I love very much this publicity because the music is so beautiful, amazing, strong and sublime, for me this song is sad but in same time is hope, sublime.
if you think about the phrase:
wouldn't it be a shame if birds never used their wings
Thanks, you just settled an argument between a couple of my friends. One was convinced the birds were real and the other was sure they were animated. I guess it's a compliment on how good your work is that someone can watch it very closely numerous times and still be convinced they're real.
True, like a miniature movie. Daniel Kleinman is a master at subliminal themes, did you notice the aerial view of the car doors opening like wings? Kleinman directs tv adverts for Smirnoff, Levi's; also music vids (Madonna, Fleetwood Mac) He styled the opening credits for the last five James Bond movies. Using a whistler for instrumentation here was brilliant, I think. As simple and beautiful as birdsong (and Whistlin' Tom's incredible, a 3 octave range with the purest tones I've ever heard)
Wow, I didn't know he'd worked on James Bond. I must admit, the music was the key thing that drew me into this advert. You're right about Whistlin Tom. His music is haunting, almost.
I didn't notice that aerial shot. The whole thing is wonderful.
ohmigosh - I just found another vid someone posted of Tom yesterday, a cut from a documentary he's in (Pucker Up: The Fine Art of Whistling) -- I can't get the thing to upload here, but the category is "People & Blogs" and the title is "Whistling Tom - Under Paris Skies" -- check it out!
Anyone with an interest in film will be interested in car adverts since they are one of the most expensive to produce. A lot of work goes into a car advert.
It's not about being sad. It's about being cultured =P
The road that this car drives along, is near where I used to live in Cornwall. On the final shot as the car drives off, in the distance you can see Polhawn Fort where I got married in May 07!!!
It certainly would be a shame if all birds were like Donald Duck, who never would fly though he was a bird and acted as if he wanted to. Kind of like some people, which seems to be the point of this ad.
It's a short version of "Under Paris Skies," performed by "Whistlin' Tom" -- the whole song (as on his CD) runs over 2 minutes. Check out his site w w w. whistlingtom. com
the best publicity for me!

Are the birds in this advert real or computer animated?

computer animated. by me in fact! and a great team at Framestore CFC, who just won the Oscar for the polar bears in Golden Compass.

:) it's the same with perfume adverts actually. You get as much post-production in a perfume or car advert as in an entire movie sometimes.

shame they never mention the person behind the advert, and yeah lots of subliminal messages about flight there.. like the areoplane in the glass. :D

Whistling Tom's music is lovely, evocative, and far more memorable than the vehicle.
