  • great review. Thank you!

  • Excelent review. Thank you for doing it. Ordering mine now.

  • I still might get one eventually regardless of the options I listed (which I would probably take before this one). XD

  • I was considering a Kabar+Becker knife awhile ago, but then I saw ESEE knives and from there I found Entrek USA. I believe knives that could compete with this would be the ESEE 5, same steel (1095) and blade thickness. The Entrek Elk, slightly longer blade, but this time in 440c, again, .25 inches thick. A slightly shorter Entrek would be the 11 Bravo which is also in 440c and a quarter inch. Each of these runs between like $115-$150 and with the Entreks you are getting a "stainless" steel.

  • @Jhraxlin for a bushcraft knife... you dont want stainless steel... how else are u gonna start fires with rocks with a hardness of greater then 7 ? and carbon steel is easier to sharpen and holds a edge better

  • @TheKodiak72 That depends on whether you have a fire starter kit, personally, I would want one. Also, depending on your steel, edge retention varies greatly (heat treat comes into play as well, which is why I only suggested stainless steels from Entrek USA)

  • Ive never owned a knife that was so beast, this thing is seriously thick. Its a sharpened crowbar. But I find it much too short for any choping. I would trust my life to this knifes strenght and edge retention in a survival situtation, but it is just too short for anything convienient. I prefer my BK7. While not as thick it is thick enough, it is very light but chops with alot of force, and if i was attacked by a bear id rather have this knife over a gun, the bk2 you might as well just throw it

  • Nice knife to bad it does not come with a rubber non slip type handle,? It would serve the outdoors much better for a wet hand grip etc.?

  • this vid --is the reason I own a bk2--friggin great knife--thank you sir.

  • 'survive in style' sounds like fun. that is a nice phrase.

  • can i get this in the uk ?????

  • outstanding knife.

  • It's called "campanion".

  • I agree. If I was defending myself, I'd love to have a KABAR heavy bowie or a CS Rajah II. For staying alive, nothing beats my BK2 as far as I'm concerned

  • I'm Buying one ASAP! You Are A Great Salesman!

  • I could not agree more about the hollow handle knife comment and these Becker's are some really rugged knives I've got the BK-9 and its one nice chunk of metal

  • Olean NY was horribly mispronounced

    {O LEE ANN}

  • Cutco and KA-BAR same company Olean NY, best knives anywhere,

    @connadrad

  • @connadrad

Do you pronounce New Orleans and Oregon like folks who live there do?

  • Great vid, thanks for posting!

I'm trying find a comparison video on YouTube with this Ka-Bar BK2 vs the Ka-Bar Peter Janda Fin... if anyone finds one please let me know.

    Thanks, much appreciated!

  • Looks like a great knife. Does it come with a better handle material?

  • I wanted hear more important info like....

What kind of metal was used?

What is the blade coated with?

How hard is it to sharpen? and how does it hold the edge?

  • @MarcViper carbon steel metal, its powder coated and as far as i have heard from other reviews its not hard to sharpen. Its one of the favorites for most people because of durability and price. I am looking into one myself, The information I gave you was all through other reviews

  • do you know how much an Esee 5 can be had for in america?

  • I was considering getting the bk7, but this video changed my mind. I think im going with the bk2 now

  • Looks like a very sturdy knife. One could get a lot of work out of it.

  • try cheaper than dirt they have great prices on everything and very quick shipping

  • I have one of these.. It is a MONSTER!!!!!

  • a really good review I must say

  • good review i wanted to buy it before, and now i definitely am. nice background to

  • I own a Ka-Bar Heavy Bowie, I have a Becker Necker on the way in the mail. And Now I am placing an order for the BK2 as well. Ka-Bar + Becker Knife & Tool = Magic.

  • I just ordered the BK7 but saw this video on "Bushcraft Knives For Sale" and the video sold me on the BK2! I hope it's not too late to swap...

  • Hey hear is an idea next time show what the knife can do ! Example, cutting test , show cutting edge moore and the angle in which it is ground . Show how it retains an edge after use . A knife reveiw should show what the knife can accomplish not just talk and wave it around . All things said not bad on reveiw !

  • excellent review! i got my knife today and i as well, know that i had made the right decision buying this knife when i took it out of the box. Im not looking to kill someone just survive, that's why i got the drop point bk2. Not to mention the end of the knife can be used as a pummel. Its made of great steel, it is highly tempered it wont break plain and simple. The handle is even made of a tempered plastic. Its not guaranteed not to break but it will last.

  • still have my Camillus bk7 love that knife!!!

beckers are a hell of a knife for the $

  • i just baught the bk2 and bk7 at the same time, my cold steel rajahs in the mail, and i still have 80xmas money left.

  • been looking for a good survival knife and your review pretty much sold me. Thanks for the great and helpful review!

  • I actually saw this knife on amazon and was think about purchasing it as well but still wasn't sure but thanks for making this video I'm definitley goin to get one that thing is a pry barAwesome, being a guy who loves the outdoors and loves to cook this knife is perfect Thanks cowboy

  • You don't want a knife that works well in the field to be used in the kitchen.

    Completely different concepts.

Its like saying its a good utility pickup truck and sports car.

And Tom Brown knives... I personally don't see it as any good.

  • @solobackpacking That's not true...there are knifes that are good at multiple tasks. Also, many people bring only one knife camping, and guess what? They need their knife to cut food, make kindling, cut cord, etc.

  • @PsychoSocialChange

You obviously have never done bushcraft/splitting wood/prepare food like fish.

    Ignorance combined with confidence.

  • @solobackpacking Ahhh ok... so you are somehow aware of my outdoor activities and capabilities now? Again, my point was that one often needs a knife for multiple purposes, including food. Ironically, you actually backed up my point with your lame rebuttal saying that one needs to do multiple tasks with their knife...

Also, somewhat ironically, is that this knife would obviously be a poor kitchen knife..anyone who knows the first thing about grinds could see that.

  • @PsychoSocialChange

I don't need a history of your outdoor activities.

Your ignorant words and your arrogant behavior is enough to indicate your lack of knowledge.

I am certain you are a loser in society.

  • @solobackpacking Cool story bro.

  • @PsychoSocialChange I agree he did kinda contradict himself and I also agree that you need a knife for multiple purposes because like HE said you would need it to cut fish as well as splitting wood.

  • Right on man, I agree completely about the bowie vs drop point thing.

  • while this seems to be a great knife, especially compared to the overpriced and overhyped esee knives, the thickness doesn't quite fit the length. yeah sure, you can baton with it, but you're lacking the reach of, say, a fallkniven a1, which is the same thickness but has a 1 inch longer blade. strangely all the longe becker knives are also thinner. of course the fallkniven is also stainless. so, instead of buying 2 bk-2, I'd just buy a single fallkniven a1 :D

  • @aseglkj ,mja..i have to say that you're right about the thickness vs length in the BK2.the ESEE5,strangely(same size)though ,i like much better.the tip of the blade has a much sharper point which is important in a knife(to me).the tip in my BK2,i just got it today ,is as blunt as it can be...

i like my RAT-5 and TAK 1 way better, much more handy.but the large knives are history for me.i have no use for them.5 inch is the limit.

  • @aseglkj ,the BK2 is a quite a bit more awkward than any of the ESEE or RAT knife i own.the handle also is very smooth.arrgh.well i can always sell it.but the ESEE5 i do like.much better handle etc.better balance.yes especially that.

  • @555Nato fucking nigger, it's you again!

well, the bk line is known for their shitty handles, but since they're removable, it shouldn't be too hard to make your own. but they're cheap and you can abuse them without worrying, use it for digging, etc.

I've considered esee, but I've heard from at least two people who own both esee and fallkniven that they prefer fallkniven. check out bushcraftknifereview on this site. which is why I ordered the fallkniven a1. which arrived today. fucking awesome.

  • @aseglkj ,nigger ?where?i am white as far as i can see %-P.yeah the Beckers do have slick awkward feeling handles.the BK2 has a tip comparable to a blunt cold chisel.the edge is sharp but a knife should have a relative sharp tip too.tough they are..I had the A1 .its a good knife.but I like my ESEE 5 and 4 a bit better.i like 1095 steel a bit more than stainless.i think they are also less prone to chipping.but Fällkniven are great knives..i might buy an S1 one of these days.nice size ,good grip.

  • @555Nato have you thought about grinding off a part of the spine near the front of the BK2 to make the point drop some more, or make it a bowie type clip point? I like a sharp tip, that's why I like my A1. Why did you get rid of it? BTW, you can buy micarta handles for the BK knives, the Ka-Bar code is BK77HNDL.

  • high carbon steel i hope?

  • @davism4a1 ,yep.no stainless steel in this little Hulk.

  • @555Nato yeah i looked em up and im ordering one asap, for what it is i would be willing to pay more than $60ish

  • @davism4a1 ,you made a good choice.the thing won't let you down.

  • @555Nato oh im sure, i ordered a sog trident in aus 8 i know not a bush knife but it does alright but im still very unpleased with aus 8

  • @davism4a1 ,i like the new version of theBK2 with the extended pommel.good for ramming stuff that needs to break :-).and the SOG Trident...is that the fixed blade or the folder?I have always liked the SOG fixed blades, and had a few like the SOG Seal Team and the SOG Seal2000.combat knives.now i'm more in a 4 to 5 inch blades, that size gives me better knife control .but still good for combat.take a smaller knife like the Mora.best grip of all knives and razor sharp.ESEE5,RAT5 TAK1.just love it

  • @555Nato folder, i bought it because i never owned an sog before, usualy im carrying a kershaw(for the price u cant beat the steel on any of em) the trident is ok it has put up with my abuse for a few months now it just doesnt keep an edge like i would like, and i was let down that their are no steel liners in the handle, but it is still sturdy, it would be a better self defense blade than anything, that is if u train your self to get it out of your damn pocket, i dont dig the flush carry clip

  • @davism4a1 ,the folder looked good but i never owned it.so i dont know for sure about it's quality.sharpening it with a diamond stone doesnt sharpen it either?yeah i know what you mean with getting it quick out of your pocket.my folders are always very deep hidden in my pocket.takes half an hour to get it out haha.so what..better not to fight and kill

  • @555Nato oh its sharp, it just doesnt stay sharp, i r profile almost every new blade i get to my angle, its ok just not what i thought it would be, maybe i just got a dud that wasnt forged right, its a good knife within its limits but not for what i paid for it, i could have stuck with kershaw

  • @davism4a1 ,mmm ok.some things you find out when you already spend the money..

  • @555Nato yep my next folder will be a zero tolerance talon i have been so anxious to try out zerotolerance since they are basicly beefed up kershaws

  • @davism4a1 ,the Talon looks like a wicked knife :-).sharp tip on it.that thing will cut and you can also stab uhhm cardboard with it ;-)

  • i want to get a rat7

  • Started wanting one of these recently and figured I'd wait on it for a couple of weeks and see if the desire would go away. It's been a bit longer than that and I still want this thing. :/ Video reviews just make it worse. :)

  • Your video made me want to by the bk2 in the first place and its been a blast!!! so by the way i make orange bk2 scales please check out my videos and let me know what you think and if you interested in some.

  • How strong are the "Grivory" handles? Should I invest in Ka-Bar's micarta replacements?

  • Oh, one more thing, its called CAMPanion, not COMPanion ( I think..). Thanks for making this really cool vid. I subscribed.

  • I disagree with your video description.

  • i love this knife

  • hey u know ur sh*t.......how sharp was this out of the box?

  • this knife looks like my dad

  • is that a single bevel, or has kabar added a secondary? have you ever made feathersticks with it?

  • is that a single bevel? 'sorry if that's a stupid question.

  • I use this blade at camp - it weighs a ton for its size and is built like a tank.

  • Gawd. The more I read/watch about this knife, the more I want it.

  • thats an awesome knife love the drop point knife feature

  • the advantage of the true bowie is that the point can be used to skin with, Especially if the falser edge is sharp

  • would you reccomend this over a rat 5?

  • I have the same question. This knife, the Rat RC-5, or the Ranger RD-4

  • @telekinetic13 ,the RC5/ESEE5 is in the same category as the BK-2,heavy duty knives.i had also the Ontario RD-4 but the handle is a little bit big ,flat and square.you gotta have no problem with that ,or it will be an issue.and the tip of the RD4 is more delicate than the ESEE5 or BK2.

  • Very nice video. This is a real survival knife and is exactly what one needs. Check out equip2endure's videos and he takes it out for hard use tests. He loves this. Also you can get micarta grips for this now. Also check mycornerstore for great prices in general. Well done.

  • I know you have a 80's survival knife in your closet. HA HA! great reviewer!

  • thats a great blade......... i think camilus is back in buisness........ i just received the smokey mountain catalog and they have some blades their and they claim to be back in buisness. i like small knives for survival too

  • @teyacapan Zombie Camillus ?!

  • @flashdamingo Thanks bro!

  • dude thanks so much!! i've been trying to find out what knife bear grylls uses in man vs wild. thanks! and great review... thinking about getting one too!!

  • how do you get more leverage with a shorter knife?

  • This is a sweet knife indeed. It felt right in my hands anyway. Great video.

  • I have 2 bk knives and got them through Tomars and yes they are cheaper in price so i say GO!!!!!! TOMARS

  • Oh, a piece of advice for purchasing this knife...Tomar's has it for $59. Don't buy it at Cabela's! They have it for $89.99. Trophy's Hunting Gear (.com) has it for $55.

  • Great review! Didn't get bored listening to your perspective.

  • This knife looks amazing.

  • this knife and the fallkniven h1 are my two top choices for survival but the kbars price beats them all for the most part

  • What do you think about the Ka-Bar USMC Knife? Because I was thinking about getting it. Its between this one and that one.

  • Why not get both?

The Ka-Bar USMC knife is a very nice knife indeed,I purchased one a while back had a hell of a time finding a canadian site who sells them but after i got it i was very impressed with it.I am now waiting on my Becker Companion BK-2 to come in the mail.looking forward to getting it and putting it to some hard use.

  • ... SOLD!...

  • Love this to bits mine arrived at my door today the moment i held it i was hooked! already in use and for the size it really does work and feel like a much bigger knife! gonna get another and upgrade it. Great Video helped me find the perfect knife! Thanks. :o)

  • Hey man I posted a video of my second generation Becker bk-2 if your interested

  • One should never pay over or even around 100.00 dollars. Check out TOMAR Knives and they have the best prices for Ka-Bar knives bar none.

  • it's campanion.... CAMP-anion...

  • Bear no longer endorses that bayley knife

  • great video review!!hey are you talk about Rob Baleys" Bear Grllys S4 knife that goes for $616 hahahaha?unreal i like the one you reviewed is better.I think your just paying for the name on the Bear Grllys Knife, which is sad because he will be collecting the royalties on every one sold. hes turning his name into a business and with his tv exposure and cashing in on it. capitalism at its finest. watch next hell come out with an outdoor survival clothing line / baggage line and

  • prices will be jacked up.

  • @monkeyboy8me bear grylls already has a clothing line the man is a con merchant, hes knife is good but way over priced,he should drop the price and then a lot of people would buy it.

  • @monkeyboy8me agree

  • @monkeyboy8me I don't think turning one's name into a business is a bad thing if the name deserves and lives up to its reputation. I'd buy bushcraft equipment with Ray Mears' name on it, and I do. I'd buy catfishing equipment with Phil Kat's name on it, and I do. I'd buy a guitar with Les Paul's name on it, and I do. I won't buy survival equipment with Bear's name on it. Period.

  • @monkeyboy8me If you check out gerber knives they now have a Bear Grylls branded knife for around $50 I believe maybe less.

  • @monkeyboy8me already has....

  • @monkeyboy8me dont forget the new gerber Bear grylls knife line

  • Do you think it's possible to rig it up with paracord to wear it scout style like a tracker sheath

  • which is better? bk2 or bk7

  • the bk2 is way sturdier and more versatile

  • Great review. 5 starz man.

  • the becker BK2 is an excellent woodchopper by the way.especially for its size.you cant go wrong with this tough one

  • If you want a Becker Kabar Knive check out Tomar Knives as they sell cheaper than Kabar and everyone else. I love my BK-7.

  • @masteroffajitas

Why not? His comparison is based on performance, not price.

  • Has he actually used a busse combat knife?

  • Unknown. But he didn't use this knife before he reviewed it either. He gave strong opinions without any use or testing. So this video is pretty much worthless. Other than you get to see it. These table top videos aren't worth much except show and tell only.

  • I agree. I see tabletop reviews usually on knives that have been used though. And this guys seems a little inexperienced with knives. This is should be an overview, not a review.

  • @masteroffajitas just shut the fuck up. u dont know shit

  • @masteroffajitas

Agreed. And the same goes for 'nutnfancy', but give nutn kudo's, he'll admit he's not the most knowledgeable per knives, but he does a thorough overview.

'Bluntruth4u' has some great reviews and practical applications.

  • cochiez,

No ! It's not based on performance because he had not used it or tested it prior to this video. He took it out of the box and came to all kind of conclusions that it could go head to head with a Busse without any use or testing.

  • @masteroffajitas u know nothing. it is an inexpensive busse. Its built like TANK but doesnt cost $500. Next time shut the fuck up TOOL

  • Please make more reviews!

P.S. Your son's a cutie. My opinion based on limited observation: Get him away from those screens and into a sandbox.

  • fuck u all

  • I don't know if anyone pointed it out or not, but this knife is not sold as The Companion. It's "The Campanion". Like, a companion for the camp, I guess. I know that everyone calls it the Companion, but that is just not the name of the knife. Never was. I'm sure Becker is thinking twice about such a dumb play on words considering that nobody seems to get it, but oh well. Great review. Better knife.

  • i think the handle is too smooth, and tends to slip easier than a textured handle, but this is a beast, there's no doubt.

  • the good thing about fixed blades is that you can make your own handles which is always cool and fun.

  • really? i never knew that

  • @3rogueS wrapping in 550 paracord is a popular, cheap modification you can try to your handle. you can get it for like $0.15 a yard. it'll add a bit of weight to a light knife, and the feel isn't for everyone. but a $0.15 experiment nonetheless.

  • I actually did a 'paracord' wrap on the BK2. I actually made a wrap that i have yet to see elsewhere, i made it ergonomic to fit my hand exactly, i used two widths of paracord. I'll have to upload a pic.

  • i'd like to see it. i've been wrapping my wal-mart christmast present knives in paracord to find a good way to do it to my real knives.

  • Comment removed

  • go to knife forums. com...search / advanced search / knife gallery / user 'locorogue' / 'paracord wrap'

  • i really like it. atleast the look of it. i haven't actually had any heavy use with a paracord handle, so i'm not sure how it functions for me yet. looking forward to seeing the other changes you make to it.

  • im going to add some custom slabs to beef up the grip under the paracord, then modify the paracord(just hollow out the bellies). Nothing like ruining your hand if you have to chop because the top spine is too thin. Anywho, thanks.

  • I agree that the handle is a bit too smooth.I have the BK2 and the BK7.but they just dont have that stickyness in the hand like the Ka-Bar kraton handle or Mora kraton handle has.that's a huge difference in grip.the blade themselves are wonderful though

  • Yeah the handle is slippery i wrapped it with friction tape, much better.

  • @angryjapanesenigga

Cool. I had many ideas of how to make this handle grip better, hope your way works for you. My wrap is doing great, great underwater now as well.

I love this knife, and obviously my only gripe was the slickness of the handle. Other than that, i think it's perhaps the best deal for a fixed blade, seeing as i paid $50.(steal)

  • @rogue, friction tape eventually shreds u have to rewrap it, also its kind of stupid looking. i use my shorpybar everyday as a prybar/hammer/screwdriver/hacksaw/axe/knife its really handy. just bought another one, everybody is sold out and i had to pay 80 bucks.

taping...mafia style, ha ha. or actually prison shank style.

  • Hi i'm seventeen and i will be "trying out" for marine corps recon either after college of after high school, i have always gone by the motto of Luck favors those who are prepared, I want a high quality knife that is relatively light and about the size of the bk2 do any of you have any suggestions??

  • if a long survival knife has a good, deep choil and some kind of thumb shelf it's not hard to do delicate choirs with; i have an RTAK2 that i carve snare triggers with regularly plus its got enough belly to skin with if you hold the blade right.

but i do agree about the need for a smaller knife for efficiency's sake. the fact that this blade is so thick and you can mount it for horizontal draw is whats going to make me get one.

    good review. 5stars,,

  • The Companion is currently advertised for $56.46 + shipping on Tomar knives web site. Tomar has probably the best prices for a new Becker series/KaBar Knives.

  • yes it's not usually needed to have a big knife, except in the tropics and rain forests, you need a machete

I would prefer to have that knife than that tops brown tracker,

well done for the review, absolutely well done

  • Just saw this sucker for $45 online. I think I'll pick one, what with you waxing enthusiastic :).

  • I really like that knife, I presonally think the knife most of us call bushcraft or survival knife is best suited for fighting, and the Ka-Bar BK2 Becker Companion is best for both

  • Isn't spelled "camp"anion?

  • yes

  • great review.and i totally agree on the idea that its not needed to carry a large blade for survival=living in nature.

  • hey man, nice review, lots of good info, thanks for putting in the time

  • Just bought one..

  • from where?

  • Amazon..

  • Is it a good knife?

  • @jaredbotha It has not come in yet..

  • serrations are not for sawing through wood. they are for ripping through fibrous materials. to saw through wood you would use a saw. this is a great survival knife, it's a lot like the brkt bravo 1. do some homework before you leave a sh*tty comment.
