If you can replace the capacitors in things before they die, they may not get the chance to damage down-stream electronic components. Once you replace the caps with good quality caps, (Rubicon or Nichicon), you're usually all good. Resistors can die also, but that's more rare.
I have a 86 735i vert, everything is good until I reach about 3800 rpm's then the engine has a power loss and fire. I have checked the fuel pressure regulator, the full throttle switch the mass air flow sensor crankshaft sensor ,coil spark plug, coil wire, distiboters, no luck so far, any ideas on what I should do next....rep me please thxxx
wow that's got a lot of features I'm not used to having on a car like heated washer fluid and a seperate heater pump. man great work! it's always good to have a friend who knows what he's doing help you!
thx man, it was a bit time consuming, but by no means hard. its sorta like a computer, theirs only one way to plug most bits back in!, wiring and hoses alike!
the only way I could see it going wrong is on basic things like fuel hoses being swapped around or battery terminals reversed. its all plug-and-play after that,
This video was more detailed than Jag's. Both are equally cool. My buddy doesn't even video his work, but he is easily much more attentive to detail than I am. He's an auto mechanic. I use a tape measure... he uses a micrometer.
good find, i didnt think you would find an engine for that so quickly..at least around here in this area of the states there arent many bmws around to get parts from, looks like a pretty clean engine pull too, if it was me and my curse i would have ended up pulling the engine and the torque converter would fall out of the transmission and pour a couple quarts out until i can get under it and flip it upright (or the driveshaft plug would slip out if pulling both together)
lol yeah, I was surprised by the availablilty of the replacement engine!
the torque converter can be a pain, just gotta get a 1/2" gap between the bellhousing and pry it back into the tranny with screwdrivers as the engine comes out.
At 2:07 good background music :)

Nice engine.
I had 2.0 in my e30 for one year..than i swaped in 2.8(for week) and finaly i got the same 3.5 and I am satisfied. For that money can't be better ;)

yeah I got a BM E30 323 that has a bad engine, I love the way we can fit the 3.5L engine to them :D
Very affordable and strong engines the M30's are!

What about a chevy swap V8 mate
BimmerM5e39 2 years ago
If I do eventually put a improved engine in I will consider a V8 conversion, but i'm not sure how the on-board electronics will like a Chevy V8.
I still have the short block that we pulled out, I may just put upgraded internals and high comp head on it.

@BimmerM5e39 Fuck Chevy V8, what kinda BMW fan are u?

It is fun bringing new life to a car with a genitally used engine.

yeah, this engine is great now. still need to do the tappets and exhaust but she runs well and pulls hard!.

Just don't forget to go through the EMS reset procedure for the new engine.

I did the battery drain reset procedure (bringing the leads together for 1 hr with no battery) but I'm not sure of any otehr

Its very lucky it broke where it did!
the BMW 7 series has always been packed with strange features, some I'll never use like heated door locks for icy climates.
Aussie50 2 years ago
I could at least use a remote starter/heater control so I don't have to scrape my windows in the morning :P
coolbluelights 2 years ago
yeah!, we get some nasty frosty mornings here, not as bad as your snowy winters though. reote start and heater contol would be great

Great vid mate ;)..looks like a P*%$ of a job the BMW engines lol...i thought changing a Holden motor over was bad enough :P
