Lunar missions cost lots of money - money that they didn't want to spend after winning the politically influenced space race. They decided to put their efforts into the Space Shuttle - which was thought to be more cost effective (that failed miserably) and was designed with some military purposes in mind.

Thanks, if you look at the bottom left of the tower, it appears at first that the top of the moon goes through the tower. If you make the screen larger you can clearly see that this is a reflection of light from the surface of the moon onto the side of the tower. Nice!
