a mag. 6.7... and its recurrence interval is 140 yrs. that takes it to 2008.

  • Couple of things to notice:

    1. Mr. Obvious yelling - "Earthquake, earthquake..." Duh!

    2. All the SO CAL people are sitting there as cool as a cucumber.

    3. People new to SO CAL want to flip out, but they're trying to be cool.

I have to admit, SO CAL building codes are great. I've been though a 7.2 back in the 90's and I saw my house do the weirdest things.

  • i was in ucla when it happened. My whole room shook and i knew it was an earthquake after my initial thought which was "am i high?". Eventually i realized that the entire building was shaking.

  • shit that was every scary i was sooooo scared i stated calling all my friends and family and the cool thing is (my friends said this):that it was on my birthday that is not cool Man

  • I was watching t.v. when the earthquake hit. At first I thought someone was shaking the chair I was sitting in, then I saw this stand that our stereo sits on moving back and forth.

The fact I was home alone scared me more, haha cause you never know when the big one is coming and the first thing I thought of was "what if this is the big one" :\ glad no one got hurt!

  • i felt everything shaking and it felt like i was at a Disneyland ride

  • lol hahaha

  • that was funny.... i was laughing when the quake hit i was a little scared

  • hahah this guy should get a job as an earthquake commentator.

  • Can you believe that most of the ppl that was outdoors at the time of the earthquake didn't feel anything, while I was at home holding everything that was falling down on me (especially books and picture frames)...Crazy.

  • voxpopuli071,

    life is very strange.

    i live in hollywood too.

  • why is there no shaking and panic???

  • a few years back, they installed shock absorbers under the city hall building. as for now panic, this is socal, we're used to this.

  • shootapple made a dmn comment to scare ppl :P

  • all these earthquake videos are gettin alot of views b/c of the quake 2day

  • LMAO

    Earthquake.....uh earthquake

    we are having an earthquake

  • How come nobody followed the earthquake safety rules?

  • That was scary especially when I was in class in the 3rd floor. :(

  • I know! I was in the 3rd floor too. I thought it was the air conditioner going out of control. But then I noticed it was a earthquake. SCARY!!!! =(

  • lol i freaked out wen it happend! my room was singing back and forth! and my winow was making alot of noise!

  • This one wasn't as strong as the northridge...I was around 4 or 5 when that one hit and that woke me up outta my sleep fast, but this one was pretty strong...it was like being on a shaky ride...I just hope their won't be the "BIG ONE" anytime soon...a few more years and then hit us lol...not right now...

  • they siad there a 90% chance that theres gonna be an 8.0 earthquake in los angeles in the next 5 years we are due an 8.0 is 100 times stronger than the quake in 94 which was a 7.0 scary crap

  • where did u hear that!?!?

  • dude where did you get that imformation from it cant be true

  • it is true, i heard them talking about it on the news

they've been talking about it for years now..

  • ok im ready for anything that comes next but we'll have to just wait and see what happens

  • i cant wait until the san andreas fault starts shaking!!!!!!!!

  • FUCK NO I LKIVE AROUND THERE

  • the lights were swaying a bit. the woman at the very end seemed quietly frightened.

  • Notice how NOTHING HAPPENS in this video? I've seen other documents of earthquakes. You know, the camera is shaking, people are falling, shit's falling down, etc. I'm going to go to a graveyard, and shoot it, then yell "earthquake... earthquake..." and send it out to all the news wires.

  • So has anybody witnessed any weird phenomenon going on before ,after or during the quake. Like colored clouds almost like the auroras near the poles? If so video that shit & post it!

  • this 5.4 quake wasn't big enough

but yeah usually there are some phenomena associated with very strong shaking, but usually its dust rising into the air from falling buildings, there are videos already on youtube regarding that

  • Yes I have seen them , but I'm looking for new video regarding todays earthquake with the above phenomenon mentioned. Not dust or falling buildings,... noctilucent clouds. Thx

  • I don't think anything of the sort would have happened with todays quake, cus like I said b4, it wasn't even that big. The water in my pool was swaying from side to side and my chandeliers were also rocking back and forth. I went out into the streets, nobody seemed to care. Nothing in the sky either.

I remember back in 1994, directly after the Northridge quake, there was an eerie glow in the night sky, I think it was due to the fact that all power had gone off,

  • lol felt it in ontario, ca. epicenter was 2 cities over from me (chino hills).

  • here in hollyweird, almost no impact.. a small shake, a flashlight fell off a shelf.. not even a hiccup. compared to '94, this was a snoozer

  • Well if this is anything like usual earthquakes, it will happen again and possibly only getting worse. Hope im wrong, and no i dont live in la myself thought, but same than what just happened in china..

  • I felt it. It was very strong. It felt like the earthquake came in waves (about 2). I was taking a nap when this happened

  • God it was freakin scary!!!I was in my living room and the roof started shaking first then the wallls then the floor .I was soo scared .Ha when I got outside peeople were running and panicking. But still scary stuff!they say it was 5.4 not 5.8 also phones don't work right now!no idea why.but still i'm shaking right now!my shelves came off braking my things :\ by the way its the one from July 29th 2008 11:42 a.m.

  • hope your okay man that shits really scary

  • "Nice thanks for posting this!"

  • Tells people not to panic but having someone shout out there's an earthquake in that tone makes anyone wanna run out of the building. He didn't even suggest to remain calm until someone else said it.

  • The Earthquake... I mean...

  • I felt that...
