Thanks very much! Yes, I think a fretless is perfect for those styles as the bass has such a rounded tone in reggae/motown ... Disadvantages? Playing in a dark room where you can't see the neck of the bass and you've had a couple beer ... that's one! haha Pop and slap doesn't haven't the classic pop and slap tone with a fretless. If you're into that ... Other than that, really, once you're proficient on a fretless, anything goes IMO. Actually easier to imitate some songs without frets too IMO.
I didn't expect the bass is so versatile because many reviews described ATK's as something similar to MusicMan (always the same sharp sound). The neck is really big (42.5mm). It must be a huge difference in comparison with your Jazz Bass, isn't it?
yeah ... quite a difference! It is a bit harder to play than the jazz but I do like the tone and the active pup ... I used my fretless ATK (I have a fretted atk too) on this tune on purpose with the flatwounds cuz I thought that would better emulate the reggae tone. The ATK fretted DOES have a sharp tone but ya know, with a little processor (like my pandora) you can change the tone a lot.
Carl ... did you say a great Jamaican Bong on there? Oh ... song! haha ... the song on the Elton album is called Jamaican Jerk Off ... what's up with that?! :)
:) Definitely a classic E.J. album, before he came out of the closet wasn't it?? :P Been a long time so I found a sample online of Jamaican Jerk Off ... really more Ska than Reggae I thought, but anyway ... good tune ... :D
thanks man, Costa Rica sounds nice ... my brother spent a winter there about 10 years ago.

I saw some awful videos of people playing fretless bass,
but your playing is far better and sounds Awesome, I gave you 5-stars!
Do you think it's possible to use a fretless for Reggae/Motown/Jamerson style stuff?
You've really convinced me I should start playing a fretless now.
What do you think the DISadvantages are for using a fretless bass?
