Pelle was the closest thing to Bernie Parent I've seen since I started following hockey back in 1970. I feel that, with him in goal, the Flyers would have won the Cup that year and several more the following years. I'll never forget hearing the tragic news that day!!!
One good thing...a local guy that lived near me got Pelle's heart when the family decided to turn off life support. In his final act, he was able to save another life.
I was a pretty young kid when he died. I remember all the news about it. For some reason I thought he was a soccer goalie though. Not having cable back then this must have been a pretty big deal for me to have heard about it. Did they ever say why he crashed?
@mmmcoolv2 I just ordered it, I cannot wait for it to arrive!!! He will always be the template from which all goalies should be cut and one of my enduring hockey heroes.
Hex was nothing in comparison, actually. 2 very different goalies, and Pelle was simply on another level altogether. That's just the truth from an unbiased perspective.
@drewboy2 Hextall really only had 1 great year and that was his rookie year. Lindbergh was at a different level in 85. He was peaking right before his death.
