Hurtado gave the P4P king a boxing lesson, on his own, without his family, his country, his people, his language. It's easy to say, but it is the biggest of blows to loose your brother or father and not be able to travel back to your country to see your family again.
Imagine how far he would have gone under different conditions.
Worst referee job since Benny Kid Paret v Griffith, Mercante Junior should have been barred for life and Beathoven Scotland would still be alive. Criminal referee who poses for the camera instead of refereeing. What a bum.

this match was fixed. hurtado vs delahoya would make no money. thats why u see whitaker losing until the last few seconds of the last round. boxing is the most crooked sport out there. its all about the money
u have alot 2 learn about boxing. cubans are considered the best boxers in the world and we have the gold medals 2 prove it. i really dont care what u say after this point
2 ENTIRELY different sports ? really ? come on buddy. go look at all of our great boxing videos on youtube. internationally we are known as the best your pros only compete here there are more foreign champions in american boxing than anything. what until castro falls and our best athletes are able 2 come over here. man are u guys gonna be in trouble !!!!
You have no idea what you're talking about. There are good Cuban pros, but amateur boxing is a farce and has been since 1988. Body shots don't count, pitty pat punchers matter just as much as hard shots, its ridiculous.
u.s.a is lucky that our best arent able 2 come here. did u see this whole fight ? this guy moped the shit out of whitaker but of course since nobody wants 2 see a nobody fight delahoya + it wouldnt make as much money on pay-per-view they had him lose in the last few seconds of the last round. boxing is the most crooked sport !! we also got the gold medal in your precious baseball 3 out of the last 4 olympics and more before that more than any country. im sure u got an excuse 4 that too right ???
yes i saw the whole fight and he was giving whitaker a boxing lesson and yes boxing is a crooked sport and it's sinking to the level of wrestling,i can say that cuz i'm a real boxing fan that knows the sport.for you to claim that "THEY" whoever the fuck they is had hurtado losing this fight after watching this fight you gotta be a complete moron...I'm sure you're a fool who knows nothing about boxing which is why you're bringing up baseball and olympics.who gives a shit ??
I love that fight. It's really the very first true boxing fight I saw, and how someone could not fall in love with boxing seeing this fight as his very first? :)
If Hurtado had a stronger chin he woulda beat Pernell and Kostya Tszyu, but he didn't and they beat him. And by the way I agree with you guys about this fight: Whitaker was surprising as an aggressive boxer.
However, Tszyu finished him with body punches. Hurtado made the mistake of fighting him about two weeks after a 10 round fight if I am right... So, he was more vulnerable for sure. His body did not fully recover for sure... ;)
Yep I had to put this one up I am surprised that it hasn't been up already. Many people call this one of his defining fights for all the reasons you state and the finish which Whitaker was not famed for but damn what a finish!!
Nice upload. One of Whitaker's defining moments, given how he was past his prime and getting outboxed for the majority of the fight, and he managed to come back and get the much needed KO to seal the win. A fighter never known for his power, fighting against his style, pressuring the bigger, harder hitter and KO'ing him when he needed it. That's what defines great fighters.

At least one reason to watch this fight is that this is the last fight that Pernell won in his career.

Amateur boxing and professional boxing are two entirely different sports and have been since the innovation of the current amateur scoring system.

I remember that fight hurtado was boxing his ass off and sweet p came close to losing then he came back and ko'd hurtado.

No way Hurtado could beat a whitaker in his prime, and as far as having a greater chin, Tszyu took him out with a body attack.
